| James 4:1 | Whence [are] wars and fightings among you? not thence out of your passions, that are as soldiers in your members? | What is the cause of wars and fighting among you? is it not in your desires which are at war in your bodies? | Whence [come] wars and whence fightings among you? [Is it] not thence, from your pleasures, which war in your members? |
| James 4:2 | ye desire, and ye have not; ye murder, and are zealous, and are not able to attain; ye fight and war, and ye have not, because of your not asking; | You are burning with desire, and have not your desire, so you put men to death; you are full of envy, and you are not able to get your desire, so you are fighting and making war; you have not your desire, because you do not make request for it. | Ye lust and have not: ye kill and are full of envy, and cannot obtain; ye fight and war; ye have not because ye ask not. |
| James 4:3 | ye ask, and ye receive not, because evilly ye ask, that in your pleasures ye may spend [it]. | You make your request but you do not get it, because your request has been wrongly made, desiring the thing only so that you may make use of it for your pleasure. | Ye ask and receive not, because ye ask evilly, that ye may consume [it] in your pleasures. |

Whoever therefore is minded to be [the] friend of the world is constituted enemy of God. |

Does the Spirit which has taken his abode in us desire enviously? |
| James 4:6 | and greater grace he doth give, wherefore he saith, `God against proud ones doth set Himself up, and to lowly ones He doth give grace?` | But he gives more grace. So that the Writings say, God is against the men of pride, but he gives grace to those who make themselves low before him. | But he gives more grace. Wherefore he says, God sets himself against [the] proud, but gives grace to [the] lowly. |

| James 4:14 | who do not know the thing of the morrow; for what is your life? for it is a vapour that is appearing for a little, and then is vanishing; | When you are not certain what will take place tomorrow. What is your life? It is a mist, which is seen for a little time and then is gone. | ye who do not know what will be on the morrow, ([for] what [is] your life?
