Luke 8:1It happened soon afterwards, that he went about through cities and villages, preaching and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God, and with him the twelve,Shortly after this He visited town after town, and village after village, proclaiming His Message and telling the Good News of the Kingdom of God. The Twelve were with Him,And it came to pass afterwards, that he travelled through the cities and towns, preaching and evangelizing the kingdom of God; and the twelve with him:
Luke 8:2and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary who was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out;and certain women whom He had delivered from evil spirits and various diseases Mary of Magdala, out of whom seven demons had come,And certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities; Mary who is called Magdalen, out of whom seven devils were gone forth,
Luke 8:3and Joanna, the wife of Chuzas, Herod's steward, Susanna; and many others; who ministered to them from their possessions.and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many other women, all of whom contributed to the support of Jesus and His Apostles. And Joanna the wife of Chusa, Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others who ministered unto him of their substance.
Luke 8:4When a great multitude came together, and people from every city were coming to him, he spoke by a parable. And when a great crowd was assembling, and was receiving additions from one town after another, He spoke a parable to them. And when a very great multitude was gathered together, and hastened out of the cities unto him, he spoke by a similitude.
Luke 8:5"The farmer went out to sow his seed. As he sowed, some fell by the road, and it was trampled under foot, and the birds of the sky devoured it."The sower," He said, "goes out to sow his seed; and as he sows, some of the seed falls by the way-side, and is trodden upon, or the birds of the air come and peck it up.The sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.
Luke 8:6Other seed fell on the rock, and as soon as it grew, it withered away, because it had no moisture.Another part drops upon the rock, and after growing up it withers away for want of moisture. And other some fell upon a rock: and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it had no moisture.
Luke 8:7Other fell amid the thorns, and the thorns grew with it, and choked it.Another part falls among the thorns, and the thorns grow up with it and stifle it.And other some fell among thorns, and the thorns growing up with it, choked it.
Luke 8:8Other fell into the good ground, and grew, and brought forth fruit one hundred times." As he said these things, he called out, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"But some of the seed falls into good ground, and grows up and yields a return of a hundred for one." While thus speaking, He cried aloud and said, "Listen, every one who has ears to listen with!"And other some fell upon good ground; and being sprung up, yielded fruit a hundredfold. Saying these things, he cried out: He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Luke 8:9Then his disciples asked him, "What does this parable mean?"The disciples proceeded to ask Him what this parable meant. And his disciples asked him what this parable might be.
Luke 8:10He said, "To you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest in parables; that 'seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.'"To you," He replied, "it is granted to know the secrets of the Kingdom of God; but all others are taught by parables, in order that they may see and yet not see, and may hear and yet not understand. To whom he said: To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to the rest in parables, that seeing they may not see, and hearing may not understand.
Luke 8:11Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.The meaning of the parable is as follows. The seed is God's Message. Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
Luke 8:12Those by the road are those who hear, then the devil comes, and takes away the word from their heart, that they may not believe and be saved. Those by the way-side are those who have heard, and then the Devil comes and carries away the Message from their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. And they by the way side are they that hear; then the devil cometh, and taketh the word out of their heart, lest believing they should be saved.
Luke 8:13Those on the rock are they who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; but these have no root, who believe for a while, and fall away in time of temptation. Those on the rock are the people who on hearing the Message receive it joyfully; but they have no root: for a time they believe, but when trial comes they fall away. Now they upon the rock, are they who when they hear, receive the word with joy: and these have no roots; for they believe for a while, and in time of temptation, they fall away.
Luke 8:14That which fell among the thorns, these are those who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity. That which fell among the thorns means those who have heard, but as they go on their way, the Message is stifled by the anxieties, wealth and gaieties of time, and they yield nothing in perfection. And that which fell among thorns, are they who have heard, and going their way, are choked with the cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and yield no fruit.
Luke 8:15That in the good ground, these are such as in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, hold it tightly, and bring forth fruit with patience. But as for that in the good ground, it means those who, having listened to the Message with open minds and in a right spirit, hold it fast, and patiently yield a return. But that on the good ground, are they who in a good and perfect heart, hearing the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit in patience.
Luke 8:16"No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a container, or puts it under a bed; but puts it on a stand, that those who enter in may see the light."When any one lights a lamp, he does not cover it with a vessel or hide it under a couch; he puts it on a lampstand, that people who enter the room may see the light. Now no man lighting a candle covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it upon a candlestick, that they who come in may see the light.
Luke 8:17For nothing is hidden, that will not be revealed; nor anything secret, that will not be known and come to light. There is nothing hidden, which shall not be openly seen; nor anything secret, which shall not be known and come into the light of day.For there is not any thing secret that shall not be made manifest, nor hidden, that shall not be known and come abroad.
Luke 8:18Be careful therefore how you hear. For whoever has, to him will be given; and whoever doesn't have, from him will be taken away even that which he thinks he has."Be careful, therefore, how you hear; for whoever has anything, to him more shall be given, and whoever has nothing, even that which he thinks he has shall be taken away from him."Take heed therefore how you hear. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given: and whosoever hath not, that also which he thinketh he hath, shall be taken away from him.
Luke 8:19His mother and brothers came to him, and they could not come near him for the crowd. Then came to Him His mother and His brothers, but could not get near Him for the crowd. And his mother and brethren came unto him; and they could not come at him for the crowd.
Luke 8:20It was told him by some saying, "Your mother and your brothers stand outside, desiring to see you."But He was told, "Your mother and brothers are standing on the edge of the crowd, and want to see you."And it was told him: Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.
Luke 8:21But he answered them, "My mother and my brothers are these who hear the word of God, and do it.""My mother and my brothers," He replied, "are these who hear God's Message and obey it."Who answering, said to them: My mother and my brethren are they who hear the word of God, and do it.
Luke 8:22Now it happened on one of those days, that he entered into a boat, himself and his disciples, and he said to them, "Let's go over to the other side of the lake." So they launched out.One day He went on board a boat both He and his disciples; and He said to them, "Let us cross over to the other side of the Lake." So they set sail. And it came to pass on a certain day that he went into a little ship with his disciples, and he said to them: Let us go over to the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.
Luke 8:23But as they sailed, he fell asleep. A wind storm came down on the lake, and they were taking on dangerous amounts of water.During the passage He fell asleep, and there came down a squall of wind on the Lake, so that the boat began to fill and they were in deadly peril. And when they were sailing, he slept; and there came down a storm of wind upon the lake, and they were filled, and were in danger.
Luke 8:24They came to him, and awoke him, saying, "Master, master, we are dying!" He awoke, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water, and they ceased, and it was calm.So they came and woke Him, crying, "Rabbi, Rabbi, we are drowning." Then He roused Himself and rebuked the wind and the surging of the water, and they ceased and there was a calm. And they came and awaked him, saying: Master, we perish. But he arising, rebuked the wind and the rage of the water; and it ceased, and there was a calm.
Luke 8:25He said to them, "Where is your faith?" Being afraid they marveled, saying one to another, "Who is this, then, that he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?""Where is your faith?" He asked them. But they were filled with terror and amazement, and said to one another, "Who then is this? for He gives orders both to wind and waves, and they obey Him."And he said to them: Where is your faith? Who being afraid, wondered, saying one to another: Who is this, (think you), that he commandeth both the winds and the sea, and they obey him?
Luke 8:26They arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee. Then they put in to shore in the country of the Gerasenes, which lies opposite to Galilee. And they sailed to the country of the Gerasens, which is over against Galilee.
Luke 8:27When Jesus stepped ashore, a certain man out of the city met him, who had demons for a long time. He wore no clothes, and didn't live in a house, but in the tombs. Here, on landing, He was met by one of the townsmen who was possessed by demons for a long time he had not put on any garment, nor did he live in a house, but in the tombs. And when he was come forth to the land, there met him a certain man who had a devil now a very long time, and he wore no clothes, neither did he abide in a house, but in the sepulchres.
Luke 8:28When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, "What do I have to do with you, Jesus, you Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don't torment me!"When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before Him, and said in a loud voice, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of God Most High? Do not torture me, I beseech you."And when he saw Jesus, he fell down before him; and crying out with a loud voice, he said: What have I to do with thee, Jesus, Son of the most high God? I beseech thee, do not torment me.
Luke 8:29For Jesus was commanding the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For the unclean spirit had often seized the man. He was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters. Breaking the bands apart, he was driven by the demon into the desert. For already He had been commanding the foul spirit to come out of the man. For many a time it had seized and held him, and they had repeatedly put him in chains and fetters and kept guard over him, but he used to break the chains to pieces, and, impelled by the demon, to escape into the Desert. For he commanded the unclean spirit to go out of the man. For many times it seized him, and he was bound with chains, and kept in fetters; and breaking the bonds, he was driven by the devil into the deserts.
Luke 8:30Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" He said, "Legion," for many demons had entered into him."What is your name?" Jesus asked him. "Legion," he replied because a great number of demons had entered into him;And Jesus asked him, saying: What is thy name? But he said: Legion; because many devils were entered into him.
Luke 8:31They begged him who he would not command them to go into the abyss.and they besought Him not to command them to be gone into the Bottomless Pit.And they besought him that he would not command them to go into the abyss.
Luke 8:32Now there was there a herd of many pigs feeding on the mountain, and they begged him that he would allow them to enter into those. He allowed them. Now there was a great herd of swine there feeding on the hill-side; and the demons begged Him to give them leave to go into them, and He gave them leave. And there was there a herd of many swine feeding on the mountain; and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them.
Luke 8:33The demons came out from the man, and entered into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake, and were drowned. The demons came out of the man and left him, and entered into the swine; and the herd rushed violently over the cliff into the Lake and were drowned. The devils therefore went out of the man, and entered into the swine; and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were stifled.
Luke 8:34When those who fed them saw what had happened, they fled, and told it in the city and in the country. The swineherds, seeing what had happened, fled and reported it both in town and country;Which when they that fed them saw done, they fled away, and told it in the city and in the villages.
Luke 8:35People went out to see what had happened. They came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons were gone out, sitting, clothed and in his right mind, at the feet of Jesus; and they were afraid.whereupon the people came out to see what had happened. They came to Jesus, and they found the man from whom the demons had gone out sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they were terrified. And they went out to see what was done; and they came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at his feet, clothed, and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
Luke 8:36Those who saw it told them how he who was possessed with demons was healed. And those who had seen it told them how the demoniac was cured. And they also that had seen, told them how he had been healed from the legion.
Luke 8:37All the people of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes asked him to depart from them, for they were very much afraid. He entered into the boat, and returned. Then the whole population of the Gerasenes and of the adjacent districts begged Him to depart from them; for their terror was great. So He went on board and returned. And all the multitude of the country of the Gerasens besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear. And he, going up into the ship, returned back again.
Luke 8:38But the man from whom the demons had gone out begged him that he might go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying,But the man from whom the demons had gone out earnestly asked permission to go with Him; but He sent him away. Now the man, out of whom the devils were departed, besought him that he might be with him. But Jesus sent him away, saying:
Luke 8:39"Return to your house, and declare what great things God has done for you." He went his way, proclaiming throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him."Return home," He said, "and tell there all that God has done for you." So he went and published through the whole town all that Jesus had done for him.Return to thy house, and tell how great things God hath done to thee. And he went through the whole city, publishing how great things Jesus had done to him.
Luke 8:40It happened, as Jesus returned, the multitude welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him.Now when Jesus was returning, the people gave Him a warm welcome; for they had all been looking out for Him.And it came to pass, that when Jesus was returned, the multitude received him: for they were all waiting for him.
Luke 8:41Behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue. He fell down at Jesus' feet, and begged him to come into his house,Just then there came a man named Jair, a Warden of the Synagogue, who threw himself at the feet of Jesus, and entreated Him to come to his house; And behold there came a man whose name was Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at the feet of Jesus, beseeching him that he would come into his house:
Luke 8:42for he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying. But as he went, the multitudes thronged him.for he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying. And as He went, the dense throng crowded on Him.For he had an only daughter, almost twelve years old, and she was dying. And it happened as he went, that he was thronged by the multitudes.
Luke 8:43A woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her living on physicians, and could not be healed by any,And a woman who for twelve years had been afflicted with haemorrhage and had spent on doctors all she had, but none of them had been able to cure herAnd there was a certain woman having an issue of blood twelve years, who had bestowed all her substance on physicians, and could not be healed by any.
Luke 8:44came behind him, and touched the fringe of his cloak, and immediately the flow of her blood stopped.came close behind Him and touched the tassel of His robe; and instantly her flow of blood stopped. She came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment; and immediately the issue of her blood stopped.
Luke 8:45Jesus said, "Who touched me?" When all denied, Peter and those with him said, "Master, the multitudes press and jostle you, and you say, 'Who touched me?'""Who is it touched me?" Jesus asked. And when all denied having done so, Peter and the rest said, "Rabbi, the crowds are hemming you in and pressing on you."And Jesus said: Who is it that touched me? And all denying, Peter and they that were with him said: Master, the multitudes throng and press thee, and dost thou say, Who touched me?
Luke 8:46But Jesus said, "Someone did touch me, for I perceived that power has gone out of me.""Some one has touched me," Jesus replied, "for I feel that power has gone out from me."And Jesus said: Somebody hath touched me; for I know that virtue is gone out from me.
Luke 8:47When the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared to him in the presence of all the people the reason why she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately. Then the woman, perceiving that she had not escaped notice, came trembling, and throwing herself down at His feet she stated before all the people the reason why she had touched Him and how she was instantly cured. And the woman seeing that she was not hid, came trembling, and fell down before his feet, and declared before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was immediately healed.
Luke 8:48He said to her, "Daughter, cheer up. Your faith has made you well. Go in peace.""Daughter," said He, "your faith has cured you; go, and be at peace."But he said to her: Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go thy way in peace.
Luke 8:49While he still spoke, one from the ruler of the synagogue's house came, saying to him, "Your daughter is dead. Don't trouble the Teacher."While He was still speaking, some one came to the Warden of the Synagogue from his house and said, "Your daughter is dead; trouble the Rabbi no further."As he was yet speaking, there cometh one to the ruler of the synagogue, saying to him: Thy daughter is dead, trouble him not.
Luke 8:50But Jesus hearing it, answered him, "Don't be afraid. Only believe, and she will be healed."Jesus heard the words and said to him, "Have no fear. Only believe, and she shall be restored to life."And Jesus hearing this word, answered the father of the maid: Fear not; believe only, and she shall be safe.
Luke 8:51When he came to the house, he didn't allow anyone to enter in, except Peter, John, James, the father of the girl, and her mother. So He came to the house, but allowed no one to go in with Him but Peter and John and James and the girl's father and mother. And when he was come to the house, he suffered not any man to go in with him, but Peter and James and John, and the father and mother of the maiden.
Luke 8:52All were weeping, and mourning her, but he said, "Don't weep. She isn't dead, but sleeping."The people were all weeping aloud and beating their breasts for her; but He said, "Leave off wailing; for she is not dead, but asleep."And all wept and mourned for her. But he said: Weep not; the maid is not dead, but sleepeth.
Luke 8:53They laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. And they jeered at Him, knowing that she was dead. And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.
Luke 8:54But he put them all outside, and taking her by the hand, he called, saying, "Little girl, arise!"He, however, took her by the hand and called aloud, "Child, awake!"But he taking her by the hand, cried out, saying: Maid, arise.
Luke 8:55Her spirit returned, and she rose up immediately. He commanded that something be given to her to eat.And her spirit returned, and instantly she stood up; and He directed them to give her some food. And her spirit returned, and she arose immediately. And he bid them give her to eat.
Luke 8:56Her parents were amazed, but he charged them to tell no one what had been done. Her parents were astounded; but He forbad them to mention the matter to any one.And her parents were astonished, whom he charged to tell no man what was done.
