Genesis 40:1It happened after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker offended their lord, the king of Egypt.And it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker offended their lord the king of Egypt.
Genesis 40:2Pharaoh was angry against his two officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.And Pharaoh was wroth against his two officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.
Genesis 40:3He put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.
Genesis 40:4The captain of the guard assigned them to Joseph, and he took care of them. They stayed in prison many days.And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he ministered unto them: and they continued a season in ward.
Genesis 40:5They both dreamed a dream, each man his dream, in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were bound in the prison.And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream, in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were bound in the prison.
Genesis 40:6Joseph came in to them in the morning, and saw them, and, saw that they were sad.And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and saw them, and, behold, they were sad.
Genesis 40:7He asked Pharaoh's officers who were with him in custody in his master's house, saying, "Why do you look so sad today?"And he asked Pharaoh's officers that were with him in ward in his master's house, saying, Wherefore look ye so sad to-day?
Genesis 40:8They said to him, "We have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it." Joseph said to them, "Don't interpretations belong to God? Please tell it to me."And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell it me, I pray you.
Genesis 40:9The chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, "In my dream, behold, a vine was in front of me,And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;
Genesis 40:10and in the vine were three branches. It was as though it budded, its blossoms shot forth, and the clusters of it brought forth ripe grapes.and in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, [and] its blossoms shot forth; [and] the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes:
Genesis 40:11Pharaoh's cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand."and Pharaoh's cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand.
Genesis 40:12Joseph said to him, "This is the interpretation of it: the three branches are three days.And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: the three branches are three days;
Genesis 40:13Within three more days, Pharaoh will lift up your head, and restore you to your office. You will give Pharaoh's cup into his hand, the way you did when you were his butler.within yet three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head, and restore thee unto thine office: and thou shalt give Pharaoh's cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler.
Genesis 40:14But remember me when it will be well with you, and show kindness, please, to me, and make mention of me to Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house.But have me in thy remembrance when it shall be well with thee, and show kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:
Genesis 40:15For indeed, I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews, and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon."for indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.
Genesis 40:16When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said to Joseph, "I also was in my dream, and, behold, three baskets of white bread were on my head.When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, three baskets of white bread were on my head:
Genesis 40:17In the uppermost basket there was of all kinds of baked food for Pharaoh, and the birds ate them out of the basket on my head."and in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of baked food for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head.
Genesis 40:18Joseph answered, "This is the interpretation of it. The three baskets are three days.And Joseph answered and said, This is the interpretation thereof: the three baskets are three days;
Genesis 40:19Within three more days, Pharaoh will lift up your head from off you, and will hang you on a tree; and the birds will eat your flesh from off you."within yet three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds shall eat thy flesh from off thee.
Genesis 40:20It happened the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast for all his servants, and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and the head of the chief baker among his servants.And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and the head of the chief baker among his servants.
Genesis 40:21He restored the chief butler to his butlership again, and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand;And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand:
Genesis 40:22but he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them.but he hanged the chief baker: as Joseph had interpreted to them.
Genesis 40:23Yet the chief butler didn't remember Joseph, but forgot him.Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgat him.
