Matthew 9:1And having gone to the boat, he passed over, and came to his own city,And he got into a boat and went across and came to his town.Accordingly He went on board, and crossing over came to His own town.
Matthew 9:2and lo, they were bringing to him a paralytic, laid upon a couch, and Jesus having seen their faith, said to the paralytic, `Be of good courage, child, thy sins have been forgiven thee.`And they took to him a man stretched on a bed who had no power of moving; and Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the man who was ill, Son, take heart; you have forgiveness for your sins. Here they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. Seeing their faith Jesus said to the paralytic, "Take courage, my child; your sins are pardoned."
Matthew 9:3And lo, certain of the scribes said within themselves, `This one doth speak evil.`And some of the scribes said among themselves, This man has no respect for God."Such language is impious," said some of the Scribes among themselves.
Matthew 9:4And Jesus, having known their thoughts, said, `Why think ye evil in your hearts? And Jesus, having knowledge of what was in their minds, said, Why are your thoughts evil?Knowing their thoughts Jesus said, "Why are you cherishing evil thoughts in your hearts?
Matthew 9:5for which is easier? to say, The sins have been forgiven to thee; or to say, Rise, and walk? For which is the simpler, to say, You have forgiveness for your sins; or to say, Get up and go?Why, which is easier? to say, `Your sins are pardoned,' or to say `Rise up and walk'?
Matthew 9:6`But, that ye may know that the Son of Man hath power upon the earth to forgive sins (then saith he to the paralytic) having risen, take up thy couch, and go to thy house.`But so that you may see that on earth the Son of man has authority for the forgiveness of sins, (then said he to the man who was ill,) Get up, and take up your bed, and go to your house. But, to prove to you that the Son of Man has authority on earth to pardon sins" He then says to the paralytic, "Rise, and take up your bed and go home."
Matthew 9:7And he, having risen, went to his house,And he got up and went away to his house. And he got up, and went off home.
Matthew 9:8and the multitudes having seen, wondered, and glorified God, who did give such power to men.But when the people saw it they were full of fear, and gave glory to God who had given such authority to men.And the crowds were awe-struck when they saw it, and ascribed the glory to God who had entrusted such power to a man.
Matthew 9:9And Jesus passing by thence, saw a man sitting at the tax-office, named Matthew, and saith to him, `Be following me,` and he, having risen, did follow him.And when Jesus was going from there, he saw a man whose name was Matthew, seated at the place where taxes were taken; and he said to him, Come after me. And he got up and went after him.Passing on thence Jesus saw a man called Matthew sitting at the Toll Office, and said to him, "Follow me." And he arose, and followed Him.
Matthew 9:10And it came to pass, he reclining (at meat) in the house, that lo, many tax-gatherers and sinners having come, were lying (at meat) with Jesus and his disciples,And it came about, when he was in the house taking food, that a number of tax-farmers and sinners came and took their places with Jesus and his disciples. And while He was reclining at table, a large number of tax-gathers and notorious sinners were of the party with Jesus and His disciples.
Matthew 9:11and the Pharisees having seen, said to his disciples, `Wherefore with the tax-gatherers and sinners doth your teacher eat?`And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, Why does your Master take food with tax-farmers and sinners? The Pharisees noticed this, and they inquired of His disciples, "Why does your Teacher eat with the tax-gatherers and notorious sinners?"
Matthew 9:12And Jesus having heard, said to them, `They who are whole have no need of a physician, but they who are ill;But on hearing this he said, Those who are well have no need of a medical man, but those who are ill.He heard the question and replied, "It is not men in good health who require a doctor, but the sick.
Matthew 9:13but having gone, learn ye what is, Kindness I will, and not sacrifice, for I did not come to call righteous men, but sinners, to reformation.`But go and take to heart the sense of these words, My desire is for mercy, not offerings: for I have come not to get the upright, but sinners. But go and learn what this means, `It is mercy that I desire, not sacrifice'; for I did not come to appeal to the righteous, but to sinners."
Matthew 9:14Then come to him do the disciples of John, saying, `Wherefore do we and the Pharisees fast much, and thy disciples fast not?`Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees frequently go without food, but your disciples do not?At that time John's disciples came and asked Jesus, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not?"
Matthew 9:15And Jesus said to them, `Can the sons of the bride-chamber mourn, so long as the bridegroom is with them? but days shall come when the bridegroom may be taken from them, and then they shall fast. And Jesus said to them, Will the friends of the newly-married man be sad as long as he is with them? But the days will come when he will be taken away from them, and then will they go without food."Can the bridegroom's party mourn," He replied, "as long as the bridegroom is with them? But other days will come (when the Bridegroom has been taken from them) and then they will fast.
Matthew 9:16`And no one doth put a patch of undressed cloth on an old garment, for its filling up doth take from the garment, and a worse rent is made. And no man puts a bit of new cloth on an old coat, for by pulling away from the old, it makes a worse hole.No one ever mends an old cloak with a patch of newly woven cloth. Otherwise, the patch put on would tear away some of the old, and a worse hole would be made.
Matthew 9:17`Nor do they put new wine into old skins, and if not the skins burst, and the wine doth run out, and the skins are destroyed, but they put new wine into new skins, and both are preserved together.`And men do not put new wine into old wine-skins; or the skins will be burst and the wine will come out, and the skins are of no more use: but they put new wine into new wine-skins, and so the two will be safe.Nor do people pour new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the skins would split, the wine would escape, and the skins be destroyed. But they put new wine into fresh skins, and both are saved."
Matthew 9:18While he is speaking these things to them, lo, a ruler having come, was bowing to him, saying that `My daughter just now died, but, having come, lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.`While he was saying these things to them, there came a ruler and gave him worship, saying, My daughter is even now dead; but come and put your hand on her, and she will come back to life. While He was thus speaking, a Ruler came up and profoundly bowing said, "My daughter is just dead; but come and put your hand upon her and she will return to life."

Matthew 9:21for she said within herself, `If only I may touch his garment, I shall be saved.`Because, she said to herself, if I may but put my hand on his robe, I will be made well.for she said to herself, "If I but touch His cloak, I shall be cured."
Matthew 9:22And Jesus having turned about, and having seen her, said, `Be of good courage, daughter, thy faith hath saved thee,` and the woman was saved from that hour. But Jesus, turning and seeing her, said, Daughter, take heart; your faith has made you well. And the woman was made well from that hour. And Jesus turned and saw her, and said, "Take courage, daughter; your faith has cured you." And the woman was restored to health from that moment.
Matthew 9:23And Jesus having come to the house of the ruler, and having seen the minstrels and the multitude making tumult,And when Jesus came into the ruler's house and saw the players with their instruments and the people making a noise,Entering the Ruler's house, Jesus saw the flute-players and the crowd loudly wailing,

And they were laughing at him.and He said, "Go out of the room; the little girl is not dead, but asleep." And they laughed at Him.
Matthew 9:25but, when the multitude was put forth, having gone in, he took hold of her hand, and the damsel arose,But when the people were sent out, he went in and took her by the hand; and the girl got up.When however the place was cleared of the crowd, Jesus went in, and on His taking the little girl by the hand, she rose up.

Matthew 9:28And he having come to the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus saith to them, `Believe ye that I am able to do this?` They say to him, `Yes, sir.`And when he had come into the house, the blind men came to him; and Jesus said to them, Have you faith that I am able to do this? They said to him, Yes, Lord. And when He had gone indoors, they came to Him. "Do you believe that I can do this?" He asked them. "Yes, Sir," they replied.

Matthew 9:33and the demon having been cast out, the dumb spake, and the multitude did wonder, saying that `It was never so seen in Israel:`And when the evil spirit had been sent out, the man had the power of talking: and they were all surprised, saying, Such a thing has never been seen in Israel. When the demon was expelled, the dumb man could speak. And the crowds exclaimed in astonishment, "Never was such a thing seen in Israel."
Matthew 9:34but the Pharisees said, `By the ruler of the demons he doth cast out the demons.`But the Pharisees said, By the ruler of evil spirits, he sends evil spirits out of men.But the Pharisees maintained, "It is by the power of the Prince of the demons that he drives out the demons."

Matthew 9:37then saith he to his disciples, `The harvest indeed [is] abundant, but the workmen few;Then he said to his disciples, There is much grain but not enough men to get it in.Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest is abundant, but the reapers are few;
