Mark 13:1 | As he went forth out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, "Teacher, see what kind of stones and what kind of buildings!" | As He was leaving the Temple, one of His disciples exclaimed, "Look, Rabbi, what wonderful stones! what wonderful buildings!" | And when he was going out of the Temple, one of his disciples said to him, Master, see, what stones and what buildings! |
Mark 13:2 | Jesus said to him, "Do you see these great buildings? There will not be left here one stone on another, which will not be thrown down." | "You see all these great buildings?" Jesus replied; "not one stone will be left here upon another not thrown down." | And Jesus said to him, Do you see these great buildings? there is not one stone here resting on another which will not be overturned. |
Mark 13:3 | As he sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked him privately, | He was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite to the Temple, when Peter, James, John, and Andrew, apart from the others asked Him, | And while he was seated on the Mountain of Olives opposite the Temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew said to him privately, |
Mark 13:4 | "Tell us, when will these things be? What is the sign that these things are all about to be accomplished?" | "Tell us, When will these things be? and what will be the sign when all these predictions are on the point of being fulfilled?" | Say when these things will be, and what will be the sign when these things are all about to be done. |
Mark 13:5 | Jesus, answering, began to tell them, "Be careful that no one leads you astray. | So Jesus began to say to them: "Take care that no one misleads you. | And Jesus said to them, Take care that you are not tricked by anyone. |
Mark 13:6 | For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he!' and will lead many astray. | Many will come assuming my name and saying, `I am He;' and they will mislead many. | People will come in my name, saying, I am he; and a number will be turned from the true way. |
Mark 13:7 | When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, don't be troubled. For those must happen, but the end is not yet. | But when you hear of wars and rumours of wars, do not be alarmed: come they must, but the End is not yet. | And when you have news of wars and talk of wars, do not be troubled; these things have to be, but it is still not the end. |
Mark 13:8 | For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places. There will be famines and troubles. These things are the beginning of birth pains. | For nation will rise in arms against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. These miseries are but like the early pains of childbirth. | Nation will go to war with nation, and kingdom with kingdom: there will be earth-shocks in different places; there will be times when there is no food; these things are the first of the troubles. |
Mark 13:9 | But watch yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils. You will be beaten in synagogues. Before governors and kings will you stand for my sake, for a testimony to them. | "You yourselves must be on your guard. They will deliver you up to Sanhedrins; you will be brought into synagogues and cruelly beaten; and you will stand before governors and kings for my sake, to be witnesses to them for me. | But take care: for they will give you up to the Sanhedrins; and in Synagogues you will be whipped; and you will be taken before rulers and kings because of me, for a sign to them. |
Mark 13:10 | The gospel must first be preached to all the nations. | But the proclamation of the Good News must be carried to all the Gentiles before the End comes. | And the good news has first to be given to all the nations. |
Mark 13:11 | When they lead you away and deliver you up, don't be anxious beforehand, or premeditate what you will say, but say whatever will be given you in that hour. For it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. | When however they are marching you along under arrest, do not be anxious beforehand about what you are to say, but speak what is given you when the time comes; for it will not be you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. | And when you are taken and given up to be judged, do not be troubled about what to say: but whatever is given to you in that hour, say: because it is not you who say it, but the Holy Spirit. |
Mark 13:12 | "Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child. Children will rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death. | "Brother will betray brother to be killed, and fathers will betray children; and children will rise against their parents and have them put to death. | And brother will give up brother to death, and the father his child; and children will go against their fathers and mothers, and put them to death. |
Mark 13:13 | You will be hated by all men for my name's sake, but he who endures to the end, the same will be saved. | You will be objects of universal hatred because you are called by my name, but those who stand firm to the End will be saved. | And you will be hated by all men, because of my name; but he who goes through to the end will have salvation. |
Mark 13:14 | But when you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, | "As soon, however, as you see the Abomination of Desolation standing where he ought not" let the reader observe these words "then let those in Judaea escape to the hills; | But when you see the unclean thing which makes destruction, in the place where it has no right to be (let this be clear to the reader), then let those who are in Judaea go quickly to the mountains: |
Mark 13:15 | and let him who is on the housetop not go down, nor enter in, to take anything out of his house. | let him who is on the roof not come down and enter the house to fetch anything out of it; | And let him who is on the house-top not go down, or go in, to take anything out of his house: |
Mark 13:16 | Let him who is in the field not return back to take his cloak. | and let not him who is in the field turn back to pick up his outer garment. | And let not him who is in the field go back to take his coat. |
Mark 13:17 | But woe to those who are with child and to those who nurse babies in those days! | And alas for the women who at that time are with child or have infants! | And it will be hard for women who are with child and for her who has a baby at the breast in those days. |
Mark 13:18 | Pray that your flight won't be in the winter. | "But pray that it may not come in the winter. | And say a prayer that it may not be in the winter. |
Mark 13:19 | For in those days there will be oppression, such as there has not been the like from the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will be. | For those will be times of suffering the like of which has never been from the first creation of God's world until now, and assuredly never will be again; | For in those days there will be sorrow, such as there has not been from the time when God made the world till now, and will not ever be again. |
Mark 13:20 | Unless the Lord had shortened the days, no flesh would have been saved; but for the elect's sake, whom he chose, he shortened the days. | and but for the fact that the Lord has cut short those days, no one would escape; but for the sake of His own People whom He has chosen for Himself He has cut short the days. | And if the Lord had not made the time short, no flesh would have been kept from destruction; but because of the saints he has made the time short. |
Mark 13:21 | Then if anyone tells you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'Look, there!' don't believe it. | "At that time if any one says to you, `See, here is the Christ!' or `See, He is there!' do not believe it. | And then if any man says to you, See, here is Christ; or, See, there; have no faith in it: |
Mark 13:22 | For there will arise false christs and false prophets, and will show signs and wonders, that they may lead astray, if possible, also the elect. | For there will rise up false Christs and false prophets, displaying signs and prodigies with a view to lead astray if indeed that were possible even God's own People. | Because there will be false Christs and false prophets, and they will give signs and wonders in the hope of turning even the saints from the true way. |
Mark 13:23 | But you watch. "Behold, I have told you all things beforehand. | But as for yourselves, be on your guard: I have forewarned you of everything. | But take care; see, I have made all things clear to you before the time. |
Mark 13:24 | But in those days, after that oppression, the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give her light, | "At that time, however, after that distress, the sun will be darkened and the moon will not shed her light; | But in those days, after that time of trouble, the sun will be made dark and the moon will not give her light, |
Mark 13:25 | the stars will be falling from the sky, and the powers that are in the heavens will be shaken. | the stars will be seen falling from the firmament, and the forces which are in the heavens will be disordered and disturbed. | And the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers which are in the heavens will be moved. |
Mark 13:26 | Then will they see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. | And then will they see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. | And then they will see the Son of man coming in clouds with great power and glory. |
Mark 13:27 | Then will he send forth his angels, and will gather together his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the sky. | Then He will send forth the angels and gather together His chosen People from north, south, east and west, from the remotest parts of the earth and the sky. | And then he will send out the angels, and will get together his saints from the four winds, from the farthest part of the earth to the farthest part of heaven. |
Mark 13:28 | "Now from the fig tree, learn this parable. When the branch has now become tender, and puts forth its leaves, you know that the summer is near; | "Learn from the fig-tree the lesson it teaches. As soon as its branch has become soft and it is bursting into leaf, you know that summer is near. | Take an example from the fig-tree: when its branches become soft and put out their leaves, you see that the summer is near; |
Mark 13:29 | even so you also, when you see these things coming to pass, know that it is near, at the doors. | So also do you, when you see these things happening, be sure that He is near, at your very door. | Even so, when you see these things taking place, you may be certain that he is near, even at the doors. |
Mark 13:30 | Most assuredly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things are accomplished. | I tell you in solemn truth that the present generation will certainly not pass away without all these things having first taken place. | Truly, I say to you, This generation will not come to an end till all these things are complete. |
Mark 13:31 | Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. | Earth and sky will pass away, but it is certain that my words will not pass away. | Heaven and earth will come to an end, but my words will not come to an end. |
Mark 13:32 | But of that day or that hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, neither the Son, but only the Father. | "But as to that day or the exact time no one knows not even the angels in Heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. | But of that day or that hour no one has knowledge, not even the angels in heaven, or the Son, but the Father. |
Mark 13:33 | Watch, keep alert, and pray; for you don't know when the time is. | Take care, be on the alert, and pray; for you do not know when it will happen. | Take care, keep watch with prayer: for you are not certain when the time will be. |
Mark 13:34 | "It is like a man, traveling to another country, having left his house, and given authority to his servants, and to each one his work, and also commanded the doorkeeper to keep watch. | It is like a man living abroad who has left his house, and given the management to his servants to each one his special duty and has ordered the porter to keep awake. | It is as when a man who is in another country for a time, having gone away from his house, and given authority to his servants and to everyone his work, gives the porter an order to keep watch. |
Mark 13:35 | Watch therefore, for you don't know when the lord of the house is coming, whether at evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning; | Be wakeful therefore, for you know not when the master of the house is coming in the evening, at midnight, at cock-crow, or at dawn. | So you are to keep watch: because you are not certain when the master of the house is coming, in the evening, or in the middle of the night, or at the cock's cry, or in the morning; |
Mark 13:36 | lest coming suddenly he might find you sleeping. | Beware lest He should arrive unexpectedly and find you asleep. | For fear that, coming suddenly, he sees you sleeping. |
Mark 13:37 | What I tell you, I tell all: Watch." | Moreover, what I say to you I say to all Be wakeful!" | And what I say to you, I say to all, Keep watch. |
