Matthew 22:1Jesus answered and spoke again in parables to them, saying,Again Jesus spoke to them in figurative language.And Jesus answering spoke to them again in parables, saying,
Matthew 22:2"The Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain king, who made a marriage feast for his son,"The Kingdom of the Heavens," He said, "may be compared to a king who celebrated the marriage of his son,The kingdom of the heavens has become like a king who made a wedding feast for his son,
Matthew 22:3and sent forth his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage feast, but they would not come.and sent his servants to call the invited guests to the wedding, but they were unwilling to come.and sent his bondmen to call the persons invited to the wedding feast, and they would not come.
Matthew 22:4Again he sent forth other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are invited, "Behold, I have made ready my dinner. My oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the marriage feast."'"Again he sent other servants with a message to those who were invited. "`My breakfast is now ready," he said, `my bullocks and fat cattle are killed, and every preparation is made: come to the wedding.'Again he sent other bondmen, saying, Say to the persons invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fatted beasts are killed, and all things ready; come to the wedding feast.
Matthew 22:5But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise,"They however gave no heed, but went, one to his home in the country, another to his business;But they made light of it, and went, one to his own land, and another to his commerce.
Matthew 22:6and the rest grabbed his servants, and treated them shamefully, and killed them.and the rest seized the king's servants, maltreated them, and murdered them.And the rest, laying hold of his bondmen, ill-treated and slew [them].
Matthew 22:7But the king was angry, and he sent his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.So the king's anger was stirred, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burnt their city.And [when] the king [heard of it he] was wroth, and having sent his forces, destroyed those murderers and burned their city.
Matthew 22:8Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready, but they who were invited were not worthy.Then he said to his servants, "`The wedding banquet is ready, but those who were invited were unworthy of it.Then he says to his bondmen, The wedding feast is ready, but those invited were not worthy;
Matthew 22:9Go therefore to the intersections of the highways, and as many as you may find, invite to the marriage feast.'Go out therefore to the crossroads, and everybody you meet invite to the wedding.'go therefore into the thoroughfares of the highways, and as many as ye shall find invite to the wedding feast.
Matthew 22:10Those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together as many as they found, both bad and good. The wedding was filled with guests."So they went out into the roads and gathered together all they could find, both bad and good, and the banqueting hall was filled with guests.And those bondmen went out into the highways, and brought together all as many as they found, both evil and good; and the wedding feast was furnished with guests.
Matthew 22:11But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who didn't have on wedding-clothing,"Now the king came in to see the guests; and among them he discovered one who was not wearing a wedding-robe.And the king, having gone in to see the guests, beheld there a man not clothed with a wedding garment.
Matthew 22:12and he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here not having wedding-clothing?' He was speechless."`My friend,' he said, `how is it that you came in here without a wedding robe?'And he says to him, [My] friend, how camest thou in here not having on a wedding garment? But he was speechless.
Matthew 22:13Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and throw him into the outer darkness; there is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.'"The man stood speechless. Then the king said to the servants, "`Bind him hand and foot and fling him into the darkness outside: there will be the weeping aloud and the gnashing of teeth.'Then said the king to the servants, Bind him feet and hands, and take him away, and cast him out into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 22:14For many are called, but few chosen.""For there are many called, but few chosen."For many are called ones, but few chosen ones.
Matthew 22:15Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might entrap him in his talk.Then the Pharisees went and consulted together how they might entrap Him in His conversation.Then went the Pharisees and held a council how they might ensnare him in speaking.
Matthew 22:16They sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are honest, and teach the way of God in truth, no matter who you teach, for you aren't partial to anyone.So they sent to Him their disciples together with the Herodians; who said, "Teacher, we know that you are truthful and that you faithfully teach God's truth; and that no fear of man misleads you, for you are not biased by men's wealth or rank.And they send out to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that thou art true and teachest the way of God in truth, and carest not for any one, for thou regardest not men's person;
Matthew 22:17Tell us therefore, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?"Give us your judgement therefore: is it allowable for us to pay a poll-tax to Caesar, or not?"tell us therefore what thou thinkest: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
Matthew 22:18But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, "Why do you test me, you hypocrites?Perceiving their wickedness, Jesus replied, "Why are you hypocrites trying to ensnare me?But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, Why tempt ye me, hypocrites?
Matthew 22:19Show me the tax money." They brought to him a denarius.Show me the tribute coin." And they brought Him a shilling.Shew me the money of the tribute. And they presented to him a denarius.
Matthew 22:20He asked them, "Whose is this image and inscription?""Whose likeness and inscription," He asked, "is this?"And he says to them, Whose [is] this image and superscription?
Matthew 22:21They said to him, "Caesar's." Then he said to them, "Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.""Caesar's," they replied. "Pay therefore," He rejoined, "what is Caesar's to Caesar; and what is God's to God."They say to him, Caesar's. Then he says to them, Pay then what is Caesar's to Caesar, and what is God's to God.
Matthew 22:22When they heard it, they marveled, and left him, and went away.They heard this, and were astonished; then left Him, and went their way.And when they heard [him], they wondered, and left him, and went away.
Matthew 22:23On that day Sadducees (those who say that there is no resurrection) came to him. They asked him,On the same day a party of Sadducees came to Him, contending that there is no resurrection. And they put this case to Him.On that day came to him Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection; and they demanded of him,
Matthew 22:24saying, "Teacher, Moses said, 'If a man dies, having no children, his brother will marry his wife, and raise up seed for his brother.'"Teacher," they said, "Moses enjoined, `If a man die childless, his brother shall marry his widow, and raise up a family for him.'saying, Teacher, Moses said, If any one die, not having children, his brother shall marry his wife and shall raise up seed to his brother.
Matthew 22:25Now there were with us seven brothers. The first married and died, and having no seed left his wife to his brother.Now we had among us seven brothers. The eldest of them married, but died childless, leaving his wife to his brother.Now there were with us seven brethren; and the first having married died, and not having seed, left his wife to his brother.
Matthew 22:26In like manner the second also, and the third, to the seventh.So also did the second and the third, down to the seventh,In like manner also the second and the third, unto the seven.
Matthew 22:27After them all, the woman died.till the woman also died, after surviving them all.And last of all the woman also died.
Matthew 22:28In the resurrection therefore, whose wife will she be of the seven? For they all had her."At the Resurrection, therefore, whose wife of the seven will she be? for they all married her."In the resurrection therefore of which of the seven shall she be wife, for all had her?
Matthew 22:29But Jesus answered them, "You are mistaken, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.The reply of Jesus was, "You are in error, through ignorance of the Scriptures and of the power of God.And Jesus answering said to them, Ye err, not knowing the scriptures nor the power of God.
Matthew 22:30For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like God's angels in heaven.For in the Resurrection, men neither marry nor are women given in marriage, but they are like angels in Heaven.For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as angels of God in heaven.
Matthew 22:31But concerning the resurrection of the dead, haven't you read that which was spoken to you by God, saying,But as to the Resurrection of the dead, have you never read what God says to you,But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read what was spoken to you by God, saying,
Matthew 22:32'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?' God is not the God of the dead, but of the living."`I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? He is not the God of dead, but of living men."*I* am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not God of [the] dead, but of [the] living.
Matthew 22:33When the multitudes heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.All the crowd heard this, and were filled with amazement at His teaching.And when the crowds heard [it] they were astonished at his doctrine.
Matthew 22:34But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, gathered themselves together.Now the Pharisees came up when they heard that He had silenced the Sadducees,But the Pharisees, having heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, were gathered together.
Matthew 22:35One of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, testing him.and one of them, an expounder of the Law, asked Him as a test question,And one of them, a lawyer, demanded, tempting him, and saying,
Matthew 22:36"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?""Teacher, which is the greatest Commandment in the Law?"Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?
Matthew 22:37Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.'"`Thou shalt love the Lord thy God,'" He answered, "`with thy whole heart, thy whole soul, thy whole mind.'And he said to him, Thou shalt love [the] Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy understanding.
Matthew 22:38This is the first and great commandment.This is the greatest and foremost Commandment.This is [the] great and first commandment.
Matthew 22:39A second likewise is this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'And the second is similar to it: `Thou shalt love thy fellow man as much as thyself.'And [the] second is like it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Matthew 22:40The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments."The whole of the Law and the Prophets is summed up in these two Commandments."On these two commandments the whole law and the prophets hang.
Matthew 22:41Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question,While the Pharisees were still assembled there, Jesus put a question to them.And the Pharisees being gathered together, Jesus demanded of them,
Matthew 22:42saying, "What do you think of the Christ? Whose son is he?" They said to him, "Of David.""What think you about the Christ," He said, "whose son is He?" "David's," they replied.saying, What think ye concerning the Christ? whose son is he? They say to him, David's.
Matthew 22:43He said to them, "How then does David in the Spirit call him Lord, saying,"How then," He asked, "does David, taught by the Spirit, call Him Lord, when he says,He says to them, How then does David in Spirit call him Lord, saying,
Matthew 22:44'The Lord said to my Lord, Sit on my right hand, Until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet?'"`The Lord said to my Lord, sit at My right hand until I have put thy foes beneath thy feet'?The Lord said to my Lord, Sit on my right hand until I put thine enemies under thy feet?
Matthew 22:45"If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?""If therefore David calls Him Lord, how can He be his son?"If therefore David call him Lord, how is he his son?
Matthew 22:46No one was able to answer him a word, neither dared any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.No one could say a word in reply, nor from that day did any one venture again to put a question to Him.And no one was able to answer him a word, nor did any one dare from that day to question him any more.
