John 21:1After these things, Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias. He revealed himself this way.After this, Jesus again showed Himself to the disciples. It was at the Lake of Tiberias. The circumstances were as follows.After these things did Jesus manifest himself again to the disciples on the sea of Tiberias, and he did manifest himself thus:
John 21:2Simon Peter, Thomas called Didymus, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together.Simon Peter was with Thomas, called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zabdi, and two others of the Master's disciples.There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas who is called Didymus, and Nathanael from Cana of Galilee, and the [sons] of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples.
John 21:3Simon Peter said to them, "I'm going fishing." They told him, "We are also coming with you." They immediately went forth, and entered into the boat. That night, they caught nothing.Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." "We will go too," said they. So they set out and went on board their boat; but they caught nothing that night.Simon Peter saith to them, `I go away to fish;` they say to him, `We go we also with thee;` they went forth and entered into the boat immediately, and on that night they caught nothing.
John 21:4But when day was now breaking, Jesus stood on the beach, yet the disciples didn't know that it was Jesus.When, however, day was now dawning, Jesus stood on the beach, though the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.And morning being now come, Jesus stood at the shore, yet indeed the disciples did not know that it is Jesus;
John 21:5Jesus therefore said to them, "Children, have you anything to eat?" They answered him, "No."He called to them. "Children," He said, "have you any food there?" "No," they answered.Jesus, therefore, saith to them, `Lads, have ye any meat?`
John 21:6He said to them, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some." They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it in for the multitude of fish."Throw the net in on the right hand side," He said, "and you will find fish." So they threw the net in, and now they could scarcely drag it along for the quantity of fish.they answered him, `No;` and he said to them, `Cast the net at the right side of the boat, and ye shall find;` they cast, therefore, and no longer were they able to draw it, from the multitude of the fishes.
John 21:7That disciple therefore whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It's the Lord!" So when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he wrapped his coat around him (for he was naked), and threw himself into the sea.This made the disciple whom Jesus loved say to Peter, "It is the Master." Simon Peter therefore, when he heard the words, "It is the Master," drew on his fisherman's shirt for he had not been wearing it put on his girdle, and sprang into the water.That disciple, therefore, whom Jesus was loving saith to Peter, `The Lord it is!` Simon Peter, therefore, having heard that it is the Lord, did gird on the outer coat, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea;
John 21:8But the other disciples came in the little boat (for they were not far from the land, but about two hundred cubits away), dragging the net full of fish.But the rest of the disciples came in the small boat (for they were not far from land only about a hundred yards off), dragging the net full of fish.and the other disciples came by the little boat, for they were not far from the land, but as it were about two hundred cubits off, dragging the net of the fishes;
John 21:9So when they got out on the land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread.As soon as they landed, they saw a charcoal fire burning there, with fish broiling on it, and bread close by.when, therefore, they came to the land, they behold a fire of coals lying, and a fish lying on it, and bread.
John 21:10Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish which you have just caught."Jesus told them to fetch some of the fish which they had just caught.Jesus saith to them, `Bring ye from the fishes that ye caught now;`
John 21:11Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land, full of great fish, one hundred fifty-three; and even though there were so many, the net wasn't torn.So Simon Peter went on board the boat and drew the net ashore full of large fish, 153 in number; and yet, although there were so many, the net had not broken.Simon Peter went up, and drew the net up on the land, full of great fishes, an hundred fifty and three, and though they were so many, the net was not rent.
John 21:12Jesus said to them, "Come and eat breakfast." None of the disciples dared inquire of him, "Who are you?" knowing that it was the Lord."Come this way and have breakfast," said Jesus. But not one of the disciples ventured to question Him as to who He was, for they felt sure that it was the Master.Jesus saith to them, `Come ye, dine;` and none of the disciples was venturing to inquire of him, `Who art thou?` knowing that it is the Lord;
John 21:13Then Jesus came and took the bread, gave it to them, and the fish likewise.Then Jesus came and took the bread and gave them some, and the fish in the same way.Jesus, therefore, doth come and take the bread and give to them, and the fish in like manner;
John 21:14This is now the third time that Jesus was revealed to his disciples, after he had risen from the dead.This was now the third occasion on which Jesus showed Himself to the disciples after He had risen from among the dead.this [is] now a third time Jesus was manifested to his disciples, having been raised from the dead.
John 21:15So when they had eaten their breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I have affection for you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs."When they had finished breakfast, Jesus asked Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these others do?" "Yes, Master," was his answer; "you know that you are dear to me." "Then feed my lambs," replied Jesus.When, therefore, they dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, `Simon, [son] of Jonas, dost thou love me more than these?` he saith to him, `Yes, Lord; thou hast known that I dearly love thee;` he saith to him, `Feed my lambs.`
John 21:16He said to him again a second time, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I have affection for you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep."Again a second time He asked him, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" "Yes, Master," he said, "you know that you are dear to me." "Then be a shepherd to my sheep," He said.He saith to him again, a second time, `Simon, [son] of Jonas, dost thou love me?` he saith to him, `Yes, Lord; thou hast known that I dearly love thee;` he saith to him, `Tend my sheep.`
John 21:17He says to him the third time, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you have affection for me?" Peter was grieved because he asked him the third time, "Do you have affection for me?" He said to him, "Lord, you know everything. You know that I have affection for you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep.A third time Jesus put the question: "Simon, son of John, am I dear to you?" It grieved Peter that Jesus asked him the third time, "Am I dear to you?" "Master," he replied, "you know everything, you can see that you are dear to me." "Then feed my much-loved sheep," said Jesus.He saith to him the third time, `Simon, [son] of Jonas, dost thou dearly love me?` Peter was grieved that he said to him the third time, `Dost thou dearly love me?` and he said to him, `Lord, thou hast known all things; thou dost know that I dearly love thee.` Jesus saith to him, `Feed my sheep;
John 21:18Most assuredly I tell you, when you were young, you dressed yourself, and walked where you wanted to. But when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you, and carry you where you don't want to go.""In most solemn truth I tell you that whereas, when you were young, you used to put on your girdle and walk whichever way you chose, when you have grown old you will stretch out your arms and some one else will put a girdle round you and carry you where you have no wish to go."verily, verily, I say to thee, When thou wast younger, thou wast girding thyself and wast walking whither thou didst will, but when thou mayest be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another will gird thee, and shall carry [thee] whither thou dost not will;`
John 21:19Now he said this, signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God. When he had said this, he said to him, "Follow me."This He said to indicate the kind of death by which that disciple would bring glory to God; and after speaking thus He said to him, "Follow me."and this he said, signifying by what death he shall glorify God; and having said this, he saith to him, `Be following me.`
John 21:20Then Peter, turning around, saw a disciple following. This was the disciple whom Jesus sincerely loved, the one who had also leaned on Jesus' breast at the supper and asked, "Lord, who is going to betray You?"Peter turned round and noticed the disciple whom Jesus loved following the one who at the supper had leaned back on His breast and had asked, "Master, who is it that is betraying you?"And Peter having turned about doth see the disciple whom Jesus was loving following, (who also reclined in the supper on his breast, and said, `Sir, who is he who is delivering thee up?`)
John 21:21Peter seeing him, said to Jesus, "Lord, and what will this man do?"On seeing him, Peter asked Jesus, "And, Master, what about him?"Peter having seen this one, saith to Jesus, `Lord, and what of this one?`
John 21:22Jesus said to him, "If I desire that he stay until I come, what is that to you? You follow me.""If I desire him to remain till I come," replied Jesus, "what concern is that of yours? You, yourself, must follow me."Jesus saith to him, `If him I will to remain till I come, what to thee? be thou following me.` This word, therefore, went forth to the brethren that that disciple doth not die,
John 21:23This saying therefore went forth among the brothers, that that disciple wouldn't die. Yet Jesus didn't say to him that he wouldn't die, but, "If I desire that he stay until I come, what is that to you?"Hence the report spread among the brethren that that disciple would never die. Yet Jesus did not say, "He is not to die," but, "If I desire him to remain till I come, what concern is that of yours?"yet Jesus did not say to him, that he doth not die, but, `If him I will to remain till I come, what to thee?`
John 21:24This is the disciple who testifies about these things, and wrote these things. We know that his witness is true.That is the disciple who gives his testimony as to these matters, and has written this history; and we know that his testimony is true.this is the disciple who is testifying concerning these things, and he wrote these things, and we have known that his testimony is true.
John 21:25There are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they would all be written, I suppose that even the world itself wouldn't contain the books that would be written.But there are also many other things which Jesus did so vast a number indeed that if they were all described in detail, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would have to be written.And there are also many other things as many as Jesus did which, if they may be written one by one, not even the world itself I think to have place for the books written. Amen.
