Titus 2:1 | But say the things which fit the sound doctrine, | But as for you, you must speak in a manner that befits wholesome teaching. | But let your words be in agreement with true and right teaching: |
Titus 2:2 | that older men should be temperate, sensible, sober-minded, sound in faith, in love, and in patience: | Exhort aged men to be temperate, grave, sober-minded, robust in their faith, their love and their patience. | That old men are to be simple in their tastes, serious, wise, true in faith, in love, and of a quiet mind. |
Titus 2:3 | and that older women likewise be reverent in behavior, not slanderers nor enslaved to much wine, teachers of that which is good; | In the same way exhort aged women to let their conduct be such as becomes consecrated persons. They must not be slanderers nor enslaved to wine-drinking. They must be teachers of what is right. | That old women are to be self-respecting in behaviour, not saying evil of others, not given to taking much wine, teachers of that which is good, |
Titus 2:4 | that they may train the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, | They should school the young women to be affectionate to their husbands and to their children, to be sober-minded, pure in their lives, | Training the younger women to have love for their husbands and children, |
Titus 2:5 | to be sober-minded, chaste, workers at home, kind, being in subjection to their own husbands, that God's word may not be blasphemed. | industrious in their homes, kind, submissive to their husbands, so that the Christian teaching may not be exposed to reproach. | To be wise in mind, clean in heart, kind; working in their houses, living under the authority of their husbands; so that no evil may be said of the word of God. |
Titus 2:6 | Likewise, exhort the younger men to be sober-minded; | In the same way exhort the younger men to be discreet, | To the young men give orders to be wise and serious-minded: |
Titus 2:7 | in all things showing yourself an example of good works; in your teaching showing integrity, seriousness, incorruptibility, | and above all make your own life a pattern of right conduct, having in your teaching no taint of insincerity, but a serious tone, | In all things see that you are an example of good works; holy in your teaching, serious in behaviour, |
Titus 2:8 | and soundness of speech that can't be condemned; that he who opposes you may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say about us. | and healthy language which no one can censure, so that our opponents may feel ashamed at having nothing evil to say against us. | Saying true and right words, against which no protest may be made, so that he who is not on our side may be put to shame, unable to say any evil of us. |
Titus 2:9 | Exhort servants to be in subjection to their own masters, and to be well-pleasing in all things; not contradicting; | Exhort slaves to be always obedient to their owners, and to give them satisfaction in everything, not contradicting and not pilfering, | Servants are to be under the authority of their masters, pleasing them in all things, without argument; |
Titus 2:10 | not stealing, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God, our Savior, in all things. | but manifesting perfect fidelity and kind feeling, in order to bring honour to the teaching of our Saviour, God, in all things. | Not taking what is not theirs, but giving clear signs of their good faith, in all things doing credit to the teaching of God our Saviour. |
Titus 2:11 | For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, | For the grace of God has displayed itself with healing power to all mankind, | For the grace of God has come, giving salvation to all men, |
Titus 2:12 | instructing us to the intent that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we would live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world; | training us to renounce ungodliness and all the pleasures of this world, and to live sober, upright, and pious lives at the present time, | Training us so that, turning away from evil and the desires of this world, we may be living wisely and uprightly in the knowledge of God in this present life; |
Titus 2:13 | looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of the great God and our Savior, Jesus Christ; | in expectation of the fulfilment of our blessed hope the Appearing in glory of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ; | Looking for the glad hope, the revelation of the glory of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ; |
Titus 2:14 | who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify to himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good works. | who gave Himself for us to purchase our freedom from all iniquity, and purify for Himself a people who should be specially His own, zealous for doing good works. | Who gave himself for us, so that he might make us free from all wrongdoing, and make for himself a people clean in heart and on fire with good works. |
Titus 2:15 | Say these things and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no man despise you. | Thus speak, exhort, reprove, with all impressiveness. Let no one make light of your authority. | On all these points give teaching and help, and make clear what is right with all authority. Let all men give you honour. |
