Habakkuk 2:1On my charge I stand, and I station myself on a bulwark, and I watch to see what He doth speak against me, and what I do reply to my reproof.I will take my position and be on watch, placing myself on my tower, looking out to see what he will say to me, and what answer he will give to my protest.I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.
Habakkuk 2:2And Jehovah answereth me and saith: `Write a vision, and explain on the tables, That he may run who is reading it.And the Lord gave me an answer, and said, Put the vision in writing and make it clear on stones, so that the reader may go quickly. And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
Habakkuk 2:3For yet the vision [is] for a season, And it breatheth for the end, and doth not lie, If it tarry, wait for it, For surely it cometh, it is not late. For the vision is still for the fixed time, and it is moving quickly to the end, and it will not be false: even if it is slow in coming, go on waiting for it; because it will certainly come, it will not be kept back. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
Habakkuk 2:4Lo, a presumptuous one! Not upright is his soul within him, And the righteous by his stedfastness liveth. As for the man of pride, my soul has no pleasure in him; but the upright man will have life through his good faith.Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
Habakkuk 2:5And also, because the wine [is] treacherous, A man is haughty, and remaineth not at home, Who hath enlarged as sheol his soul, And is as death that is not satisfied, And doth gather unto itself all the nations, And doth assemble unto itself all the peoples,A curse on the cruel and false one! the man full of pride, who never has enough; who makes his desires wide as the underworld! he is like death; he is never full, but he makes all nations come to him, getting all peoples together to himself.Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine, he is a proud man, neither keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all people:
Habakkuk 2:6Do not these all of them against him a simile taken up, And a moral of acute sayings for him, And say, Wo [to] him who is multiplying [what is] not his? Till when also is he multiplying to himself heavy pledges? Will not all these take up a word of shame against him and a bitter saying against him, and say, A curse on him who goes on taking what is not his and is weighted down with the property of debtors!Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay!
Habakkuk 2:7Do not thy usurers instantly rise up, And those shaking thee awake up, And thou hast been for a spoil to them? Will not your creditors suddenly be moved against you, and your troublers get up from their sleep, and you will be to them like goods taken in war?Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee, and awake that shall vex thee, and thou shalt be for booties unto them?
Habakkuk 2:8Because thou hast spoiled many nations, Spoil thee do all the remnant of the peoples, Because of man`s blood, and of violence [to] the land, [To] the city, and [to] all dwelling in it.Because you have taken their goods from great nations, all the rest of the peoples will take your goods from you; because of men's blood and violent acts against the land and the town and all who are living in it.Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil thee; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
Habakkuk 2:9Wo [to] him who is gaining evil gain for his house, To set on high his nest, To be delivered from the hand of evil,A curse on him who gets evil profits for his family, so that he may put his resting-place on high and be safe from the hand of the wrongdoer!Woe to him that coveteth an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!
Habakkuk 2:10Thou hast counselled a shameful thing to thy house, To cut off many peoples, and sinful [is] thy soul. You have been a cause of shame to your house by cutting off a number of peoples, and sinning against your soul.Thou hast consulted shame to thy house by cutting off many people, and hast sinned against thy soul.
Habakkuk 2:11For a stone from the wall doth cry out, And a holdfast from the wood answereth it.For the stone will give a cry out of the wall, and it will be answered by the board out of the woodwork. For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.
Habakkuk 2:12Wo [to] him who is building a city by blood, And establishing a city by iniquity.A curse on him who is building a place with blood, and basing a town on evil-doing!Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and stablisheth a city by iniquity!
Habakkuk 2:13Lo, is it not from Jehovah of Hosts And peoples are fatigued for fire, And nations for vanity are weary?See, is it not the pleasure of the Lord of armies that the peoples are working for the fire and using themselves up for nothing?Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity?
Habakkuk 2:14For full is the earth of the knowledge of the honour of Jehovah, As waters cover [the bottom of] a sea.For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the sea is covered by the waters. For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
Habakkuk 2:15Wo [to] him who is giving drink to his neighbour, Pouring out thy bottle, and also making drunk, In order to look on their nakedness.A curse on him who gives his neighbour the wine of his wrath, making him overcome with strong drink from the cup of his passion, so that you may be a witness of their shame!Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!
Habakkuk 2:16Thou hast been filled shame without honour, Drink thou also, and be uncircumcised, Turn round unto thee doth the cup of the right hand of Jehovah, And shameful spewing [is] on thine honour. You are full of shame in place of glory: take your part in the drinking, and let your shame be uncovered: the cup of the Lord's right hand will come round to you and your glory will be covered with shame.Thou art filled with shame for glory: drink thou also, and let thy foreskin be uncovered: the cup of the LORD's right hand shall be turned unto thee, and shameful spewing shall be on thy glory.
Habakkuk 2:17For violence [to] Lebanon doth cover thee, And spoil of beasts doth affright them, Because of man`s blood, and of violence [to] the land, [To] the city, and [to] all dwelling in it.For the violent acts against Lebanon will come on you, and the destruction of the cattle will be a cause of fear to you, because of men's blood and the violent acts against the land and the town and all who are living in it.For the violence of Lebanon shall cover thee, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
Habakkuk 2:18What profit hath a graven image given That its former hath graven it? A molten image and teacher of falsehood, That trusted hath the former on his own formation to make dumb idols? What profit is the pictured image to its maker? and as for the metal image, the false teacher, why does its maker put his faith in it, making false gods without a voice? What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?
Habakkuk 2:19Wo [to] him who is saying to wood, `Awake,` `Stir up,` to a dumb stone, It a teacher! lo, it is overlaid gold and silver, And there is no spirit in its midst.A curse on him who says to the wood, Awake! to the unbreathing stone, Up! let it be a teacher! See, it is plated with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all inside it.Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.
Habakkuk 2:20And Jehovah [is] in His holy temple, Be silent before Him, all the earth! But the Lord is in his holy Temple: let all the earth be quiet before him.But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.
