Acts 4:1As they spoke to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came to them,And as they are speaking unto the people, there came to them the priests, and the magistrate of the temple, and the SadduceesWhile they were saying this to the people, the Priests, the Commander of the Temple Guard, and the Sadducees came upon them,
Acts 4:2being upset because they taught the people and proclaimed in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.being grieved because of their teaching the people, and preaching in Jesus the rising again out of the deadhighly incensed at their teaching the people and proclaiming in the case of Jesus the Resurrection from among the dead.
Acts 4:3They laid hands on them, and put them in custody until the next day, for it was now evening.and they laid hands upon them, and did put them in custody unto the morrow, for it was evening already;They arrested the two Apostles and lodged them in custody till the next day; for it was already evening.
Acts 4:4But many of those who heard the word believed, and the number of the men came to be about five thousand.and many of those hearing the word did believe, and the number of the men became, as it were, five thousand.But many of those who had listened to their preaching believed; and the number of the adult men had now grown to be about 5,000.
Acts 4:5It happened in the morning, that their rulers, elders, and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem.And it came to pass upon the morrow, there were gathered together of them the rulers, and elders, and scribes, to Jerusalem,The next day a meeting was held in Jerusalem of their Rulers, Elders, and Scribes,
Acts 4:6Annas the high priest was there, with Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and as many as were relatives of the high priest.and Annas the chief priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the chief priest,with Annas the High Priest, Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and the other members of the high-priestly family.
Acts 4:7When they had stood them in the midst, they inquired, "By what power, or in what name, have you done this?"and having set them in the midst, they were inquiring, `In what power, or in what name did ye do this?`So they made the Apostles stand in the centre, and demanded of them, "By what power or in what name have you done this?"
Acts 4:8Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "You rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,Then Peter, having been filled with the Holy Spirit, said unto them: `Rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,Then Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit, and he replied, "Rulers and Elders of the people,
Acts 4:9if we are examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed,if we to-day are examined concerning the good deed to the ailing man, by whom he hath been saved,if we to-day are under examination concerning the benefit conferred on a man helplessly lame, as to how this man has been cured;
Acts 4:10be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, in him does this man stand here before you whole.be it known to all of you, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye did crucify, whom God did raise out of the dead, in him hath this one stood by before you whole.be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that through the name of Jesus the Anointed, the Nazarene, whom *you* crucified, but whom *God* has raised from among the dead through that name this man stands here before you in perfect health.
Acts 4:11He is 'the stone which was regarded as worthless by you, the builders, which was made the head of the corner.'`This is the stone that was set at nought by you the builders, that became head of a corner;This Jesus is the Stone treated with contempt by you the builders, but it has been made the Cornerstone.
Acts 4:12There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, in which we must be saved!"and there is not salvation in any other, for there is no other name under the heaven that hath been given among men, in which it behoveth us to be saved.`And in no other is the great salvation to be found; for, in fact, there is no second name under Heaven that has been given among men through which we are to be saved."
Acts 4:13Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and had perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled. They recognized that they had been with Jesus.And beholding the openness of Peter and John, and having perceived that they are men unlettered and plebeian, they were wondering they were taking knowledge also of them that with Jesus they had beenAs they looked on Peter and John so fearlessly outspoken and also discovered that they were illiterate persons, untrained in the schools they were surprised; and now they recognized them as having been with Jesus.
Acts 4:14Seeing the man who was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.and seeing the man standing with them who hath been healed, they had nothing to say against [it],And seeing the man standing with them the man who had been cured they had no reply to make.
Acts 4:15But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,and having commanded them to go away out of the sanhedrim, they took counsel with one another,So they ordered them to withdraw from the Sanhedrin while they conferred among themselves.
Acts 4:16saying, "What will we do to these men? Because indeed a notable miracle has been done through them, as can be plainly seen by all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we can't deny it.saying, `What shall we do to these men? because that, indeed, a notable sign hath been done through them, to all those dwelling in Jerusalem [is] manifest, and we are not able to deny [it];"What are we to do with these men?" they asked one another; for the fact that a remarkable miracle has been performed by them is well known to every one in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.
Acts 4:17But so that this spreads no further among the people, let's threaten them, that from now on they don't speak to anyone in this name."but that it may spread no further toward the people, let us strictly threaten them no more to speak in this name to any man.`But to prevent the matter spreading any further among the people, let us stop them by threats from speaking in the future in this name to any one whatever."
Acts 4:18They called them, and charged them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.And having called them, they charged them not to speak at all, nor to teach, in the name of Jesus,So they recalled the Apostles, and ordered them altogether to give up speaking or teaching in the name of Jesus.
Acts 4:19But Peter and John answered them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, judge for yourselves,and Peter and John answering unto them said, `Whether it is righteous before God to hearken to you rather than to God, judge ye;But Peter and John replied, "Judge whether it is right in God's sight to listen to you instead of listening to God.
Acts 4:20for we can't help telling the things which we saw and heard."for we cannot but speak what we did see and hear.`As for us, what we have seen and heard we cannot help speaking about."
Acts 4:21They, when they had further threatened them, let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people; for everyone glorified God for that which was done.And they having further threatened [them], let them go, finding nothing how they may punish them, because of the people, because all were glorifying God for that which hath been done,The Court added further threats and then let them go, being quite unable to find any way of punishing them on account of the people, because all gave God the glory for the thing that had happened.
Acts 4:22For the man was more than forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was performed.for above forty years of age was the man upon whom had been done this sign of the healing.For the man was over forty years of age on whom this miracle of restoration to health had been performed.
Acts 4:23Being let go, they came to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them.And being let go, they went unto their own friends, and declared whatever the chief priests and the elders said unto them,After their release the two Apostles went to their friends, and told them all that the High Priests and Elders had said.
Acts 4:24They, when they heard it, lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, "O Lord, you are God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them;and they having heard, with one accord did lift up the voice unto God, and said, `Lord, thou [art] God, who didst make the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and all that [are] in them,And they, upon hearing the story, all lifted up their voices to God and said, "O Sovereign Lord, it is Thou who didst make Heaven and earth and sea, and all that is in them,
Acts 4:25who by the mouth of your servant, David, said, 'Why do the nations rage, And the peoples plot a vain thing?who, through the mouth of David thy servant, did say, Why did nations rage, and peoples meditate vain things?and didst say through the Holy Spirit by the lips of our forefather David Thy servant, "`Why have the nations stamped and raged, and the peoples formed futile plans?
Acts 4:26The kings of the earth take a stand, And the rulers take council together, Against the Lord, and against his Christ.'the kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord and against His Christ;The kings of the earth came near, and the rulers assembled together against the Lord and against His Anointed.'"
Acts 4:27For truly, in this city against your holy servant, Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered togetherfor gathered together of a truth against Thy holy child Jesus, whom Thou didst anoint, were both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with nations and peoples of Israel,"They did indeed assemble in this city in hostility to Thy holy Servant Jesus whom Thou hadst anointed Herod and Pontius Pilate with the Gentiles and also the tribes of Israel
Acts 4:28to do whatever your hand and your council foreordained to happen.to do whatever Thy hand and Thy counsel did determine before to come to pass.to do all that Thy power and Thy will had predetermined should be done.
Acts 4:29Now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness,`And now, Lord, look upon their threatenings, and grant to Thy servants with all freedom to speak Thy word,And now, Lord, listen to their threats, and enable Thy servants to proclaim Thy Message with fearless courage,
Acts 4:30while you stretch forth your hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of your holy Servant Jesus."in the stretching forth of Thy hand, for healing, and signs, and wonders, to come to pass through the name of Thy holy child Jesus.`whilst Thou stretchest out Thine arm to cure men, and to give signs and marvels through the name of Thy holy Servant Jesus."
Acts 4:31When they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were gathered together. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.And they having prayed, the place was shaken in which they were gathered together, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and were speaking the word of God with freedom,When they had prayed, the place in which they were assembled shook, and they were, one and all, filled with the Holy Spirit, and proceeded to tell God's Message with boldness.
Acts 4:32The multitude of those who believed were of one heart and soul. Not one of them claimed that anything of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had all things common.and of the multitude of those who did believe the heart and the soul was one, and not one was saying that anything of the things he had was his own, but all things were to them in common.Among all those who had embraced the faith there was but one heart and soul, so that none of them claimed any of his possessions as his own, but everything they had was common property;
Acts 4:33With great power, the apostles gave their testimony of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Great grace was on them all.And with great power were the apostles giving the testimony to the rising again of the Lord Jesus, great grace also was on them all,while the Apostles with great force of conviction delivered their testimony as to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus; and great grace was upon them all.
Acts 4:34For neither was there among them any who lacked, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,for there was not any one among them who did lack, for as many as were possessors of fields, or houses, selling [them], were bringing the prices of the thing sold,And, in fact, there was not a needy man among them, for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the money which they realised,
Acts 4:35and laid them at the apostles' feet, and distribution was made to each, according as anyone had need.and were laying them at the feet of the apostles, and distribution was being made to each according as any one had need.and gave it to the Apostles, and distribution was made to every one according to his wants.
Acts 4:36Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas (which is, being interpreted, Son of Exhortation), a Levite, a man of Cyprus by race,And Joses, who was surnamed by the apostles Barnabas which is, having been interpreted, Son of Comfort a Levite, of Cyprus by birth,In this way Joseph, whom the Apostles gave the name of Bar-nabas signifying `Son of Encouragement' a Levite, a native of Cyprus,
Acts 4:37having a field, sold it, and brought the money and laid it at the apostles' feet.a field being his, having sold [it], brought the money and laid [it] at the feet of the apostles.sold a farm which he had, and brought the money and gave it to the Apostles.
