1st-John 2:1 | My little children, these things I write to you, that ye may not sin: and if any one may sin, an advocate we have with the Father, Jesus Christ, a righteous one, | My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may be without sin. And if any man is a sinner, we have a friend and helper with the Father, Jesus Christ, the upright one: | My little children, I write these things to you so that you may not sin. If anyone sins, we have a Counselor with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous. |
1st-John 2:2 | and he he is a propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world, | He is the offering for our sins; and not for ours only, but for all the world. | And he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world. |
1st-John 2:3 | and in this we know that we have known him, if his commands we may keep; | And by this we may be certain that we have knowledge of him, if we keep his laws. | This is how we know that we know him: if we keep his commandments. |
1st-John 2:4 | he who is saying, `I have known him,` and his command is not keeping, a liar he is, and in him the truth is not; | The man who says, I have knowledge of him, and does not keep his laws, is false, and there is nothing true in him: | He who says, "I know him," and doesn't keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. |
1st-John 2:5 | and whoever may keep his word, truly in him the love of God hath been perfected; in this we know that in him we are. | But in every man who keeps his word, the love of God is made complete. By this we may be certain that we are in him: | But whoever keeps his word, God's love has most assuredly been perfected in him. This is how we know that we are in him: |
1st-John 2:6 | He who is saying in him he doth remain, ought according as he walked also himself so to walk. | He who says that he is living in him, will do as he did. | he who says he remains in him ought himself also to walk just like he walked. |
1st-John 2:7 | Brethren, a new command I write not to you, but an old command, that ye had from the beginning the old command is the word that ye heard from the beginning; | My loved ones, I do not give you a new law, but an old law which you had from the first; this old law is the word which came to your ears. | Brothers, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning. |
1st-John 2:8 | again, a new command I write to you, which thing is true in him and in you, because the darkness doth pass away, and the true light doth now shine; | Again, I give you a new law, which is true in him and in you; for the night is near its end and the true light is even now shining out. | Again, I write a new commandment to you, which thing is true in him and in you; because the darkness is passing away, and the true light already shines. |
1st-John 2:9 | he who is saying, in the light he is, and his brother is hating, in the darkness he is till now; | He who says that he is in the light, and has hate in his heart for his brother, is still in the dark. | He who says he is in the light and hates his brother, is in the darkness even until now. |
1st-John 2:10 | he who is loving his brother, in the light he doth remain, and a stumbling-block in him there is not; | He who has love for his brother is in the light, and there is no cause of error in him. | He who loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no occasion for stumbling in him. |
1st-John 2:11 | and he who is hating his brother, in the darkness he is, and in the darkness he doth walk, and he hath not known whither he doth go, because the darkness did blind his eyes. | But he who has hate for his brother is in the dark, walking in the dark with no knowledge of where he is going, unable to see because of the dark. | But he who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and doesn't know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. |
1st-John 2:12 | I write to you, little children, because the sins have been forgiven you through his name; | I am writing to you, my children, because you have forgiveness of sins through his name. | I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake. |
1st-John 2:13 | I write to you, fathers, because ye have known him who [is] from the beginning; I write to you, young men, because ye have overcome the evil. I write to you, little youths, because ye have known the Father: | I am writing to you, fathers, because you have knowledge of him who was from the first. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the Evil One. I have sent a letter to you, children, because you have knowledge of the Father. | I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, little children, because you know the Father. |
1st-John 2:14 | I did write to you, fathers, because ye have known him who [is] from the beginning; I did write to you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God in you doth remain, and ye have overcome the evil. | I have sent a letter to you, fathers, because you have knowledge of him who was from the first. I have sent a letter to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God is in you, and because you have overcome the Evil One. | I have written to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God remains in you, and you have overcome the evil one. |
1st-John 2:15 | Love not ye the world, nor the things in the world; if any one doth love the world, the love of the Father is not in him, | Have no love for the world or for the things which are in the world. If any man has love for the world, the love of the Father is not in him. | Don't love the world, neither the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father's love isn't in him. |
1st-John 2:16 | because all that [is] in the world the desire of the flesh, and the desire of the eyes, and the ostentation of the life is not of the Father, but of the world, | Because everything in the world, the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father but of the world. | For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, isn't the Father's, but is the world's. |
1st-John 2:17 | and the world doth pass away, and the desire of it, and he who is doing the will of God, he doth remain to the age. | And the world and its desires is coming to an end: but he who does God's pleasure is living for ever. | The world is passing away with its lusts, but he who does God's will remains forever. |
1st-John 2:18 | Little youths, it is the last hour; and even as ye heard that the antichrist doth come, even now antichrists have become many whence we know that it is the last hour; | Little children, it is the last hour; and as you were given word that the Antichrist would come, so now a number of Antichrists have come to you; and by this we are certain that it is the last hour. | Little children, these are the end times, and as you heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen. By this we know that it is the end times. |
1st-John 2:19 | out of us they went forth, but they were not of us, for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but that they might be manifested that they are not all of us. | They went out from us but they were not of us; if they had been of us they would still be with us: but they went out from us so that it might be made clear that they were not of us. | They went out from us, but they didn't belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have continued with us. But they left, that they might be revealed that none of them belong to us. |
1st-John 2:20 | And ye have an anointing from the Holy One, and have known all things; | And you have the Spirit from the Holy One and you all have knowledge. | You have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know the truth. |
1st-John 2:21 | I did not write to you because ye have not known the truth, but because ye have known it, and because no lie is of the truth. | I have not sent you this letter because you have no knowledge of what is true, but because you have knowledge, and because that which is false has nothing in common with that which is true. | I have not written to you because you don't know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth. |
1st-John 2:22 | Who is the liar, except he who is denying that Jesus is the Christ? this one is the antichrist who is denying the Father and the Son; | Who is false but he who says that Jesus is not the Christ? He is the Antichrist who has no belief in the Father or the Son. | Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the Antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. |
1st-John 2:23 | every one who is denying the Son, neither hath he the Father, [he who is confessing the Son hath the Father also.] | He who has no belief in the Son has not the Father: he who makes clear his belief in the Son has the Father. | Whoever denies the Son, the same doesn't have the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also. |
1st-John 2:24 | Ye, then, that which ye heard from the beginning, in you let it remain; if in you may remain that which from the beginning ye did hear, ye also in the Son and in the Father shall remain, | But as for you, keep in your hearts the things which were made clear to you from the first. If you keep these things in your hearts you will be kept in the Father and the Son. | Therefore, as for you, let that remain in you which you heard from the beginning. If that which you heard from the beginning remains in you, you also will remain in the Son, and in the Father. |
1st-John 2:25 | and this is the promise that He did promise us the life the age-during. | And this is the hope which he gave you, even eternal life. | This is the promise which he promised us, the eternal life. |
1st-John 2:26 | These things I did write to you concerning those leading you astray; | I am writing these things to you about those whose purpose is that you may be turned out of the true way. | These things I have written to you concerning those who would lead you astray. |
1st-John 2:27 | and you, the anointing that ye did receive from him, in you it doth remain, and ye have no need that any one may teach you, but as the same anointing doth teach you concerning all, and is true, and is not a lie, and even as was taught you, ye shall remain in him. | As for you, the Spirit which he gave you is still in you, and you have no need of any teacher; but as his Spirit gives you teaching about all things, and is true and not false, so keep your hearts in him, through the teaching which he has given you. | As for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you don't need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, you will remain in him. |
1st-John 2:28 | And now, little children, remain in him, that when he may be manifested, we may have boldness, and may not be ashamed before him, in his presence; | And now, my children, keep your hearts in him; so that at his revelation, we may have no fear or shame before him at his coming. | Now, little children, remain in him, that when he appears, we may have boldness, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. |
1st-John 2:29 | if ye know that he is righteous, know ye that every one doing the righteousness, of him hath been begotten. | If you have knowledge that he is upright, it is clear to you that everyone who does righteousness is his offspring. | If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of him. |
