2nd-Kings 14:1 | In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel reigned hath Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah; | In the second year of Joash son of Joahaz king of Israel began Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah to reign. | In the second year of Joash, son of Joahaz, king of Israel, Amaziah, the son of Joash, became king of Judah. |
2nd-Kings 14:2 | a son of twenty and five years was he in his reigning, and twenty and nine years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [is] Jehoaddan of Jerusalem, | He was twenty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Jehoaddin of Jerusalem. | He was twenty-five years old when he became king; and he was ruling in Jerusalem for twenty-nine years; his mother's name was Jehoaddin of Jerusalem. |
2nd-Kings 14:3 | and he doth that which [is] right in the eyes of Jehovah, only not like David his father, according to all that Joash his father did he hath done, | And he did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, yet not like David his father: he did according to all that Joash his father had done. | He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, though not like David his father; he did as Joash his father had done. |
2nd-Kings 14:4 | only, the high places have not turned aside yet are the people sacrificing and making perfume in high places. | Howbeit the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places. | But still the high places were not taken away; the people went on making offerings and burning them in the high places. |
2nd-Kings 14:5 | And it cometh to pass, when the kingdom hath been strong in his hand, that he smiteth his servants, those smiting the king his father, | And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was established in his hand, that he slew his servants who had slain the king his father: | Now when he became strong in the kingdom, straight away he put to death those servants who had taken the life of the king his father; |
2nd-Kings 14:6 | and the sons of those smiting [him] he hath not put to death, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses that Jehovah commanded, saying, `Fathers are not put to death for sons, and sons are not put to death for fathers, but each for his own sin is put to death.` | but the children of the murderers he put not to death; according to that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, as Jehovah commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin. | But he did not put their children to death; for the orders of the Lord recorded in the book of the law of Moses say, The fathers are not to be put to death for the children, or the children for their fathers; but a man is to be put to death for the sin which he himself has done. |
2nd-Kings 14:7 | He hath smitten Edom, in the valley of salt ten thousand, and seized Selah in war, and [one] calleth its name Joktheel unto this day, | He slew of Edom in the Valley of Salt ten thousand, and took Sela by war, and called the name of it Joktheel, unto this day. | He put to the sword twelve thousand men of Edom in the Valley of Salt, and took Sela in war, naming it Joktheel, as it is to this day. |
2nd-Kings 14:8 | then hath Amaziah sent messengers unto Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, `Come, we look one another in the face.` | Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face. | Then Amaziah sent representatives to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us have a meeting face to face. |
2nd-Kings 14:9 | And Jehoash king of Israel sendeth unto Amaziah king of Judah, saying, `The thorn that [is] in Lebanon hath sent unto the cedar that [is] in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son for a wife; and pass by doth a beast of the field that [is] in Lebanon, and treadeth down the thorn. | And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trod down the thistle. | And Jehoash, king of Israel, sent to Amaziah, king of Judah, saying, The thorn-tree in Lebanon sent to the cedar in Lebanon, saying, Give your daughter to my son for a wife: and a beast from the woodland in Lebanon went by, crushing the thorn under his feet. |
2nd-Kings 14:10 | Thou hast certainly smitten Edom, and thy heart hath lifted thee up; be honoured, and abide in thy house; and why dost thou stir thyself up in evil, that thou hast fallen, thou, and Judah with thee?` | Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thy heart hath lifted thee up: glory thereof, and abide at home; for why shouldest thou meddle to [thy] hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee? | It is true that you have overcome Edom and your heart is uplifted; let that glory be enough for you, and keep in your country; why do you make causes of trouble, putting yourself, and Judah with you, in danger of downfall? |
2nd-Kings 14:11 | And Amaziah hath not hearkened, and go up doth Jehoash king of Israel, and they look one another in the face, he and Amaziah king of Judah, in Beth-Shemesh, that [is] Judah`s, | But Amaziah would not hear. So Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah. | But Amaziah gave no attention. So Jehoash, king of Israel, went up, and he and Amaziah, king of Judah, came face to face at Beth-shemesh, which is in Judah. |

2nd-Kings 14:16 | And Jehoash lieth with his fathers, and is buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel, and reign doth Jeroboam his son in his stead. | And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead. | And Jehoash went to rest with his fathers, and was put into the earth in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son became king in his place. |
2nd-Kings 14:17 | And Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah liveth after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years, | And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years. | Amaziah, the son of Joash, king of Judah, went on living for fifteen years after the death of Jehoash, son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel. |
2nd-Kings 14:18 | and the rest of the matters of Amaziah are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Judah? | Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? | And the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not recorded in the book of the history of the kings of Judah? |

2nd-Kings 14:21 | And all the people of Judah take Azariah, and he [is] a son of sixteen years, and cause him to reign instead of his father Amaziah; | And all the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah. | Then all the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his father Amaziah. |

2nd-Kings 14:25 | He hath brought back the border of Israel, from the entering in of Hamath unto the sea of the desert, according to the word of Jehovah, God of Israel, that He spake by the hand of His servant Jonah son of Amittai the prophet, who [is] of Gath-Hepher, | He restored the border of Israel from the entrance of Hamath unto the sea of the Arabah, according to the word of Jehovah, the God of Israel, which he spake by his servant Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet, who was of Gath-hepher. | He got back the old limits of Israel from the way into Hamath to the sea of the Arabah, as the Lord had said by his servant Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet of Gath-hepher. |
2nd-Kings 14:26 | for Jehovah hath seen the affliction of Israel very bitter, and there is none restrained, and there is none left, and there is no helper to Israel; | For Jehovah saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter; for there was none shut up nor left at large, neither was there any helper for Israel. | For the Lord saw how bitter was the trouble of Israel, and that everyone was cut off, he who was shut up and he who went free, and that Israel had no helper. |
2nd-Kings 14:27 | and Jehovah hath not spoken to blot out the name of Israel from under the heavens, and saveth them by the hand of Jeroboam son of Joash. | And Jehovah said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven; but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash. | And the Lord had not said that the name of Israel was to be taken away from the earth; but he gave them a saviour in Jeroboam, the son of Joash. |
