Matthew 17:1And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, and James, and John his brother, and doth bring them up to a high mount by themselves,And after six days Jesus takes with him Peter, and James, and John, his brother, and makes them go up with him into a high mountain by themselves. And after six days Jesus taketh unto him Peter and James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart:
Matthew 17:2and he was transfigured before them, and his face shone as the sun, and his garments did become white as the light,And he was changed in form before them; and his face was shining like the sun, and his clothing became white as light. And he was transfigured before them. And his face did shine as the sun: and his garments became white as snow.
Matthew 17:3and lo, appear to them did Moses and Elijah, talking together with him.And Moses and Elijah came before their eyes, talking with him.And behold there appeared to them Moses and Elias talking with him.
Matthew 17:4And Peter answering said to Jesus, `Sir, it is good to us to be here; if thou wilt, we may make here three booths for thee one, and for Moses one, and one for Elijah.`And Peter made answer and said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if you will let me, I will make here three tents, one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah. And Peter answering, said to Jesus: Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
Matthew 17:5While he is yet speaking, lo, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and lo, a voice out of the cloud, saying, `This is My Son, the Beloved, in whom I did delight; hear him.`While he was still talking, a bright cloud came over them: and a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my dearly loved Son, with whom I am well pleased; give ear to him.And as he was yet speaking, behold a bright cloud overshadowed them. And lo, a voice out of the cloud, saying: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: hear ye him.
Matthew 17:6And the disciples having heard, did fall upon their face, and were exceedingly afraid,And at these words the disciples went down on their faces in great fear. And the disciples hearing, fell upon their face, and were very much afraid.
Matthew 17:7and Jesus having come near, touched them, and said, `Rise, be not afraid,`And Jesus came and put his hand on them and said, Get up and have no fear. And Jesus came and touched them: and said to them, Arise, and fear not.
Matthew 17:8and having lifted up their eyes, they saw no one, except Jesus only. And lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, but Jesus only. And they lifting up their eyes saw no one but only Jesus.
Matthew 17:9And as they are coming down from the mount, Jesus charged them, saying, `Say to no one the vision, till the Son of Man out of the dead may rise.`And when they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus gave them orders, saying, Let no man have word of what you have seen, till the Son of man has come again from the dead. And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying: Tell the vision to no man, till the Son of man be risen from the dead.
Matthew 17:10And his disciples questioned him, saying, `Why then do the scribes say that Elijah it behoveth to come first?`And his disciples, questioning him, said, Why then do the scribes say that Elijah has to come first? And his disciples asked him, saying: Why then do the scribes say that Elias must come first?
Matthew 17:11And Jesus answering said to them, `Elijah doth indeed come first, and shall restore all things,And in answer he said, Elijah truly has to come and put all things right:But he answering, said to them: Elias indeed shall come, and restore all things.
Matthew 17:12and I say to you Elijah did already come, and they did not know him, but did with him whatever they would, so also the Son of Man is about to suffer by them.`But I say to you that Elijah has come, and they had no knowledge of him, but did to him whatever they were pleased to do; the same will the Son of man undergo at their hands. But I say to you, that Elias is already come, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they had a mind. So also the Son of man shall suffer from them.
Matthew 17:13Then understood the disciples that concerning John the Baptist he spake to them. Then the disciples saw that he was talking to them of John the Baptist. Then the disciples understood, that he had spoken to them of John the Baptist.
Matthew 17:14And when they came unto the multitude, there came to him a man, kneeling down to him,And when they came to the people, a man went down on his knees to him, saying,And when he was come to the multitude, there came to him a man falling down on his knees before him, saying: Lord, have pity on my son, for he is a lunatic, and suffereth much: for he falleth often into the fire, and often into the water.
Matthew 17:15and saying, `Sir, deal kindly with my son, for he is lunatic, and doth suffer miserably, for often he doth fall into the fire, and often into the water,Lord have mercy on my son: for he is off his head, and is in great pain; and frequently he goes falling into the fire, and frequently into the water. And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
Matthew 17:16and I brought him near to thy disciples, and they were not able to heal him.`And I took him to your disciples, and they were not able to make him well. Then Jesus answered and said: O unbelieving and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
Matthew 17:17And Jesus answering said, `O generation, unstedfast and perverse, till when shall I be with you? till when shall I bear you? bring him to me hither;`And Jesus, answering, said, O false and foolish generation, how long will I be with you? how long will I put up with you? let him come here to me.And Jesus rebuked him, and the devil went out of him, and the child was cured from that hour.
Matthew 17:18and Jesus rebuked him, and the demon went out of him, and the lad was healed from that hour. And Jesus gave orders to the unclean spirit, and it went out of him: and the boy was made well from that hour. Then came the disciples to Jesus secretly, and said: Why could not we cast him out?
Matthew 17:19Then the disciples having come to Jesus by himself, said, `Wherefore were we not able to cast him out?`Then the disciples came to Jesus privately, and said, Why were we not able to send it out?Jesus said to them: Because of your unbelief. For, amen I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, Remove from hence hither, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you.
Matthew 17:20And Jesus said to them, `Through your want of faith; for verily I say to you, if ye may have faith as a grain of mustard, ye shall say to this mount, Remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove, and nothing shall be impossible to you,And he says to them, Because of your little faith: for truly I say to you, If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Be moved from this place to that; and it will be moved; and nothing will be impossible to you.But this kind is not cast out but by prayer and fasting.
Matthew 17:21and this kind doth not go forth except in prayer and fasting.`[]And when they abode together in Galilee, Jesus said to them: The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:
Matthew 17:22And while they are living in Galilee, Jesus said to them, `The Son of Man is about to be delivered up to the hands of men,And while they were going about in Galilee, Jesus said to them, The Son of man will be given up into the hands of men;And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall rise again. And they were troubled exceedingly.
Matthew 17:23and they shall kill him, and the third day he shall rise,` and they were exceeding sorry. And they will put him to death, and the third day he will come again from the dead. And they were very sad.And when they were come to Capharnaum, they that recieved the didrachmas, came to Peter and said to him: Doth not your master pay the didrachmas?
Matthew 17:24And they having come to Capernaum, those receiving the didrachms came near to Peter, and said, `Your teacher doth he not pay the didrachms?` He saith, `Yes.`And when they had come to Capernaum, those who took the Temple tax came to Peter and said, Does not your master make payment of the Temple tax?He said: Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying: What is thy opinion, Simon? The kings of the earth, of whom do they receive tribute or custom? of their own children, or of strangers?
Matthew 17:25And when he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, `What thinkest thou, Simon? the kings of the earth from whom do they receive custom or poll-tax? from their sons or from the strangers?`He says, Yes. And when he came into the house, Jesus said to him, What is your opinion, Simon? from whom do the kings of the earth get payment or tax? from their sons or from other people? And he said: Of strangers. Jesus said to him: Then the children are free.
Matthew 17:26Peter saith to him, `From the strangers.` Jesus said to him, `Then are the sons free; And when he said, From other people, Jesus said to him, Then are the sons free. But that we may not scandalize them, go to the sea, and cast in a hook: and that fish which shall first come up, take: and when thou hast opened its mouth, thou shalt find a stater: take that, and give it to them for me and thee.
Matthew 17:27but, that we may not cause them to stumble, having gone to the sea, cast a hook, and the fish that hath come up first take thou up, and having opened its mouth, thou shalt find a stater, that having taken, give to them for me and thee.`But, so that we may not be a cause of trouble to them, go to the sea, and let down a hook, and take the first fish which comes up; and in his mouth you will see a bit of money: take that, and give it to them for me and you.
