1st-Kings 5:1 | And Hiram king of Tyre sendeth his servants unto Solomon, for he heard that they had anointed him for king instead of his father, for Hiram was a lover of David all the days; | Now Hiram, king of Tyre, hearing that Solomon had been made king in place of his father, sent his servants to him; for Hiram had ever been a friend to David. | And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon: for he heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father: for Hiram had always been David's friend. |
1st-Kings 5:2 | and Solomon sendeth unto Hiram, saying, | And Solomon sent back word to Hiram, saying, | And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying: |
1st-Kings 5:3 | `Thou hast known David my father, that he hath not been able to build a house to the name of Jehovah his God, because of the wars that have been round about him, till Jehovah`s putting them under the soles of his feet. | You have knowledge that David my father was not able to make a house for the name of the Lord his God, because of the wars which were round him on every side, till the Lord put all those who were against him under his feet. | Thou knowest the will of David my father, and that he could not build a house to the name of the Lord his God, because of the wars that were round about him, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet. |
1st-Kings 5:4 | `And now, Jehovah my God hath given rest to me round about, there is no adversary nor evil occurrence, | But now the Lord my God has given me rest on every side; no one is making trouble, and no evil is taking place. | But now the Lord my God hath given me rest round about: and there is no adversary nor evil occurrence. |
1st-Kings 5:5 | and lo, I am saying to build a house to the name of Jehovah my God, as Jehovah spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son whom I appoint in thy stead on thy throne, he doth build the house for My name. | And so it is my purpose to make a house for the name of the Lord my God, as he said to David my father, Your son, whom I will make king in your place, will be the builder of a house for my name. | Wherefore I purpose to build a temple to the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord spoke to David my father, saying: my son, whom I will set upon the throne in thy piece, he shall build a house to my name. |
1st-Kings 5:6 | `And now, command, and they cut down for me cedars out of Lebanon, and my servants are with thy servants, and the hire of thy servants I give to thee according to all that thou sayest, for thou hast known that there is not among us a man acquainted with cutting wood, like the Sidonians.` | So now, will you have cedar-trees from Lebanon cut down for me, and my servants will be with your servants; and I will give you payment for your servants at whatever rate you say; for it is common knowledge that we have no such wood-cutters among us as the men of Zidon. | Give orders therefore that thy servants cut me down cedar trees out of Libanus, and let my servants be with thy servants: and I will give thee the hire of thy servants whatsoever thou wilt ask, for thou knowest how there is not among my people a man that has skill to hew wood like to the Sidonians. |
1st-Kings 5:7 | And it cometh to pass at Hiram`s hearing the words of Solomon, that he rejoiceth exceedingly, and saith, `Blessed [is] Jehovah to-day, who hath given to David a wise son over this numerous people.` | And these words of Solomon made Hiram glad, and he said, Now may the Lord be praised who has given to David a wise son to be king over this great people. | Now when Hiram had heard the words of Solomon, he rejoiced exceedingly, and said: Blessed be the Lord God this day, who hath given to David a very wise son over this numerous people. |
1st-Kings 5:8 | And Hiram sendeth unto Solomon, saying, I have heard that which thou hast sent unto me, I do all thy desire concerning cedar-wood, and fir-wood, | Then Hiram sent to Solomon, saying; The words you sent have been given to me: I will do all your desire in the question of cedar-wood and cypress-wood. | And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying: I have heard all thou hast desired of me: and I will do all thy desire concerning cedar trees, and fir trees. |
1st-Kings 5:9 | my servants bring down from Lebanon to the sea, and I make them floats in the sea unto the place that thou sendest unto me, and I have spread them out there; and thou dost take [them] up, and thou dost execute my desire, to give the food of my house.` | My men will take them down from Lebanon to the sea, where I will have them corded together to go by sea to whatever place you say, and I will have them cut up there so that you may take them away; as for payment, it will be enough if you give me food for my people. | My servants shall bring them down from Libanus to the sea: and I will put them together in floats in the sea, and convey them to the place, which thou shalt signify to me; and will land them there, and thou shalt receive them: and thou shalt allow me necessaries, to furnish food for my household. |
1st-Kings 5:10 | And Hiram is giving to Solomon cedar-trees, and fir-trees, all his desire, | So Hiram gave Solomon all the cedar-wood and cypress-wood he had need of; | So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees, and fir trees, according to all his desire. |
1st-Kings 5:11 | and Solomon hath given to Hiram twenty thousand cors of wheat, food for his house, and twenty cors of beaten oil; thus doth Solomon give to Hiram year by year. | And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of grain, as food for his people, and twenty measures of clear oil; this he did every year. | And Solomon allowed Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat, for provision for his house, and twenty measures of the purest oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram every year. |
1st-Kings 5:12 | And Jehovah hath given wisdom to Solomon as He spake to him, and there is peace between Hiram and Solomon, and they make a covenant both of them. | Now the Lord had given Solomon wisdom, as he had said to him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and they made an agreement together. | And the Lord gave wisdom to Solomon, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and they two made a league together. |
1st-Kings 5:13 | And king Solomon lifteth up a tribute out of all Israel, and the tribute is thirty thousand men, | Then King Solomon got together men for the forced work through all Israel, thirty thousand men in number; | And king Solomon chose workmen cut of all Israel, and the levy was of thirty thousand men. |
1st-Kings 5:14 | and he sendeth them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month, by changes, a month they are in Lebanon, two months in their own house; and Adoniram [is] over the tribute. | And sent them to Lebanon in bands of ten thousand every month: for a month they were working in Lebanon and for two months in their country, and Adoniram was in control of them. | And he sent them to Libanus, ten thousand every month by turns, so that two months they were at home: and Adoniram was over this levy. |
1st-Kings 5:15 | And king Solomon hath seventy thousand bearing burdens, and eighty thousand hewing in the mountain, | Then he had seventy thousand for the work of transport, and eighty thousand stone-cutters in the mountains; | And Solomon had seventy thousand to carry burdens, and eighty thousand to hew stones in the mountain: |
1st-Kings 5:16 | apart from the heads of the officers of Solomon, who [are] over the work, three thousand and three hundred, those ruling over the people who are working in the business. | In addition to the chiefs of the responsible men put by Solomon to oversee the work, three thousand and three hundred in authority over the workmen. | Besides the overseers who were over every work, in number three thousand, and three hundred that ruled over the people, and them that did the work. |
1st-Kings 5:17 | And the king commandeth, and they bring great stones, precious stone, to lay the foundation of the house, hewn stones; | By the king's orders great stones, stones of high price, were cut out, so that the base of the house might be made of squared stone. | And the king commanded, that they should bring great stones, costly stones, for the foundation of the temple, and should square them: |
1st-Kings 5:18 | and the builders of Solomon, and the builders of Hiram, and the Giblites hew, and prepare the wood and the stones to build the house. | Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders did the work of cutting them, and put edges on them, and got the wood and the stone ready for the building of the house. | And the masons of Solomon, and the masons of Hiram hewed them: and the Giblians prepared timber and stones to build the house. |
