John 19:1Then, therefore, did Pilate take Jesus and scourge [him],Then Pilate took Jesus and had him whipped with cords.Then Pilate therefore took Jesus and scourged [him].
John 19:2and the soldiers having plaited a crown of thorns, did place [it] on his head, and a purple garment they put around him,And the men of the army made a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and they put a purple robe on him.And the soldiers having plaited a crown of thorns put it on his head, and put a purple robe on him,
John 19:3and said, `Hail! the king of the Jews;` and they were giving him slaps.And they kept coming and saying, Long life to the King of the Jews! And they gave him blows with their hands.and came to him and said, Hail, king of the Jews! and gave him blows on the face.
John 19:4Pilate, therefore, again went forth without, and saith to them, `Lo, I do bring him to you without, that ye may know that in him I find no fault;`And Pilate went out again and said to them, See, I let him come out to you to make it clear to you that I see no wrong in him.And Pilate went out again and says to them, Lo, I bring him out to you, that ye may know that I find in him no fault whatever.
John 19:5Jesus, therefore, came forth without, bearing the thorny crown and the purple garment; and he saith to them, `Lo, the man!`Then Jesus came out with the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And Pilate said to them, Here is the man!(Jesus therefore went forth without, wearing the crown of thorn, and the purple robe.) And he says to them, Behold the man!
John 19:6When, therefore, the chief priests and the officers did see him, they cried out, saying, `Crucify, crucify;` Pilate saith to them, `Take ye him ye, and crucify; for I find no fault in him;`So when the chief priests and the police saw him they gave a loud cry, To the cross! to the cross! Pilate said to them, Take him yourselves and put him on the cross: I see no crime in him.When therefore the chief priests and the officers saw him they cried out saying, Crucify, crucify [him]. Pilate says to them, Take him ye and crucify [him], for I find no fault in him.
John 19:7the Jews answered him, `We have a law, and according to our law he ought to die, for he made himself Son of God.`And the Jews made answer, We have a law, and by that law it is right for him to be put to death because he said he was the Son of God.The Jews answered him, We have a law, and according to [our] law he ought to die, because he made himself Son of God.
John 19:8When, therefore, Pilate heard this word, he was the more afraid,When this saying came to Pilate's ears his fear became greater;When Pilate therefore heard this word, he was the rather afraid,
John 19:9and entered again to the praetorium, and saith to Jesus, `Whence art thou?` and Jesus gave him no answer.And he went again into the Praetorium and said to Jesus, Where do you come from? But Jesus gave him no answer.and went into the praetorium again and says to Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.
John 19:10Pilate, therefore, saith to him, `To me dost thou not speak? hast thou not known that I have authority to crucify thee, and I have authority to release thee?`Then Pilate said to him, You say nothing to me? is it not clear to you that I have power to let you go free and power to put you to death on the cross?Pilate therefore says to him, Speakest thou not to *me*? Dost thou not know that I have authority to release thee and have authority to crucify thee?
John 19:11Jesus answered, `Thou wouldst have no authority against me, if it were not having been given thee from above; because of this, he who is delivering me up to thee hath greater sin.`Jesus gave this answer: You would have no power at all over me if it was not given to you by God; so that he who gave me up to you has the greater sin.Jesus answered, Thou hadst no authority whatever against me if it were not given to thee from above. On this account he that has delivered me up to thee has [the] greater sin.
John 19:12From this [time] was Pilate seeking to release him, and the Jews were crying out, saying, `If this one thou mayest release, thou art not a friend of Caesar; every one making himself a king, doth speak against Caesar.`Hearing this, Pilate had a desire to let him go free, but the Jews said in a loud voice, If you let this man go, you are not Caesar's friend: everyone who makes himself a king goes against Caesar.From this time Pilate sought to release him; but the Jews cried out saying, If thou releasest this [man], thou art not a friend to Caesar. Every one making himself a king speaks against Caesar.
John 19:13Pilate, therefore, having heard this word, brought Jesus without and he sat down upon the tribunal to a place called, `Pavement,` and in Hebrew, Gabbatha;So when these words came to Pilate's ear, he took Jesus out, seating himself in the judge's seat in a place named in Hebrew, Gabbatha, or the Stone Floor.Pilate therefore, having heard these words, led Jesus out and sat down upon [the] judgment-seat, at a place called Pavement, but in Hebrew Gabbatha;
John 19:14and it was the preparation of the passover, and as it were the sixth hour, and he saith to the Jews, `Lo, your king!`(It was the day when they made ready for the Passover; and it was about the sixth hour.) And he said to the Jews, There is your King!(now it was [the] preparation of the passover; it was about the sixth hour;) and he says to the Jews, Behold your king!
John 19:15and they cried out, `Take away, take away, crucify him;` Pilate saith to them, `Your king shall I crucify?` the chief priests answered, `We have no king except Caesar.`Then they gave a loud cry, Away with him! away with him! to the cross! Pilate said to them, Am I to put your King to death on the cross? The chief priests said in answer, We have no king but Caesar.But they cried out, Take [him] away, take [him] away, crucify him. Pilate says to them, Shall I crucify your king? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.
John 19:16Then, therefore, he delivered him up to them, that he may be crucified, and they took Jesus and led [him] away,So then he gave him up to them to be put to death on the cross. And they took Jesus away;Then therefore he delivered him up to them, that he might be crucified; and they took Jesus and led him away.
John 19:17and bearing his cross, he went forth to the place called [Place] of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew Golgotha;And he went out with his cross on him to the place which is named Dead Man's Head (in Hebrew, Golgotha):And he went out, bearing his cross, to the place called [place] of a skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha;
John 19:18where they crucified him, and with him two others, on this side, and on that side, and Jesus in the midst.Where they put him on the cross with two others, one on this side and one on that, and Jesus in the middle.where they crucified him, and with him two others, [one] on this side, and [one] on that, and Jesus in the middle.
John 19:19And Pilate also wrote a title, and put [it] on the cross, and it was written, `Jesus the Nazarene, the king of the Jews;`And Pilate put on the cross a statement in writing. The writing was: JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS.And Pilate wrote a title also and put it on the cross. But there was written: Jesus the Nazaraean, the King of the Jews.
John 19:20this title, therefore, read many of the Jews, because the place was nigh to the city where Jesus was crucified, and it was having been written in Hebrew, in Greek, in Roman.The writing was seen by a number of the Jews, for the place where Jesus was put to death on the cross was near the town; and the writing was in Hebrew and Latin and Greek.This title therefore many of the Jews read, for the place of the city where Jesus was crucified was near; and it was written in Hebrew, Greek, Latin.
John 19:21The chief priests of the Jews said, therefore, to Pilate, `Write not The king of the Jews, but that one said, I am king of the Jews;`Then the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, Do not put, The King of the Jews, but, He said, I am the King of the Jews.The chief priests of the Jews therefore said to Pilate, Do not write, The king of the Jews, but that *he* said, I am king of the Jews.
John 19:22Pilate answered, `What I have written, I have written.`But Pilate made answer, What I have put in writing will not be changed.Pilate answered, What I have written, I have written.
John 19:23The soldiers, therefore, when they did crucify Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to each soldier a part, also the coat, and the coat was seamless, from the top woven throughout,And when Jesus was nailed to the cross, the men of the army took his clothing, and made a division of it into four parts, to every man a part, and they took his coat: now the coat was without a join, made out of one bit of cloth.The soldiers therefore, when they had crucified Jesus, took his clothes, and made four parts, to each soldier a part, and the body-coat; but the body-coat was seamless, woven through the whole from the top.
John 19:24they said, therefore, to one another, `We may not rend it, but cast a lot for it, whose it shall be;` that the Writing might be fulfilled, that is saying, `They divided my garments to themselves, and upon my raiment they did cast a lot;` the soldiers, therefore, indeed, did these things.So they said among themselves, Let this not be cut up, but let us put it to the decision of chance and see who gets it. (They did this so that the Writings might come true, which say, They made a distribution of my clothing among them, and my coat they put to the decision of chance.) This was what the men of the army did.They said therefore to one another, Let us not rend it, but let us cast lots for it, whose it shall be; that the scripture might be fulfilled which says, They parted my garments among themselves, and on my vesture they cast lots. The soldiers therefore did these things.
John 19:25And there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother`s sister, Mary of Cleopas, and Mary the Magdalene;Now by the side of the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother's sister Mary, the wife of Cleopas, and Mary Magdalene.And by the cross of Jesus stood his mother, and the sister of his mother, Mary the [wife] of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala.
John 19:26Jesus, therefore, having seen [his] mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he was loving, he saith to his mother, `Woman, lo, thy son;`So when Jesus saw his mother and the disciple who was dear to him, he said to his mother, Mother, there is your son!Jesus therefore, seeing his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, says to his mother, Woman, behold thy son.
John 19:27afterward he saith to the disciple, `Lo, thy mother;` and from that hour the disciple took her to his own [home].Then he said to the disciple, There is your mother! And from that hour the disciple took her to his house.Then he says unto the disciple, Behold thy mother. And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.
John 19:28After this, Jesus knowing that all things now have been finished, that the Writing may be fulfilled, saith, `I thirst;`After this, being conscious that all things had now been done so that the Writings might come true, Jesus said, Give me water.After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now finished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, says, I thirst.
John 19:29a vessel, therefore, was placed full of vinegar, and they having filled a sponge with vinegar, and having put [it] around a hyssop stalk, did put [it] to his mouth;Now there was a vessel ready, full of bitter wine, and they put a sponge full of it on a stick and put it to his mouth.There was a vessel therefore there full of vinegar, and having filled a sponge with vinegar, and putting hyssop round it, they put it up to his mouth.
John 19:30when, therefore, Jesus received the vinegar, he said, `It hath been finished;` and having bowed the head, gave up the spirit.So when Jesus had taken the wine he said, All is done. And with his head bent he gave up his spirit.When therefore Jesus had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished; and having bowed his head, he delivered up his spirit.
John 19:31The Jews, therefore, that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the sabbath, since it was the preparation, (for that sabbath day was a great one,) asked of Pilate that their legs may be broken, and they taken away.Now it was the day of getting ready for the Passover, and so that the bodies might not be on the cross on the Sabbath (because the day of that Sabbath was a great day), the Jews made a request to Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.The Jews therefore, that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the sabbath, for it was [the] preparation, (for the day of that sabbath was a great [day],) demanded of Pilate that their legs might be broken and they taken away.
John 19:32The soldiers, therefore, came, and of the first indeed they did break the legs, and of the other who was crucified with him,So the men of the army came, and the legs of the first were broken and then of the other who was put to death on the cross with Jesus:The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first and of the other that had been crucified with him;
John 19:33and having come to Jesus, when they saw him already having been dead, they did not break his legs;But when they came to Jesus, they saw that he was dead by this time, and so his legs were not broken;but coming to Jesus, when they saw that he was already dead they did not break his legs,
John 19:34but one of the soldiers with a spear did pierce his side, and immediately there came forth blood and water;But one of the men made a wound in his side with a spear, and straight away there came out blood and water.but one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately there came out blood and water.
John 19:35and he who hath seen hath testified, and his testimony is true, and that one hath known that true things he speaketh, that ye also may believe.And he who saw it has given witness (and his witness is true; he is certain that what he says is true) so that you may have belief.And he who saw it bears witness, and his witness is true, and he knows that he says true that ye also may believe.
John 19:36For these things came to pass, that the Writing may be fulfilled, `A bone of him shall not be broken;`These things came about so that the Writings might be true, No bone of his body will be broken.For these things took place that the scripture might be fulfilled, Not a bone of him shall be broken.
John 19:37and again another Writing saith, `They shall look to him whom they did pierce.`And again another verse says, They will see him who was wounded by their spears.And again another scripture says, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
John 19:38And after these things did Joseph of Arimathea being a disciple of Jesus, but concealed, through the fear of the Jews ask of Pilate, that he may take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave leave; he came, therefore, and took away the body of Jesus,After these things, Joseph of Arimathaea, who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, made a request to Pilate to let him take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate said he might do so. So he went and took away his body.And after these things Joseph of Arimathaea, who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly through fear of the Jews, demanded of Pilate that he might take the body of Jesus: and Pilate allowed it. He came therefore and took away the body of Jesus.
John 19:39and Nicodemus also came who came unto Jesus by night at the first bearing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, as it were, a hundred pounds.And Nicodemus came (he who had first come to Jesus by night) with a roll of myrrh and aloes mixed, about a hundred pounds.And Nicodemus also, who at first came to Jesus by night, came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds [weight].
John 19:40They took, therefore, the body of Jesus, and bound it with linen clothes with the spices, according as it was the custom of the Jews to prepare for burial;Then they took the body of Jesus, folding linen about it with the spices, as is the way of the Jews when they put the dead to rest.They took therefore the body of Jesus and bound it up in linen with the spices, as it is the custom with the Jews to prepare for burial.
John 19:41and there was in the place where he was crucified a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one was yet laid;Now there was a garden near the cross, and in the garden a new place for the dead in which no man had ever been put.But there was in the place where he had been crucified a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had ever been laid.
John 19:42there, therefore, because of the preparation of the Jews, because the tomb was nigh, they laid Jesus.So they put Jesus there, because it was the Jews' day of getting ready for the Passover, and the place was near.There therefore, on account of the preparation of the Jews, because the tomb was near, they laid Jesus.
