John 9:1As he passed by, he saw a man blind from his birth.As He passed by, He saw a man who had been blind from his birth.And passing by, he saw a man blind from birth,
John 9:2His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"So His disciples asked Him, "Rabbi, who sinned this man or his parents that he was born blind?"and his disciples asked him, saying, `Rabbi, who did sin, this one or his parents, that he should be born blind?`
John 9:3Jesus answered, "Neither did this man sin, nor his parents. But, that the works of God might be revealed in him,"Neither he nor his parents sinned," answered Jesus, "but he was born blind in order that God's mercy might be openly shown in him.Jesus answered, `Neither did this one sin nor his parents, but that the works of God may be manifested in him;
John 9:4I must work the works of him who sent me, while it is day. The night is coming, when no one can work.We must do the works of Him who sent me while there is daylight. Night is coming on, when no one can work.it behoveth me to be working the works of Him who sent me while it is day; night doth come, when no one is able to work:
John 9:5When I am in the world, I am the light of the world."When I am in the world, I am the Light of the world."when I am in the world, I am a light of the world.`
John 9:6When he had said this, he spat on the ground, made mud with the saliva, anointed the blind man's eyes with the mud,After thus speaking, He spat on the ground, and then, kneading the dust and spittle into clay, He smeared the clay over the man's eyes and said to him,These things saying, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and rubbed the clay on the eyes of the blind man, and said to him,
John 9:7and said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which means "Sent"). So he went away, washed, and came seeing."Go and wash in the pool of Siloam" the name means `Sent.' So he went and washed his eyes, and returned able to see.`Go away, wash at the pool of Siloam,` which is, interpreted, Sent. He went away, therefore, and did wash, and came seeing;
John 9:8The neighbors therefore, and those who saw that he was blind, before, said, "Isn't this he who sat and begged?"His neighbours, therefore, and the other people to whom he had been a familiar object because he was a beggar, began asking, "Is not this the man who used to sit and beg?"the neighbours, therefore, and those seeing him before, that he was blind, said, `Is not this he who is sitting and begging?`
John 9:9Others said, "It is he." Still others said, "He is like him." He said, "I am he.""Yes it is," replied some of them. "No it is not," said others, "but he is like him." His own statement was, "I am the man."others said `This is he;` and others `He is like to him;` he himself said, `I am [he].`
John 9:10They said therefore to him, "How were your eyes opened?""How then were your eyes opened?" they asked.They said, therefore, to him, `How were thine eyes opened?`
John 9:11He answered, "A man called Jesus made mud, anointed my eyes, and said to me, "Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash." So I went away and washed, and I received sight.""He whose name is Jesus," he answered, "made clay and smeared my eyes with it, and then told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed and obtained sight."he answered and said, `A man called Jesus made clay, and rubbed my eyes, and said to me, Go away to the pool of Siloam, and wash; and having gone away and having washed, I received sight;`
John 9:12Then they asked him, "Where is he?" He said, "I don't know.""Where is he?" they inquired, but the man did not know.they said, therefore, to him, `Where is that one?` he saith, `I have not known.`
John 9:13They brought him who before was blind to the Pharisees.They brought him to the Pharisees the man who had been blind.They bring him to the Pharisees who once [was] blind,
John 9:14It was a Sabbath when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes.Now the day on which Jesus made the clay and opened the man's eyes was the Sabbath.and it was a sabbath when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
John 9:15Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. He said to them, "He put mud on my eyes, I washed, and I see."So the Pharisees renewed their questioning as to how he had obtained his sight. "He put clay on my eyes," he replied, "and I washed, and now I can see."Again, therefore, the Pharisees also were asking him how he received sight, and he said to them, `Clay he did put upon my eyes, and I did wash and I see.`
John 9:16Some therefore of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, because he doesn't keep the Sabbath." Others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?" There was division among them.This led some of the Pharisees to say, "That man has not come from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath." "How is it possible for a bad man to do such miracles?" argued others.Of the Pharisees, therefore, certain said, `This man is not from God, because the sabbath he doth not keep;` others said, `How is a man a sinful one able to do such signs?` and there was a division among them.
John 9:17Therefore they asked the blind man again, "What do you say about him, in that he opened your eyes?" He said, "He is a prophet."And there was a division among them. So again they asked the once blind man, "What is your account of him? for he opened your eyes." "He is a Prophet," he replied.They said to the blind man again, `Thou what dost thou say of him that he opened thine eyes?`
John 9:18The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him who had received his sight,The Jews, however, did not believe the statement concerning him that he had been blind and had obtained his sight until they called his parents and asked them,and he said `He is a prophet.` The Jews, therefore, did not believe concerning him that he was blind and did receive sight, till that they called the parents of him who received sight,
John 9:19and asked them, "Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then does he now see?""Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How is it then that he can now see?"and they asked them, saying, `Is your son, of whom ye say that he was born blind? how then now doth he see?`
John 9:20His parents answered them, "We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;"We know," replied the parents, "that this is our son and that he was born blind;His parents answered them and said, `We have known that this is our son, and that he was born blind;
John 9:21but how he now sees, we don't know; or who opened his eyes, we don't know. He is of age. Ask him. He will speak for himself."but how it is that he can now see or who has opened his eyes we do not know. Ask him himself; he is of full age; he himself will give his own account of it."and how he now seeth, we have not known; or who opened his eyes, we have not known; himself is of age, ask him; he himself shall speak concerning himself.`
John 9:22His parents said these things because they feared the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if any man would confess him as Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue.Such was their answer, because they were afraid of the Jews; for the Jews had already settled among themselves that if any one should acknowledge Jesus as the Christ, he should be excluded from the synagogue.These things said his parents, because they were afraid of the Jews, for already had the Jews agreed together, that if any one may confess him Christ, he may be put out of the synagogue;
John 9:23Therefore his parents said, "He is of age. Ask him."That was why his parents said, "He is of full age: ask him himself."because of this his parents said `He is of age, ask him.`
John 9:24So they called the man who was blind a second time, and said to him, "Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner."A second time therefore they called the man who had been blind, and said, "Give God the praise: we know that that man is a sinner."They called, therefore, a second time the man who was blind, and they said to him, `Give glory to God, we have known that this man is a sinner;`
John 9:25He therefore answered, "I don't know if he is a sinner. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.""Whether he is a sinner or not, I do not know," he replied; "one thing I know that I was once blind and that now I can see."he answered, therefore, and said, `If he be a sinner I have not known, one thing I have known, that, being blind, now I see.`
John 9:26They said to him again, "What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?""What did he do to you?" they asked; "how did he open your eyes?"And they said to him again, `What did he to thee? how did he open thine eyes?`
John 9:27He answered them, "I told you already, and you didn't listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become his disciples?""I have told you already," he replied, "and you did not listen to me. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also mean to be disciples of his?"He answered them, `I told you already, and ye did not hear; why again do ye wish to hear? do ye also wish to become his disciples?`
John 9:28They became abusive towards him and said, "You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.Then they railed at him, and said, "You are that man's disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.They reviled him, therefore, and said, `Thou art his disciple, and we are Moses` disciples;
John 9:29We know that God has spoken to Moses. But as for this man, we don't know where he comes from."We know that God spoke to Moses; but as for this fellow we do not know where he comes from."we have known that God hath spoken to Moses, but this one we have not known whence he is.`
John 9:30The man answered them, "How amazing! You don't know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes."Why, this is marvellous!" the man replied; "you do not know where he comes from, and yet he has opened my eyes!The man answered and said to them, `Why, in this is a wonderful thing, that ye have not known whence he is, and he opened my eyes!
John 9:31We know that God doesn't listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshipper of God, and does his will, he listens to him.We know that God does not listen to bad people, but that if any one is a God-fearing man and obeys Him, to him He listens.and we have known that God doth not hear sinners, but, if any one may be a worshipper of God, and may do His will, him He doth hear;
John 9:32Since the world began it has never been heard of that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind.From the beginning of the world such a thing was never heard of as that any one should open the eyes of a man blind from his birth.from the age it was not heard, that any one did open eyes of one who hath been born blind;
John 9:33If this man were not from God, he could do nothing."Had that man not come from God, he could have done nothing."if this one were not from God, he were not able to do anything.`
John 9:34They answered him, "You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?" They threw him out."You," they replied, "were wholly begotten and born in sin, and do *you* teach *us*?" And they put him out of the synagogue.They answered and said to him, `In sins thou wast born altogether, and thou dost teach us!` and they cast him forth without.
John 9:35Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and finding him, he said, "Do you believe in the Son of God?"Jesus heard that they had done this. So having found him, He asked him, "Do you believe in the Son of God?"Jesus heard that they cast him forth without, and having found him, he said to him, `Dost thou believe in the Son of God?`
John 9:36He answered, "Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?""Who is He, Sir?" replied the man. "Tell me, so that I may believe in Him."he answered and said, `Who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?`
John 9:37Jesus said to him, "You have both seen him, and it is he who speaks with you.""You have seen Him," said Jesus; "and not only so: He is now speaking to you."And Jesus said to him, `Thou hast both seen him, and he who is speaking with thee is he;`
John 9:38He said, "Lord, I believe!" and he worshipped him."I believe, Sir," he said. And he threw himself at His feet.and he said, `I believe, sir,` and bowed before him.
John 9:39Jesus said, "I came into this world for judgment, that those who don't see may see; and that those who see may become blind.""I came into this world," said Jesus, "to judge men, that those who do not see may see, and that those who do see may become blind."And Jesus said, `For judgment I to this world did come, that those not seeing may see, and those seeing may become blind.`
John 9:40Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said to him, "Are we also blind?"These words were heard by those of the Pharisees who were present, and they asked Him, "Are *we* also blind?"And those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and they said to him, `Are we also blind?`
John 9:41Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, 'We see.' Therefore your sin remains."If you were blind," answered Jesus, "you would have no sin; but as a matter of fact you boast that you see. So your sin remains!"Jesus said to them, `If ye were blind, ye were not having had sin, but now ye say We see, therefore doth your sin remain.
