John 16:1`These things I have spoken to you, that ye may not be stumbled,I have said these things to you so that you may not be in doubt. These things have I spoken to you, that you may not be scandalized.
John 16:2out of the synagogues they will put you; but an hour doth come, that every one who hath killed you, may think to offer service unto God;They will put you out of the Synagogues: yes, the time is coming when whoever puts you to death will have the belief that he is doing God's pleasure. They will put you out of the synagogues: yea, the hour cometh, that whosoever killeth you, will think that he doth a service to God.
John 16:3and these things they will do to you, because they did not know the Father, nor me.They will do these things to you because they have not had knowledge of the Father or of me.And these things will they do to you; because they have not known the Father, nor me.
John 16:4`But these things I have spoken to you, that when the hour may come, ye may remember them, that I said [them] to you, and these things to you from the beginning I did not say, because I was with you;I have said these things to you so that when the time comes, what I have said may come to your mind. I did not say them to you at the first, because then I was still with you.But these things I have told you, that when the hour shall come, you may remember that I told you of them.
John 16:5and now I go away to Him who sent me, and none of you doth ask me, Whither dost thou go?But now I am going to him who sent me; and not one of you says to me, Where are you going? But I told you not these things from the beginning, because I was with you. And now I go to him that sent me, and none of you asketh me: Whither goest thou?
John 16:6but because these things I have said to you, the sorrow hath filled your heart. But your hearts are full of sorrow because I have said these things. But because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
John 16:7`But I tell you the truth; it is better for you that I go away, for if I may not go away, the Comforter will not come unto you, and if I go on, I will send Him unto you;But what I am saying is true: my going is for your good: for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.But I tell you the truth: it is expedient to you that I go: for if I go not, the Paraclete will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
John 16:8and having come, He will convict the world concerning sin, and concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment; And he, when he comes, will make the world conscious of sin, and of righteousness, and of being judged:And when he is come, he will convince the world of sin, and of justice, and of judgment.
John 16:9concerning sin indeed, because they do not believe in me;Of sin, because they have not faith in me;Of sin: because they believed not in me.
John 16:10and concerning righteousness, because unto my Father I go away, and no more do ye behold me;Of righteousness, because I go to the Father and you will see me no more; And of justice: because I go to the Father; and you shall see me no longer.
John 16:11and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world hath been judged.Of being judged, because the ruler of this world has been judged. And of judgment: because the prince of this world is already judged.
John 16:12`I have yet many things to say to you, but ye are not able to bear [them] now;I have still much to say to you, but you are not strong enough for it now.I have yet many things to say to you: but you cannot bear them now.
John 16:13and when He may come the Spirit of truth He will guide you to all the truth, for He will not speak from Himself, but as many things as He will hear He will speak, and the coming things He will tell you; However, when he, the Spirit of true knowledge, has come, he will be your guide into all true knowledge: for his words will not come from himself, but whatever has come to his hearing, that he will say: and he will make clear to you the things to come. But when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will teach you all truth. For he shall not speak of himself; but what things soever he shall hear, he shall speak; and the things that are to come, he shall shew you.
John 16:14He will glorify me, because of mine He will take, and will tell to you.He will give me glory, because he will take of what is mine, and make it clear to you.He shall glorify me; because he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it to you.
John 16:15`All things, as many as the Father hath, are mine; because of this I said, That of mine He will take, and will tell to you;Everything which the Father has is mine: that is why I say, He will take of what is mine and will make it clear to you.All things whatsoever the Father hath, are mine. Therefore I said, that he shall receive of mine, and shew it to you.
John 16:16a little while, and ye do not behold me, and again a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go away unto the Father.`After a little time you will see me no longer; and then again, after a little time, you will see me.A little while, and now you shall not see me; and again a little while, and you shall see me: because I go to the Father.
John 16:17Therefore said [some] of his disciples one to another, `What is this that he saith to us, A little while, and ye do not behold me, and again a little while, and ye shall see me, and, Because I go away unto the Father?`So some of the disciples said one to another, What is this he is saying, After a little time, you will see me no longer; and then again, after a little time, you will see me? and, I am going to the Father? Then some of the disciples said one to another: What is this that he saith to us: A little while, and you shall not see me; and again a little while, and you shall see me, and, because I go to the Father?
John 16:18they said then, `What is this he saith the little while? we have not known what he saith.`So they said again and again, What is this he is saying, A little time? His words are not clear to us.They said therefore: What is this that he saith, A little while? we know not what he speaketh.
John 16:19Jesus, therefore, knew that they were wishing to ask him, and he said to them, `Concerning this do ye seek one with another, because I said, A little while, and you do not behold me, and again a little while, and ye shall see me?Jesus saw that they had a desire to put the question to him, so he said to them, Is this what you are questioning one with another, why I said, After a little time, you will see me no longer; and then again, after a little time, you will see me?And Jesus knew that they had a mind to ask him; and he said to them: Of this do you inquire among yourselves, because I said: A little while, and you shall not see me; and again a little while, and you shall see me?
John 16:20verily, verily, I say to you, that ye shall weep and lament, and the world will rejoice; and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow joy will become.Truly I say to you, You will be weeping and sorrowing, but the world will be glad: you will be sad, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.Amen, amen I say to you, that you shall lament and weep, but the world shall rejoice; and you shall be made sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
John 16:21`The woman, when she may bear, hath sorrow, because her hour did come, and when she may bear the child, no more doth she remember the anguish, because of the joy that a man was born to the world. When a woman is about to give birth she has sorrow, because her hour is come; but when she has given birth to the child, the pain is put out of her mind by the joy that a man has come into the world.A woman, when she is in labour, hath sorrow, because her hour is come; but when she hath brought forth the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.
John 16:22`And ye, therefore, now, indeed, have sorrow; and again I will see you, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no one doth take from you,So you have sorrow now: but I will see you again, and your hearts will be glad, and no one will take away your joy.So also you now indeed have sorrow; but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice; and your joy no man shall take from you.
John 16:23and in that day ye will question me nothing; verily, verily, I say to you, as many things as ye may ask of the Father in my name, He will give you;And on that day you will put no questions to me. Truly I say to you, Whatever request you make to the Father, he will give it to you in my name. And in that day you shall not ask me any thing. Amen, amen I say to you: if you ask the Father any thing in my name, he will give it you.
John 16:24till now ye did ask nothing in my name; ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.Up to now you have made no request in my name: do so, and it will be answered, so that your hearts may be full of joy.Hitherto you have not asked any thing in my name. Ask, and you shall receive; that your joy may be full.
John 16:25`These things in similitudes I have spoken to you, but there cometh an hour when no more in similitudes will I speak to you, but freely of the Father, will tell you.All this I have said to you in veiled language: but the time is coming when I will no longer say things in veiled language but will give you knowledge of the Father clearly. These things I have spoken to you in proverbs. The hour cometh, when I will no more speak to you in proverbs, but will shew you plainly of the Father.
John 16:26`In that day, in my name ye will make request, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father for you,In that day you will make requests in my name: and I do not say that I will make prayer to the Father for you,In that day you shall ask in my name; and I say not to you, that I will ask the Father for you:
John 16:27for the Father himself doth love you, because me ye have loved, and ye have believed that I from God came forth; For the Father himself gives his love to you, because you have given your love to me and have had faith that I came from God.For the Father himself loveth you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
John 16:28I came forth from the Father, and have come to the world; again I leave the world, and go on unto the Father.`I came out from the Father and have come into the world: again, I go away from the world and go to the Father.I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again I leave the world, and I go to the Father.
John 16:29His disciples say to him, `Lo, now freely thou dost speak, and no similitude speakest thou; His disciples said, Now you are talking clearly and not in veiled language. His disciples say to him: Behold, now thou speakest plainly, and speakest no proverb.
John 16:30now we have known that thou hast known all things, and hast no need that any one do question thee; in this we believe that from God thou didst come forth.`Now we are certain that you have knowledge of all things and have no need for anyone to put questions to you: through this we have faith that you came from God.Now we know that thou knowest all things, and thou needest not that any man should ask thee. By this we believe that thou camest forth from God.
John 16:31Jesus answered them, `Now do ye believe? lo, there doth come an hour,Jesus made answer, Have you faith now?Jesus answered them: Do you now believe?
John 16:32and now it hath come, that ye may be scattered, each to his own things, and me ye may leave alone, and I am not alone, because the Father is with me;See, a time is coming, yes, it is now here, when you will go away in all directions, every man to his house, and I will be by myself: but I am not by myself, because the Father is with me.Behold, the hour cometh, and it is now come, that you shall be scattered every man to his own, and shall leave me alone; and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
John 16:33these things I have spoken to you, that in me ye may have peace, in the world ye shall have tribulation, but take courage I have overcome the world.`I have said all these things to you so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble: but take heart! I have overcome the world. These things I have spoken to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you shall have distress: but have confidence, I have overcome the world.
