Matthew 15:1 | Then Pharisees and scribes come to Jesus from Jerusalem, saying, | Then came to him from Jerusalem scribes and Pharisees, saying: | Then the scribes and Pharisees from Jerusalem come up to Jesus, saying, |
Matthew 15:2 | "Why do your disciples disobey the tradition of the elders? For they don't wash their hands when they eat bread." | Why do thy disciples trangress the tradition of the ancients? For they wash not their hands when they eat bread. | Why do thy disciples transgress what has been delivered by the ancients? for they do not wash their hands when they eat bread. |
Matthew 15:3 | He answered them, "Why do you also disobey the commandment of God because of your tradition? | But he answering, said to them: Why do you also transgress the commandment of God for your tradition? For God said: | But he answering said to them, Why do *ye* also transgress the commandment of God on account of your traditional teaching? |
Matthew 15:4 | For God commanded, 'Honor your father and your mother,' and, 'He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.' | Honour thy father and mother: And: He that shall curse father or mother, let him die the death. | For God commanded saying, Honour father and mother; and, He that speaks ill of father or mother, let him die the death. |
Matthew 15:5 | But you say, 'Whoever will tell his father or his mother, "Whatever help you might otherwise have gotten from me is a gift devoted to God," | But you say: Whosoever shall say to father or mother, The gift whatsoever proceedeth from me, shall profit thee. | But *ye* say, Whosoever shall say to his father or mother, It is a gift, whatsoever [it be] by which [received] from me thou wouldest be profited: |
Matthew 15:6 | he will not honor his father or mother.' You have made the commandment of God void because of your tradition. | And he shall not honour his father or his mother: and you have made void the commandment of God for your tradition. | and he shall in no wise honour his father or his mother; and ye have made void the commandment of God on account of your traditional teaching. |
Matthew 15:7 | You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, | Hypocrites, well hath Isaias prophesied of you, saying: | Hypocrites! well has Esaias prophesied about you, saying, |
Matthew 15:8 | 'These people draw near to me with their mouth, And honor me with their lips; But their heart is far from me. | This people honoureth me with their lips: but their heart is far from me. | This people honour me with the lips, but their heart is far away from me; |
Matthew 15:9 | But in vain do they worship me, Teaching as doctrine rules made by men.'" | And in vain do they worship me, teaching doctrines and commandments of men. | but in vain do they worship me, teaching [as] teachings commandments of men. |
Matthew 15:10 | He called the multitude to himself, and said to them, "Hear, and understand. | And having called together the multitudes unto him, he said to them: Hear ye and understand. | And having called to [him] the crowd, he said to them, Hear and understand: |
Matthew 15:11 | That which enters into the mouth doesn't defile the man; but that which proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man." | Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man: but what cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. | Not what enters into the mouth defiles the man; but what goes forth out of the mouth, this defiles the man. |
Matthew 15:12 | Then the disciples came, and said to him, "Do you know that the Pharisees were offended, when they heard this saying?" | Then came his disciples, and said to him: Dost thou know that the Pharisees, when they heard this word, were scandalized? | Then his disciples, coming up, said to him, Dost thou know that the Pharisees, having heard this word, have been offended? |
Matthew 15:13 | But he answered, "Every plant which my heavenly Father didn't plant will be uprooted. | But he answering them, said: Every plant which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. | But he answering said, Every plant which my heavenly Father has not planted shall be rooted up. |
Matthew 15:14 | Let them alone. They are blind guides of the blind. If the blind guide the blind, both will fall into a pit." | Let them alone: they are blind, and leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into the pit. | Leave them alone; they are blind leaders of blind: but if blind lead blind, both will fall into a ditch. |
Matthew 15:15 | Peter answered him, "Explain the parable to us." | And Peter answering, said to him: Expound to us this parable. | And Peter answering said to him, Expound to us this parable. |
Matthew 15:16 | So Jesus said, "Do you also still not understand? | But he said: Are you also yet without understanding? | But he said, Are *ye* also still without intelligence? |
Matthew 15:17 | Don't you understand that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the belly, and then out of the body? | Do you not understand, that whatsoever entereth into the mouth, goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the privy? | Do ye not yet apprehend, that everything that enters into the mouth finds its way into the belly, and is cast forth into the draught? |
Matthew 15:18 | But the things which proceed out of the mouth come forth out of the heart, and they defile the man. | But the things which proceed out of the mouth, come forth from the heart, and those things defile a man. | but the things which go forth out of the mouth come out of the heart, and those defile man. |
Matthew 15:19 | For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual sins, thefts, false testimony, and blasphemies. | For from the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false testimonies, blasphemies. | For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witnessings, blasphemies; |
Matthew 15:20 | These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands doesn't defile the man." | These are the things that defile a man. But to eat with unwashed hands doth not defile a man. | these are the things which defile man; but the eating with unwashen hands does not defile man. |
Matthew 15:21 | Jesus went out from there, and withdrew into the parts of Tyre and Sidon. | And Jesus went from thence, and retired into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon. | And Jesus, going forth from thence, went away into the parts of Tyre and Sidon; |
Matthew 15:22 | Behold, a Canaanite woman came out from those borders, and cried, saying, "Have mercy on me, Lord, you son of David. My daughter is grievously vexed with a demon." | And behold a woman of Canaan who came out of those coasts, crying out, said to him: Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David: my daughter is grieviously troubled by the devil. | and lo, a Canaanitish woman, coming out from those borders, cried [to him] saying, Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is miserably possessed by a demon. |
Matthew 15:23 | But he answered her not a word. His disciples came and begged him, saying, "Send her away; for she cries after us." | Who answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying: Send her away, for she crieth after us: | But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came to [him] and asked him, saying, Dismiss her, for she cries after us. |
Matthew 15:24 | But he answered, "I wasn't sent to anyone but the lost sheep of the house of Israel." | And he answering, said: I was not sent but to the sheep that are lost of the house of Israel. | But he answering said, I have not been sent save to the lost sheep of Israel's house. |
Matthew 15:25 | But she came and worshipped him, saying, "Lord, help me." | But she came and adored him, saying: Lord, help me. | But she came and did him homage, saying, Lord, help me. |
Matthew 15:26 | But he answered, "It is not appropriate to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." | Who answering, said: It is not good to take the bread of the children, and to cast it to the dogs. | But he answering said, It is not well to take the bread of the children and cast it to the dogs. |
Matthew 15:27 | But she said, "Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters' table." | But she said: Yea, Lord; for the whelps also eat of the crumbs that fall from the table of their masters. | But she said, Yea, Lord; for even the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from the table of their masters. |
Matthew 15:28 | Then Jesus answered her, "Woman, great is your faith! Be it done to you even as you desire." And her daughter was healed from that hour. | Then Jesus answering, said to her: O woman, great is thy faith: be it done to thee as thou wilt: and her daughter was cured from that hour. | Then Jesus answering said to her, O woman, thy faith [is] great. Be it to thee as thou desirest. And her daughter was healed from *that* hour. |
Matthew 15:29 | Jesus departed there, and came near to the sea of Galilee; and he went up into the mountain, and sat there. | And when Jesus had passed away from thence, he came nigh the sea of Galilee. And going up into a mountain, he sat there. | And Jesus, going away from thence, came towards the sea of Galilee, and he went up into the mountain and sat down there; |
Matthew 15:30 | There came to him great multitudes, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others, and they put them down at his feet. He healed them, | And there came to him great multitudes, having with them the dumb, the blind, the lame, the maimed, and many others: and they cast them down at his feet, and he healed them: | and great crowds came to him, having with them lame, blind, dumb, crippled, and many others, and they cast them at his feet, and he healed them: |
Matthew 15:31 | so that the multitude wondered, when they saw the mute speaking, the injured whole, lame walking, and the blind seeing and they glorified the God of Israel. | So that the multitudes marvelled seeing the dumb speak, the lame walk, and the blind see: and they glorified the God of Israel. | so that the crowds wondered, seeing dumb speaking, crippled sound, lame walking, and blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel. |
Matthew 15:32 | Jesus called his disciples to him, and said, "I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days and have nothing to eat. I don't want to send them away fasting, or they might faint on the way." | And Jesus called together his disciples, and said: I have compassion on the multitudes, because they continue with me now three days, and have not what to eat, and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way. | But Jesus, having called his disciples to [him], said, I have compassion on the crowd, because they have stayed with me already three days and they have not anything they can eat, and I would not send them away fasting lest they should faint on the way. |
Matthew 15:33 | The disciples said to him, "Where should we get so many loaves in a desert place as to fill so great a multitude?" | And the disciples say unto him: Whence then should we have so many loaves in the desert, as to fill so great a multitude? | And his disciples say to him, Whence should we have so many loaves in [the] wilderness as to satisfy so great a crowd? |
Matthew 15:34 | Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?" They said, "Seven, and a few small fish." | And Jesus said to them: How many loaves have you? But they said: Seven, and a few little fishes. | And Jesus says to them, How many loaves have ye? But they said, Seven, and a few small fishes. |
Matthew 15:35 | He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground; | And he commanded the multitude to sit down upon the ground. | And he commanded the crowds to lie down on the ground; |
Matthew 15:36 | and he took the seven loaves and the fish. He gave thanks and broke them, and gave to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes. | And taking the seven loaves and the fishes, and giving thanks, he brake, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the people. | and having taken the seven loaves and the fishes, having given thanks, he broke [them] and gave [them] to his disciples, and the disciples to the crowd. |
Matthew 15:37 | They all ate, and were filled. They took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces that were left over. | And they did all eat, and had their fill.
