Luke 14:1 | It happened, when he went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees on a Sabbath to eat bread, that they were watching him. | And it came to pass, on his going into the house of a certain one of the chiefs of the Pharisees, on a sabbath, to eat bread, that they were watching him, | And it came to pass, when he went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees on a sabbath to eat bread, that they were watching him. |
Luke 14:2 | Behold, a certain man who had dropsy was in front of him. | and lo, there was a certain dropsical man before him; | And behold, there was before him a certain man that had the dropsy. |
Luke 14:3 | Jesus, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?" | and Jesus answering spake to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, `Is it lawful on the sabbath-day to heal?` | And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath, or not? |
Luke 14:4 | But they were silent. He took him, and healed him, and let him go. | and they were silent, and having taken hold of [him], he healed him, and let [him] go; | But they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go. |
Luke 14:5 | He answered them, "Which of you, if your son or an ox fell into a well, wouldn't immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?" | and answering them he said, `Of which of you shall an ass or ox fall into a pit, and he will not immediately draw it up on the sabbath-day?` | And he said unto them, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a well, and will not straightway draw him up on a sabbath day? |
Luke 14:6 | They couldn't answer him regarding these things. | and they were not able to answer him again unto these things. | And they could not answer again unto these things. |
Luke 14:7 | He spoke a parable to those who were invited, when he noticed how they chose the best seats, and said to them, | And he spake a simile unto those called, marking how they were choosing out the first couches, saying unto them, | And he spake a parable unto those that were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief seats; saying unto them, |
Luke 14:8 | "When you are invited by anyone to a marriage feast, don't sit in the best seat, since perhaps a more honorable man than you might be invited by him, | `When thou mayest be called by any one to marriage-feasts, thou mayest not recline on the first couch, lest a more honourable than thou may have been called by him, | When thou art bidden of any man to a marriage feast, sit not down in the chief seat; lest haply a more honorable man than thou be bidden of him, |
Luke 14:9 | and he who invited both of you would come and tell you, 'Make room for this man.' Then you would begin, with shame, to take the lowest place. | and he who did call thee and him having come shall say to thee, Give to this one place, and then thou mayest begin with shame to occupy the last place. | and he that bade thee and him shall come and say to thee, Give this man place; and then thou shalt begin with shame to take the lowest place. |
Luke 14:10 | But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes, he may tell you, 'Friend, move up higher.' Then you will have glory in the presence of all who sit at the table with you. | `But, when thou mayest be called, having gone on, recline in the last place, that when he who called thee may come, he may say to thee, Friend, come up higher; then thou shalt have glory before those reclining with thee; | But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest place; that when he that hath bidden thee cometh, he may say to thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have glory in the presence of all that sit at meat with thee. |
Luke 14:11 | For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted." | because every one who is exalting himself shall be humbled, and he who is humbling himself shall be exalted.` | For everyone that exalteth himself shall be humbled; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. |
Luke 14:12 | He also said to the one who had invited him, "When you make a dinner or a supper, don't call your friends, nor your brothers, nor your kinsmen, nor rich neighbors, or perhaps they might also return the favor, and pay you back. | And he said also to him who did call him, `When thou mayest make a dinner or a supper, be not calling thy friends, nor thy brethren, nor thy kindred, nor rich neighbours, lest they may also call thee again, and a recompense may come to thee; | And he said to him also that had bidden him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, nor thy kinsmen, nor rich neighbors; lest haply they also bid thee again, and a recompense be made thee. |
Luke 14:13 | But when you make a feast, ask the poor, the maimed, the lame, or the blind; | but when thou mayest make a feast, be calling poor, maimed, lame, blind, | But when thou makest a feast, bid the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: |
Luke 14:14 | and you will be blessed, because they don't have the resources to repay you. For you will be repaid in the resurrection of the righteous." | and happy thou shalt be, because they have not to recompense thee, for it shall be recompensed to thee in the rising again of the righteous.` | and thou shalt be blessed; because they have not [wherewith] to recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed in the resurrection of the just. |
Luke 14:15 | When one of those who sat at the table with him heard these things, he said to him, "Blessed is he who will feast in the kingdom of God!" | And one of those reclining with him, having heard these things, said to him, `Happy [is] he who shall eat bread in the reign of God;` | And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God. |
Luke 14:16 | But he said to him, "A certain man made a great supper, and he invited many people. | and he said to him, `A certain man made a great supper, and called many, | But he said unto him, A certain man made a great supper; and he bade many: |
Luke 14:17 | He sent out his servant at supper time to tell those who were invited, 'Come, for everything is ready now.' | and he sent his servant at the hour of the supper to say to those having been called, Be coming, because now are all things ready. | and he sent forth his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for [all] things are now ready. |
Luke 14:18 | They all as one began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please have me excused.' | `And they began with one consent all to excuse themselves: The first said to him, A field I bought, and I have need to go forth and see it; I beg of thee, have me excused. | And they all with one [consent] began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a field, and I must needs go out and see it; I pray thee have me excused. |
Luke 14:19 | Another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I must go try them out. Please have me excused.' | `And another said, Five yoke of oxen I bought, and I go on to prove them; I beg of thee, have me excused: | And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them; I pray thee have me excused. |
Luke 14:20 | Another said, 'I have married a wife, and therefore I can't come.' | and another said, A wife I married, and because of this I am not able to come. | And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. |
Luke 14:21 | That servant came, and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, 'Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor, maimed, blind, and lame.' | `And that servant having come, told to his lord these things, then the master of the house, having been angry, said to his servant, Go forth quickly to the broad places and lanes of the city, and the poor, and maimed, and lame, and blind, bring in hither. | And the servant came, and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor and maimed and blind and lame. |
Luke 14:22 | The servant said, 'Lord, it is done as you commanded, and there is still room.' | `And the servant said, Sir, it hath been done as thou didst command, and still there is room. | And the servant said, Lord, what thou didst command is done, and yet there is room. |
Luke 14:23 | The lord said to the servant, 'Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. | `And the lord said unto the servant, Go forth to the ways and hedges, and constrain to come in, that my house may be filled; | And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and constrain [them] to come in, that my house may be filled. |
Luke 14:24 | For I tell you that none of those men who were invited will taste of my supper.'" | for I say to you, that none of those men who have been called shall taste of my supper.` | For I say unto you, that none of those men that were bidden shall taste of my supper. |
Luke 14:25 | Now great multitudes went with him. He turned and said to them, | And there were going on with him great multitudes, and having turned, he said unto them, | Now there went with him great multitudes: and he turned, and said unto them, |
Luke 14:26 | "If any man comes to me, and doesn't hate his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he can't be my disciple. | `If any one doth come unto me, and doth not hate his own father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and sisters, and yet even his own life, he is not able to be my disciple; | If any man cometh unto me, and hateth not his own father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. |
Luke 14:27 | Whoever doesn't bear his own cross, and come after me, can't be my disciple. | and whoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, is not able to be my disciple. | Whosoever doth not bear his own cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. |
Luke 14:28 | For which of you, desiring to build a tower, doesn't first sit down and count the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it? | `For who of you, willing to build a tower, doth not first, having sat down, count the expense, whether he have the things for completing? | For which of you, desiring to build a tower, doth not first sit down and count the cost, whether he have [wherewith] to complete it? |
Luke 14:29 | Or perhaps, when he has laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, everyone who sees begins to mock him, | lest that he having laid a foundation, and not being able to finish, all who are beholding may begin to mock him, | Lest haply, when he hath laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, all that behold begin to mock him, |

Luke 14:31 | Or what king, as he goes to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? | `Or what king going on to engage with another king in war, doth not, having sat down, first consult if he be able with ten thousand to meet him who with twenty thousand is coming against him? | Or what king, as he goeth to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand? |
Luke 14:32 | Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an envoy, and asks for conditions of peace. | and if not so he being yet a long way off having sent an embassy, he doth ask the things for peace. | Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and asketh conditions of peace. |
Luke 14:33 | So therefore whoever of you who doesn't renounce all that he has, he can't be my disciple. | `So, then, every one of you who doth not take leave of all that he himself hath, is not able to be my disciple. | So therefore whosoever he be of you that renounceth not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple. |
Luke 14:34 | Salt is good, but if the salt becomes flat and tasteless, with what do you season it? | `The salt [is] good, but if the salt doth become tasteless, with what shall it be seasoned? | Salt therefore is good: but if even the salt have lost its savor, wherewith shall it be seasoned? |
Luke 14:35 | It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile. It is thrown out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear." | neither for land nor for manure is it fit they cast it without. He who is having ears to hear let him hear.` | It is fit neither for the land nor for the dunghill: [men] cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. |
