Romans 3:1Then what advantage does the Jew have? Or what is the profit of circumcision?What, then, [is] the superiority of the Jew? or what the profit of the circumcision?What special privilege, then, has a Jew? Or what benefit is to be derived from circumcision?
Romans 3:2Much in every way! Because first of all, that they were entrusted with the oracles of God.much in every way; for first, indeed, that they were intrusted with the oracles of God;The privilege is great from every point of view. First of all, because the Jews were entrusted with God's truth.
Romans 3:3For what if some were without faith? Will their lack of faith make of no effect the faithfulness of God?for what, if certain were faithless? shall their faithlessness the faithfulness of god make useless?For what if some Jews have proved unfaithful? Shall their faithlessness render God's faithfulness worthless?
Romans 3:4Certainly not! Yes, let God be found true, but every man a liar. As it is written, "That you might be justified in your words, And might prevail when you come into judgment."let it not be! and let God become true, and every man false, according as it hath been written, `That Thou mayest be declared righteous in Thy words, and mayest overcome in Thy being judged.`No, indeed; let us hold God to be true, though every man should prove to be false. As it stands written, "That Thou mayest be shown to be just in the sentence Thou pronouncest, and gain Thy cause when Thou contendest."
Romans 3:5But if our unrighteousness commends the righteousness of God, what will we say? Is God unrighteous who inflicts wrath? I speak like men do.And, if our unrighteousness God`s righteousness doth establish, what shall we say? is God unrighteous who is inflicting the wrath? (after the manner of a man I speak)But if our unrighteousness sets God's righteousness in a clearer light, what shall we say? (Is God unrighteous I speak in our everyday language when He inflicts punishment?
Romans 3:6Certainly not! For then how will God judge the world?let it not be! since how shall God judge the world?No indeed; for in that case how shall He judge all mankind?)
Romans 3:7For if the truth of God through my lie abounded to his glory, why am I also still judged as a sinner?for if the truth of God in my falsehood did more abound to His glory, why yet am I also as a sinner judged?If, for instance, a falsehood of mine has made God's truthfulness more conspicuous, redounding to His glory, why am I judged all the same as a sinner?
Romans 3:8Why not (as we are slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say), "Let us do evil, that good may come?" Those who say so are justly condemned.and not, as we are evil spoken of, and as certain affirm us to say `We may do the evil things, that the good ones may come?` whose judgment is righteous.And why should we not say for so they wickedly misrepresent us, and so some charge us with arguing "Let us do evil that good may come"? The condemnation of those who would so argue is just.
Romans 3:9What then? Are we better than they? No, in no way. For we previously charged both Jews and Greeks, that they are all under sin.What, then? are we better? not at all! for we did before charge both Jews and Greeks with being all under sin,What then? Are we Jews more highly estimated than they? Not in the least; for we have already charged all Jews and Gentiles alike with being in thraldom to sin.
Romans 3:10As it is written, "There is no one righteous. No, not one.according as it hath been written `There is none righteous, not even one;Thus it stands written, "There is not one righteous man.
Romans 3:11There is no one who understands. There is no one who seeks after God.There is none who is understanding, there is none who is seeking after God.There is not one who is really wise, nor one who is a diligent seeker after God.
Romans 3:12They have all turned aside. They have together become unprofitable. There is no one who does good, no, not, so much as one."All did go out of the way, together they became unprofitable, there is none doing good, there is not even one.All have turned aside from the right path; they have every one of them become corrupt. There is no one who does what is right no, not so much as one."
Romans 3:13"Their throat is an open tomb. With their tongues they have used deceit." "The poison of vipers is under their lips;"A sepulchre opened [is] their throat; with their tongues they used deceit; poison of asps [is] under their lips."Their throats resemble an opened grave; with their tongues they have been talking deceitfully." "The venom of vipers lies hidden behind their lips."
Romans 3:14"Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness."Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness."Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness."
Romans 3:15"Their feet are swift to shed blood.Swift [are] their feet to shed blood."Their feet move swiftly to shed blood.
Romans 3:16Destruction and misery are in their ways.Ruin and misery [are] in their ways.Ruin and misery mark their path;
Romans 3:17The way of peace, they haven't known."And a way of peace they did not know.and the way to peace they have not known."
Romans 3:18"There is no fear of God before their eyes."There is no fear of God before their eyes.`"There is no fear of God before their eyes."
Romans 3:19Now we know that whatever things the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be closed, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God.And we have known that as many things as the law saith, to those in the law it doth speak, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may come under judgment to God;But it cannot be denied that all that the Law says is addressed to those who are living under the Law, in order that every mouth may be stopped, and that the whole world may await sentence from God.
Romans 3:20Because by the works of the law, no flesh will be justified in his sight. For through the law comes the knowledge of sin.wherefore by works of law shall no flesh be declared righteous before Him, for through law is a knowledge of sin.For on the ground of obedience to Law no man living will be declared righteous before Him. Law simply brings a sure knowledge of sin.
Romans 3:21But now apart from the law, a righteousness of God has been revealed, being testified by the law and the prophets;And now apart from law hath the righteousness of God been manifested, testified to by the law and the prophets,But now a righteousness coming from God has been brought to light apart from any Law, both Law and Prophets bearing witness to it
Romans 3:22even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ to all and on all those who believe. For there is no distinction,and the righteousness of God [is] through the faith of Jesus Christ to all, and upon all those believing, for there is no difference,a righteousness coming from God, which depends on faith in Jesus Christ and extends to all who believe. No distinction is made;
Romans 3:23for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God;for all did sin, and are come short of the glory of Godfor all alike have sinned, and all consciously come short of the glory of God,
Romans 3:24being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus;being declared righteous freely by His grace through the redemption that [is] in Christ Jesus,gaining acquittal from guilt by His free unpurchased grace through the deliverance which is found in Christ Jesus.
Romans 3:25whom God set forth to be an atoning sacrifice, through faith, in his blood, to show his righteousness because of the passing over of the sins done before, in the forbearance of God;whom God did set forth a mercy seat, through the faith in his blood, for the shewing forth of His righteousness, because of the passing over of the bygone sins in the forbearance of GodHe it is whom God put forward as a Mercy-seat, rendered efficacious through faith in His blood, in order to demonstrate His righteousness because of the passing over, in God's forbearance, of the sins previously committed
Romans 3:26for the showing of his righteousness at this present time; that he might himself be just, and the justifier of him who has faith in Jesus.for the shewing forth of His righteousness in the present time, for His being righteous, and declaring him righteous who [is] of the faith of Jesus.with a view to demonstrating, at the present time, His righteousness, that He may be shown to be righteous Himself, and the giver of righteousness to those who believe in Jesus.
Romans 3:27Where then is the boasting? It is excluded. By what manner of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith.Where then [is] the boasting? it was excluded; by what law? of works? no, but by a law of faith:Where then is there room for your boasting? It is for ever shut out. On what principle? On the ground of merit? No, but on the ground of faith.
Romans 3:28We maintain therefore that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.therefore do we reckon a man to be declared righteous by faith, apart from works of law.For we maintain that it is as the result of faith that a man is held to be righteous, apart from actions done in obedience to Law.
Romans 3:29Or is God the God of Jews only? Isn't he the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also,The God of Jews only [is He], and not also of nations?Is God simply the God of the Jews, and not of the Gentiles also? He is certainly the God of the Gentiles also,
Romans 3:30if it is so that God is one. He will justify the circumcised by faith, and the uncircumcised through faith.yes, also of nations; since one [is] God who shall declare righteous the circumcision by faith, and the uncircumcision through the faith.unless you can deny that it is one and the same God who will pronounce the circumcised to be acquitted on the ground of faith, and the uncircumcised to be acquitted through the same faith.
Romans 3:31Do we then make the law of no effect through faith? Certainly not! No, we establish the law.Law then do we make useless through the faith? let it not be! yea, we do establish law.Do we then by means of this faith abolish the Law? No, indeed; we give the Law a firmer footing.
