Matthew 25:1 | "Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. | `Then shall the reign of the heavens be likened to ten virgins, who, having taken their lamps, went forth to meet the bridegroom; | "Then will the Kingdom of the Heavens be found to be like ten bridesmaids who took their torches and went out to meet the bridegroom. |
Matthew 25:2 | Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. | and five of them were prudent, and five foolish; | Five of them were foolish and five were wise. |
Matthew 25:3 | Those who were foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them, | they who were foolish having taken their lamps, did not take with themselves oil; | For the foolish, when they took their torches, did not provide themselves with oil; |
Matthew 25:4 | but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. | and the prudent took oil in their vessels, with their lamps. | but the wise, besides their torches, took oil in their flasks. |
Matthew 25:5 | Now while the bridegroom delayed, they all slumbered and slept. | `And the bridegroom tarrying, they all nodded and were sleeping, | The bridegroom was a long time in coming, so that meanwhile they all became drowsy and fell asleep. |
Matthew 25:6 | But at midnight there was a cry, 'Behold! The bridegroom is coming! Come out to meet him!' | and in the middle of the night a cry was made, Lo, the bridegroom doth come; go ye forth to meet him. | But at midnight there is a loud cry, "`The bridegroom! Go out and meet him!' |
Matthew 25:7 | Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. | `Then rose all those virgins, and trimmed their lamps, | "Then all those bridesmaids roused themselves and trimmed their torches. |
Matthew 25:8 | The foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' | and the foolish said to the prudent, Give us of your oil, because our lamps are going out; | "`Give us some of your oil,' said the foolish ones to the wise, `for our torches are going out.' |
Matthew 25:9 | But the wise answered, saying, 'What if there will not be enough for us and you? You go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.' | and the prudent answered, saying Lest there may not be sufficient for us and you, go ye rather unto those selling, and buy for yourselves. | "`But perhaps,' replied the wise, `there will not be enough for all of us. Go to the shops rather, and buy some for yourselves.' |
Matthew 25:10 | While they went away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. | `And while they are going away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those ready went in with him to the marriage-feasts, and the door was shut; | "So they went to buy. But meanwhile the bridegroom came; those bridesmaids who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet; and the door was shut. |
Matthew 25:11 | Afterward the other virgins also came, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us.' | and afterwards come also do the rest of the virgins, saying, Sir, sir, open to us; | "Afterwards the other bridesmaids came and cried, "`Sir, Sir, open the door to us.' |
Matthew 25:12 | But he answered, 'Most assuredly I tell you, I don't know you.' | and he answering said, Verily I say to you, I have not known you. | "`In solemn truth I tell you,' he replied, `I do not know you.' |
Matthew 25:13 | Watch therefore, for you don't know the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming. | `Watch therefore, for ye have not known the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man doth come. | "Keep awake therefore; for you know neither the day nor the hour. |
Matthew 25:14 | "For it is like a man, going into another country, who called his own servants, and delivered his goods to them. | `For as a man going abroad did call his own servants, and did deliver to them his substance, | "Why, it is like a man who, when going on his travels, called his bondservants and entrusted his property to their care. |
Matthew 25:15 | To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to each according to his own ability, and he went on his journey. | and to one he gave five talents, and to another two, and to another one, to each according to his several ability, went abroad immediately. | To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one to each according to his individual capacity; and then started from home. |
Matthew 25:16 | Immediately he who received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. | `And he who did receive the five talents, having gone, wrought with them, and made other five talents; | Without delay the one who had received the five talents went and employed them in business, and gained five more. |
Matthew 25:17 | In like manner he also who got the two gained another two. | in like manner also he who [received] the two, he gained, also he, other two; | In the same way he who had the two gained two more. |
Matthew 25:18 | But he who received the one went away and dug in the earth, and hid his lord's money. | and he who did receive the one, having gone away, digged in the earth, and hid his lord`s money. | But the man who had received the one went and dug a hole and buried his master's money. |
Matthew 25:19 | Now after a long time the lord of those servants came, and reconciled accounts with them. | `And after a long time cometh the lord of those servants, and taketh reckoning with them; | "After a long lapse of time the master of those servants returned, and had a reckoning with them. |
Matthew 25:20 | He who received the five talents came and brought another five talents, saying, 'Lord, you delivered to me five talents. Behold, I have gained another five talents besides them.' | and he who did receive the five talents having come, brought other five talents, saying, `Sir, five talents thou didst deliver to me; lo, other five talents did I gain besides them. | The one who had received the five talents came and brought five more, and said, "`Sir, it was five talents that you entrusted to me: see, I have gained five more.' |
Matthew 25:21 | His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things, I will set you over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.' | `And his lord said to him, Well done, servant, good and faithful, over a few things thou wast faithful, over many things I will set thee; enter into the joy of thy lord. | "`You have done well, good and trustworthy servant,' replied his master; `you have been trustworthy in the management of a little, I will put you in charge of much: share your master's joy.' |
Matthew 25:22 | He also who got the two talents came and said, 'Lord, you delivered to me two talents. Behold, I have gained another two talents besides them.' | `And he who also did receive the two talents having come, said, Sir, two talents thou didst deliver to me; lo, other two talents I did gain besides them. | "The second, who had received the two talents, came and said, "`Sir, it was two talents you entrusted to me: see, I have gained two more.' |
Matthew 25:23 | His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things, I will set you over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.' | `His lord said to him, Well done, servant, good and faithful, over a few things thou wast faithful, over many things I will set thee; enter into the joy of thy lord. | "`Good and trustworthy servant, you have done well,' his master replied; `you have been trustworthy in the management of a little, I will put you in charge of much: share your master's joy.' |
Matthew 25:24 | He also who had received the one talent came and said, 'Lord, I knew you that you are a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not scatter. | `And he also who hath received the one talent having come, said, Sir, I knew thee, that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou didst not sow, and gathering from whence thou didst not scatter; | "But, next, the man who had the one talent in his keeping came and said, "`Sir, I knew you to be a severe man, reaping where you had not sown and garnering what you had not winnowed. |
Matthew 25:25 | I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the earth. Behold, you have your own.' | and having been afraid, having gone away, I hid thy talent in the earth; lo, thou hast thine own! | So being afraid I went and buried your talent in the ground: there you have what belongs to you.' |
Matthew 25:26 | But his lord answered him, 'You wicked and slothful servant. You knew that I reap where I didn't sow, and gather where I didn't scatter. | `And his lord answering said to him, Evil servant, and slothful, thou hadst known that I reap where I did not sow, and I gather whence I did not scatter! | "`You wicked and slothful servant,' replied his master, `did you know that I reap where I have not sown, and garner what I have not winnowed? |
Matthew 25:27 | You ought therefore to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received back my own with interest. | it behoved thee then to put my money to the money-lenders, and having come I had received mine own with increase. | Your duty then was to deposit my money in some bank, and so when I came I should have got back my property with interest. |
Matthew 25:28 | Take away therefore the talent from him, and give it to him who has the ten talents. | `Take therefore from him the talent, and give to him having the ten talents, | So take away the talent from him, and give it to the man who has the ten.' |
Matthew 25:29 | For to everyone who has will be given, and he will have abundance, but from him who has not, even that which he has will be taken away. | for to every one having shall be given, and he shall have overabundance, and from him who is not having, even that which he hath shall be taken from him; | (For to every one who has, more shall be given, and he shall have abundance; but from him who has nothing, even what he has shall be taken away.) |
Matthew 25:30 | Throw out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness; there will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.' | and the unprofitable servant cast ye forth to the outer darkness; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth. | `But as for this worthless servant, put him out into the darkness outside: *there* will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.' |
Matthew 25:31 | "But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then will he sit on the throne of his glory. | `And whenever the Son of Man may come in his glory, and all the holy messengers with him, then he shall sit upon a throne of his glory; | "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then will He sit upon His glorious throne, |
Matthew 25:32 | Before him all the nations will be gathered, and he will separate them one from another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. | and gathered together before him shall be all the nations, and he shall separate them from one another, as the shepherd doth separate the sheep from the goats, | and all the nations will be gathered into His presence. And He will separate them from one another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; |
Matthew 25:33 | He will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. | and he shall set the sheep indeed on his right hand, and the goats on the left. | and will make the sheep stand at His right hand, and the goats at His left. |
Matthew 25:34 | Then the King will tell them on his right hand, 'Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; | `Then shall the king say to those on his right hand, Come ye, the blessed of my Father, inherit the reign that hath been prepared for you from the foundation of the world; | "Then the King will say to those at His right, "`Come, my Father's blessed ones, receive your inheritance of the Kingdom which has been divinely intended for you ever since the creation of the world. |
Matthew 25:35 | for I was hungry, and you gave me food to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in; | for I did hunger, and ye gave me to eat; I did thirst, and ye gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and ye received me; | For when I was hungry, you gave me food; when I was thirsty, you gave me drink; when I was homeless, you gave me a welcome; |
Matthew 25:36 | naked, and you clothed me; I was sick, and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me.' | naked, and ye put around me; I was infirm, and ye looked after me; in prison I was, and ye came unto me. | when I was ill-clad, you clothed me; when I was sick, you visited me; when I was in prison, you came to see me.' |
Matthew 25:37 | Then the righteous will answer him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you; or thirsty, and give you a drink? | `Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungering, and we nourished? or thirsting, and we gave to drink? | "`When, Lord,' the righteous will reply, `did we see Thee hungry, and feed Thee; or thirsty, and give Thee drink? |
Matthew 25:38 | When did we see you as a stranger, and take you in; or naked, and clothe you? | and when did we see thee a stranger, and we received? or naked, and we put around? | When did we see Thee homeless, and give Thee a welcome? or ill-clad, and clothe Thee? |
Matthew 25:39 | When did we see you sick, or in prison, and come to you?' | and when did we see thee infirm, or in prison, and we came unto thee? | When did we see Thee sick or in prison, and come to see Thee?' |
Matthew 25:40 | The King will answer them, 'Most assuredly I tell you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.' | `And the king answering, shall say to them, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as ye did [it] to one of these my brethren the least to me ye did [it]. | "But the King will answer them, "`In solemn truth I tell you that in so far as you rendered such services to one of the humblest of these my brethren, you rendered them to myself.' |
Matthew 25:41 | Then will he say also to them on the left hand, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels; | Then shall he say also to those on the left hand, Go ye from me, the cursed, to the fire, the age-during, that hath been prepared for the Devil and his messengers; | "Then will He say to those at His left, "`Begone from me, with the curse resting upon you, into the Fire of the Ages, which has been prepared for the Devil and his angels. |
Matthew 25:42 | for I was hungry, and you didn't give me food to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink; | for I did hunger, and ye gave me not to eat; I did thirst, and ye gave me not to drink; | For when I was hungry, you gave me nothing to eat; when thirsty, you gave me nothing to drink; |
Matthew 25:43 | I was a stranger, and you didn't take me in; naked, and you didn't clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you didn't visit me.' | a stranger I was, and ye did not receive me; naked, and ye put not around me; infirm, and in prison, and ye did not look after me. | when homeless, you gave me no welcome; ill-clad, you clothed me not; sick or in prison, you visited me not.' |
Matthew 25:44 | Then will they also answer, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not help you?' | `Then shall they answer, they also, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungering, or thirsting, or a stranger, or naked, or infirm, or in prison, and we did not minister to thee? | "Then will they also answer, "`Lord, when did we see Thee hungry or thirsty or homeless or ill-clad or sick or in prison, and not come to serve Thee?' |
Matthew 25:45 | Then will he answer them, saying, 'Most assuredly I tell you, inasmuch as you didn't do it to one of these least, you didn't do it to me.' | `Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as ye did [it] not to one of these, the least, ye did [it] not to me. | "But he will reply, "`In solemn truth I tell you that in so far as you withheld such services from one of the humblest of these, you withheld them from me.' |
Matthew 25:46 | These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." | And these shall go away to punishment age-during, but the righteous to life age-during.` | "And these shall go away into the Punishment of the Ages, but the righteous into the Life of the Ages." |
