Genesis 21:1 | And Jehovah hath looked after Sarah as He hath said, and Jehovah doth to Sarah as He hath spoken; | And the Lord came to Sarah as he had said and did to her as he had undertaken.
Genesis 21:2 | and Sarah conceiveth, and beareth a son to Abraham, to his old age, at the appointed time that God hath spoken of with him; | And Sarah became with child, and gave Abraham a son when he was old, at the time named by God.
Genesis 21:3 | and Abraham calleth the name of his son who is born to him, whom Sarah hath born to him Isaac; | And Abraham gave to his son, to whom Sarah had given birth, the name Isaac.
Genesis 21:4 | and Abraham circumciseth Isaac his son, [being] a son of eight days, as God hath commanded him. | And when his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham made him undergo circumcision, as God had said to him.
Genesis 21:5 | And Abraham [is] a son of a hundred years in Isaac his son being born to him, | Now Abraham was a hundred years old when the birth of Isaac took place.
Genesis 21:6 | and Sarah saith, `God hath made laughter for me; every one who is hearing laugheth for me.` | And Sarah said, God has given me cause for laughing, and everyone who has news of it will be laughing with me.
Genesis 21:7 | She saith also, `Who hath said to Abraham, Sarah hath suckled sons, that I have born a son for his old age?` | And she said, Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would have a child at her breast? for see, I have given him a son now when he is old.
Genesis 21:8 | And the lad groweth, and is weaned, and Abraham maketh a great banquet in the day of Isaac`s being weaned; | And when the child was old enough to be taken from the breast, Abraham made a great feast.
Genesis 21:9 | and Sarah seeth the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she hath borne to Abraham, mocking, | And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian playing with Isaac.
Genesis 21:10 | and she saith to Abraham, `Cast out this handmaid and her son; for the son of this handmaid hath no possession with my son with Isaac.` | So she said to Abraham, Send away that woman and her son: for the son of that woman is not to have a part in the heritage with my son Isaac.
Genesis 21:11 | And the thing is very wrong in the eyes of Abraham, for his son`s sake; | And this was a great grief to Abraham because of his son.
Genesis 21:12 | and God saith unto Abraham, `Let it not be wrong in thine eyes because of the youth, and because of thy handmaid: all that Sarah saith unto thee hearken to her voice, for in Isaac is a seed called to thee. | But God said, Let it not be a grief to you because of the boy and Hagar his mother; give ear to whatever Sarah says to you, because it is from Isaac that your seed will take its name.
Genesis 21:13 | As to the son of the handmaid also, for a nation I set him, because he [is] thy seed.` | And I will make a nation of the son of your servant-woman, because he is your seed.
Genesis 21:14 | And Abraham riseth early in the morning, and taketh bread, and a bottle of water, and giveth unto Hagar (placing [it] on her shoulder), also the lad, and sendeth her out; and she goeth on, and goeth astray in the wilderness of Beer-Sheba; | And early in the morning Abraham got up, and gave Hagar some bread and a water-skin, and put the boy on her back, and sent her away: and she went, wandering in the waste land of Beer-sheba.
Genesis 21:15 | and the water is consumed from the bottle, and she placeth the lad under one of the shrubs. | And when all the water in the skin was used up, she put the child down under a tree.
Genesis 21:16 | And she goeth and sitteth by herself over-against, afar off, about a bow-shot, for she said, `Let me not look on the death of the lad;` and she sitteth over-against, and lifteth up her voice, and weepeth. | And she went some distance away, about an arrow flight, and seating herself on the earth, she gave way to bitter weeping, saying, Let me not see the death of my child.
Genesis 21:17 | And God heareth the voice of the youth; and the messenger of God calleth unto Hagar from the heavens, and saith to her, `What to thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath hearkened unto the voice of the youth where he [is]; | And the boy's cry came to the ears of God; and the angel of God said to Hagar from heaven, Hagar, why are you weeping? have no fear, for the child's cry has come to the ears of God.
Genesis 21:18 | rise, lift up the youth, and lay hold on him with thy hand, for for a great nation I set him.` | Come, take your child in your arms, for I will make of him a great nation.
Genesis 21:19 | And God openeth her eyes, and she seeth a well of water, and she goeth and filleth the bottle [with] water, and causeth the youth to drink; | Then God made her eyes open, and she saw a water-spring, and she got water in the skin and gave the boy a drink.
Genesis 21:20 | and God is with the youth, and he groweth, and dwelleth in the wilderness, and is an archer; | And God was with the boy, and he became tall and strong, and he became a bowman, living in the waste land.
Genesis 21:21 | and he dwelleth in the wilderness of Paran, and his mother taketh for him a wife from the land of Egypt. | And while he was in the waste land of Paran, his mother got him a wife from the land of Egypt.
Genesis 21:22 | And it cometh to pass at that time that Abimelech speaketh Phichol also, head of his host unto Abraham, saying, `God [is] with thee in all that thou art doing; | Now at that time, Abimelech and Phicol, the captain of his army, said to Abraham, I see that God is with you in all you do.
Genesis 21:23 | and now, swear to me by God here: thou dost not lie to me, or to my continuator, or to my successor; according to the kindness which I have done with thee thou dost with me, and with the land in which thou hast sojourned.` | Now, then, give me your oath, in the name of God, that you will not be false to me or to my sons after me, but that as I have been good to you, so you will be to me and to this land where you have been living.
Genesis 21:24 | And Abraham saith, `I I do swear.` | And Abraham said, I will give you my oath.
Genesis 21:25 | And Abraham reasoned with Abimelech concerning the matter of a well of water which Abimelech`s servants have taken violently away, | But Abraham made a protest to Abimelech because of a water-hole which Abimelech's servants had taken by force.
Genesis 21:26 | and Abimelech saith, `I have not known who hath done this thing, and even thou didst not declare to me, and I also, I have not heard save to-day.` | But Abimelech said, I have no idea who has done this thing; you never gave me word of it, and I had no knowledge of it till this day.
Genesis 21:27 | And Abraham taketh sheep and oxen, and giveth to Abimelech, and they make, both of them, a covenant; | And Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech, and the two of them made an agreement together.
Genesis 21:28 | and Abraham setteth seven Lambs of the flock by themselves. | And Abraham put seven young lambs of the flock on one side by themselves.
Genesis 21:29 | And Abimelech saith unto Abraham, `What [are] they these seven lambs which thou hast set by themselves?` | Then Abimelech said, What are these seven lambs which you have put on one side?
Genesis 21:30 | And he saith, `For the seven lambs thou dost accept from my hand, so that it becometh a witness for me that I have digged this well;` | And he said, Take these seven lambs from me as a witness that I have made this water-hole.
Genesis 21:31 | therefore hath he called that place `Beer-Sheba,` for there have both of them sworn. | So he gave that place the name Beer-sheba, because there the two of them had given their oaths.
Genesis 21:32 | And they make a covenant in Beer-Sheba, and Abimelech riseth Phichol also, head of his host and they turn back unto the land of the Philistines; | So they made an agreement at Beer-sheba, and Abimelech and Phicol, the captain of his army, went back to the land of the Philistines.
Genesis 21:33 | and [Abraham] planteth a tamarask in Beer-Sheba, and preacheth there in the name of Jehovah, God age-during; | And Abraham, after planting a holy tree in Beer-sheba, gave worship to the name of the Lord, the Eternal God.
Genesis 21:34 | and Abraham sojourneth in the land of the Philistines many days. | And Abraham went on living in the land of the Philistines as in a strange country.
