Acts 8:1And Saul was assenting to his death, and there came in that day a great persecution upon the assembly in Jerusalem, all also were scattered abroad in the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles;And Saul gave approval to his death. Now at that time a violent attack was started against the church in Jerusalem; and all but the Apostles went away into all parts of Judaea and Samaria.Saul was consenting to his death. A great persecution arose against the assembly which was in Jerusalem in that day. They were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except for the apostles.
Acts 8:2and devout men carried away Stephen, and made great lamentation over him;And God-fearing men put Stephen's body in its last resting-place, making great weeping over him.Devout men buried Stephen, and lamented greatly over him.
Acts 8:3and Saul was making havoc of the assembly, into every house entering, and haling men and women, was giving them up to prison;But Saul was burning with hate against the church, going into every house and taking men and women and putting them in prison.But Saul ravaged the assembly, entering into every house, and dragged both men and women off to prison.
Acts 8:4they then indeed, having been scattered, went abroad proclaiming good news the word.But those who had gone in flight went everywhere preaching the word.Therefore those who were scattered abroad went around preaching the word.
Acts 8:5And Philip having gone down to a city of Samaria, was preaching to them the Christ,And Philip went down to Samaria and was teaching them about Christ.Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and proclaimed to them the Christ.
Acts 8:6the multitudes also were giving heed to the things spoken by Philip, with one accord, in their hearing and seeing the signs that he was doing,And all the people gave attention to the words which Philip said, when they saw the signs which he did.The multitudes listened with one accord to the things that were spoken by Philip, when they heard and saw the signs which he did.
Acts 8:7for unclean spirits came forth from many who were possessed, crying with a loud voice, and many who have been paralytic and lame were healed,For unclean spirits came out from those who had them, crying with a loud voice; and a number of those who were ill and broken in body were made well.For unclean spirits came out of many of those who had them. They came out, crying with a loud voice. Many who had been paralyzed and lame were healed.
Acts 8:8and there was great joy in that city.And there was much joy in that town.There was great joy in that city.
Acts 8:9And a certain man, by name Simon, was before in the city using magic, and amazing the nation of Samaria, saying himself to be a certain great one,But there was a certain man named Simon, who in the past had been a wonder-worker and a cause of surprise to the people of Samaria, saying that he himself was a great man:But there was a certain man, Simon by name, who had used sorcery in the city before, and amazed the people of Samaria, making himself out to be some great one,
Acts 8:10to whom they were all giving heed, from small unto great, saying, `This one is the great power of God;`To whom they all gave attention, from the smallest to the greatest, saying, This man is that power of God which is named Great.to whom they all listened, from the least to the greatest, saying, "This man is that great power of God."
Acts 8:11and they were giving heed to him, because of his having for a long time amazed them with deeds of magic.And they gave attention to him, because for a long time his wonder-working powers had kept them under his control.They listened to him, because for a long time he had amazed them with his sorceries.
Acts 8:12And when they believed Philip, proclaiming good news, the things concerning the reign of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized both men and women;But when they had faith in the good news given by Philip about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, a number of men and women had baptism.But when they believed Philip preaching good news concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
Acts 8:13and Simon also himself did believe, and, having been baptized, he was continuing with Philip, beholding also signs and mighty acts being done, he was amazed.And Simon himself had faith and, having had baptism, he went with Philip and, seeing the signs and the great wonders which he did, he was full of surprise.Simon himself also believed. Being baptized, he continued with Philip. Seeing signs and great miracles done, he was amazed.
Acts 8:14And the apostles in Jerusalem having heard that Samaria hath received the word of God, did send unto them Peter and John,Now when the Apostles at Jerusalem had news that the people of Samaria had taken the word of God into their hearts, they sent to them Peter and John;Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them,
Acts 8:15who having come down did pray concerning them, that they may receive the Holy Spirit,Who, when they came there, made prayer for them, that the Holy Spirit might be given to them:who, when they had come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit;
Acts 8:16for as yet he was fallen upon none of them, and only they have been baptized to the name of the Lord Jesus;For up to that time he had not come on any of them; only baptism had been given to them in the name of the Lord Jesus.for as yet he had fallen on none of them. They had only been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.
Acts 8:17then were they laying hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.Then they put their hands on them, and the Holy Spirit came on them.Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
Acts 8:18And Simon, having beheld that through the laying on of the hands of the apostles, the Holy Spirit is given, brought before them money,Now when Simon saw that the Holy Spirit was given through the touch of the Apostles' hands, he made them an offering of money, saying,Now when Simon saw that the Holy Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money,
Acts 8:19saying, `Give also to me this authority, that on whomsoever I may lay the hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit.`Give me this power, so that when I put my hands on anyone he may get the Holy Spirit.saying, "Give me also this power, that whoever I lay my hands on may receive the Holy Spirit."
Acts 8:20And Peter said unto him, `Thy silver with thee may it be to destruction! because the gift of God thou didst think to possess through money;But Peter said, May your money come to destruction with you, because you had the idea that what is freely given by God may be got for a price.But Peter said to him, "May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!
Acts 8:21thou hast neither part nor lot in this thing, for thy heart is not right before God;You have no part in this business, because your heart is not right before God.You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart isn't right before God.
Acts 8:22reform, therefore, from this thy wickedness, and beseech God, if then the purpose of thy heart may be forgiven thee,Let your heart be changed, and make prayer to God that you may have forgiveness for your evil thoughts.Repent therefore of this, your wickedness, and ask God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.
Acts 8:23for in the gall of bitterness, and bond of unrighteousness, I perceive thee being.`For I see that you are prisoned in bitter envy and the chains of sin.For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bondage of iniquity."
Acts 8:24And Simon answering, said, `Beseech ye for me unto the Lord, that nothing may come upon me of the things ye have spoken.`And Simon, answering, said, Make prayer for me to the Lord, so that these things which you have said may not come on me.Simon answered, "Pray for me to the Lord, that none of the things which you have spoken come on me."
Acts 8:25They indeed, therefore, having testified fully, and spoken the word of the Lord, did turn back to Jerusalem; in many villages also of the Samaritans they did proclaim good news.So they, having given their witness and made clear the word of the Lord, went back to Jerusalem, giving the good news on their way in a number of the small towns of Samaria.They therefore, when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.
Acts 8:26And a messenger of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, `Arise, and go on toward the south, on the way that is going down from Jerusalem to Gaza,` this is desert.But an angel of the Lord said to Philip, Get up, and go to the south, to the road which goes from Jerusalem to Gaza, through the waste land.But an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, "Arise, and go toward the south to the way that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza. This is a desert."
Acts 8:27And having arisen, he went on, and lo, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch, a man of rank, of Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to worship to Jerusalem;And he went and there was a man of Ethiopia, a servant of great authority under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, and controller of all her property, who had come up to Jerusalem for worship;He arose and went. Behold, there was a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to Jerusalem to worship.
Acts 8:28he was also returning, and is sitting on his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah.He was going back, seated in his carriage, and was reading the book of the prophet Isaiah.He was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah.
Acts 8:29And the Spirit said to Philip, `Go near, and be joined to this chariot;`And the Spirit said to Philip, Go near, and get on his carriage.The Spirit said to Philip, "Go near, and join yourself to this chariot."
Acts 8:30and Philip having run near, heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, `Dost thou then know what thou dost read?`And Philip, running up to him, saw that he was reading Isaiah the prophet, and said to him, Is the sense of what you are reading clear to you?Philip ran to him, and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, "Do you understand you what you are reading?"
Acts 8:31and he said, `Why, how am I able, if some one may not guide me?` he called Philip also, having come up, to sit with him.And he said, How is that possible when I have no guide? And he made Philip get up by his side.He said, "How can I, unless someone explains it to me?" He begged Philip to come up and sit with him.
Acts 8:32And the contents of the Writing that he was reading was this: `As a sheep unto slaughter he was led, and as a lamb before his shearer dumb, so he doth not open his mouth;Now the place in the book where he was reading was this: He was taken, like a sheep, to be put to death; and as a lamb is quiet when its wool is being cut, so he made no sound:Now the passage of the Scripture which he was reading was this, "He was led as a sheep to the slaughter. As a lamb before his shearer is silent, So he doesn't open his mouth.
Acts 8:33in his humiliation his judgment was taken away, and his generation who shall declare? because taken from the earth is his life.`Being of low degree, his cause was not given a hearing: who has knowledge of his family? for his life is cut off from the earth.In his humiliation, his judgment was taken away. Who will declare His generations? For his life is taken from the earth."
Acts 8:34And the eunuch answering Philip said, `I pray thee, about whom doth the prophet say this? about himself, or about some other one?`And the Ethiopian said to Philip, About whom are these words said by the prophet? about himself, or some other?The eunuch answered Philip, "Please tell who the prophet is talking about: about himself, or about some other?"
Acts 8:35and Philip having opened his mouth, and having begun from this Writing, proclaimed good news to him Jesus.So Philip, starting from this writing, gave him the good news about Jesus.Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture, preached to him Jesus.
Acts 8:36And as they were going on the way, they came upon a certain water, and the eunuch said, `Lo, water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?`And while they were going on their way, they came to some water, and the Ethiopian said, See, here is water; why may I not have baptism?As they went on the way, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, "Behold, here is water. What is keeping me from being baptized?"
Acts 8:37[And Philip said, `If thou dost believe out of all the heart, it is lawful;` and he answering said, `I believe Jesus Christ to be the Son of God;`][]
Acts 8:38and he commanded the chariot to stand still, and they both went down to the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him;And he gave orders for the carriage to be stopped, and the two of them went down into the water, and Philip gave him baptism.He commanded the chariot to stand still, and they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him.
Acts 8:39and when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, and the eunuch saw him no more, for he was going on his way rejoicing;And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord took Philip away; and the Ethiopian saw him no more, for he went on his way full of joy.When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, and the eunuch didn't see him any more, for he went on his way rejoicing.
Acts 8:40and Philip was found at Azotus, and passing through, he was proclaiming good news to all the cities, till his coming to Cesarea.But Philip came to Azotus, and went through all the towns, preaching the good news, till he came to Caesarea.But Philip was found at Azotus. Passing through, he preached the gospel to all the cities, until he came to Caesarea.
