Hebrews 8:1And the sum concerning the things spoken of [is]: we have such a chief priest, who did sit down at the right hand of the throne of the greatness in the heavens,Now of the things we are saying this is the chief point: We have such a high priest, who has taken his place at the right hand of God's high seat of glory in heaven,Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
Hebrews 8:2of the holy places a servant, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord did set up, and not man,As a servant of the holy things and of the true Tent, which was put up by God, not by man.A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.
Hebrews 8:3for every chief priest to offer both gifts and sacrifices is appointed, whence [it is] necessary for this one to have also something that he may offer;Now every high priest is given authority to take to God the things which are given and to make offerings; so that it is necessary for this man, like them, to have something for an offering.For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.
Hebrews 8:4for if, indeed, he were upon earth, he would not be a priest (there being the priests who are offering according to the law, the gifts,If he had been on earth he would not have been a priest at all, because there are other priests who make the offerings ordered by the law;For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law:
Hebrews 8:5who unto an example and shadow do serve of the heavenly things, as Moses hath been divinely warned, being about to construct the tabernacle, for `See (saith He) thou mayest make all things according to the pattern that was shewn to thee in the mount;`)Being servants of that which is a copy and an image of the things in heaven, as Moses, when he was about to make the Tent, had special orders from God: for, See, he said, that you make everything like the design which you saw in the mountain.Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.
Hebrews 8:6and now he hath obtained a more excellent service, how much also of a better covenant is he mediator, which on better promises hath been sanctioned,But now his position as priest is higher. because through him God has made a better agreement with man, based on the giving of better things.But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
Hebrews 8:7for if that first were faultless, a place would not have been sought for a second.For if that first agreement had been as good as possible, there would have been no place for a second.For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.
Hebrews 8:8For finding fault, He saith to them, `Lo, days come, saith the Lord, and I will complete with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah, a new covenant,For, protesting against them, he says, See, the days are coming when I will make a new agreement with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah;For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
Hebrews 8:9not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers, in the day of My taking [them] by their hand, to bring them out of the land of Egypt because they did not remain in My covenant, and I did not regard them, saith the Lord,Not like the agreement which I made with their fathers when I took them by the hand, to be their guide out of the land of Egypt; for they did not keep the agreement with me, and I gave them up, says the Lord.Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
Hebrews 8:10because this [is] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel, after those days, saith the Lord, giving My laws into their mind, and upon their hearts I will write them, and I will be to them for a God, and they shall be to Me for a people;For this is the agreement which I will make with the people of Israel after those days: I will put my laws into their minds, writing them in their hearts: and I will be their God, and they will be my people:For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
Hebrews 8:11and they shall not teach each his neighbour, and each his brother, saying, Know thou the Lord, because they shall all know Me from the small one of them unto the great one of them,And there will be no need for every man to be teaching his brother, or his neighbour, saying, This is the knowledge of the Lord: for they will all have knowledge of me, great and small.And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
Hebrews 8:12because I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawlessnesses I will remember no more;`And I will have mercy on their evil-doing, and I will not keep their sins in mind.For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
Hebrews 8:13in the saying `new,` He hath made the first old, and what doth become obsolete and is old [is] nigh disappearing.When he says, A new agreement, he has made the first agreement old. But anything which is getting old and past use will not be seen much longer.In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
