John 6:1After these things Jesus went away beyond the sea of Galilee (of Tiberias),After these things Jesus went away to the other side of the sea of Galilee that is, the sea of Tiberias. After these things, Jesus went away to the other side of the sea of Galilee, which is also called the Sea of Tiberias.
John 6:2and there was following him a great multitude, because they were seeing his signs that he was doing on the ailing; And a great number of people went after him because they saw the signs which he did on those who were ill.A great multitude followed him, because they saw the signs which he did on those who were sick.
John 6:3and Jesus went up to the mount, and he was there sitting with his disciples,Then Jesus went up the mountain and was seated there with his disciples.Jesus went up into the mountain, and he sat there with his disciples.
John 6:4and the passover was nigh, the feast of the Jews. Now the Passover, a feast of the Jews, was near. Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand.
John 6:5Jesus then having lifted up [his] eyes and having seen that a great multitude doth come to him, saith unto Philip, `Whence shall we buy loaves, that these may eat?`Lifting up his eyes, Jesus saw a great number of people coming to where he was, and he said to Philip, Where may we get bread for all these people?Jesus therefore lifting up his eyes, and seeing that a great multitude was coming to him, said to Philip, "Where are we to buy bread, that these may eat?"
John 6:6and this he said, trying him, for he himself had known what he was about to do.This he said, testing him: for he had no doubt what he himself would do.This he said to test him, for he himself knew what he would do.
John 6:7Philip answered him, `Two hundred denaries` worth of loaves are not sufficient to them, that each of them may receive some little;`Philip made answer, Bread to the value of two hundred pence would not be enough even to give everyone a little.Philip answered him, "Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that everyone of them may receive a little."
John 6:8one of his disciples Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter saith to him,One of his disciples, Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, said to Jesus,One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him,
John 6:9`There is one little lad here who hath five barley loaves, and two fishes, but these what are they to so many?`There is a boy here with five barley cakes and two fishes: but what is that among such a number?"There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these among so many?"
John 6:10And Jesus said, `Make the men to sit down;` and there was much grass in the place, the men then sat down, in number, as it were, five thousand,Jesus said, Let the people be seated. Now there was much grass in that place. And those seated on the grass were about five thousand.Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." Now there was much grass in that place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
John 6:11and Jesus took the loaves, and having given thanks he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those reclining, in like manner, also of the little fishes as much as they wished. Then Jesus took the cakes and having given praise to God, he gave them to the people who were seated, and the fishes in the same way, as much as they had need of.Jesus took the loaves; and having given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those who were sitting down; likewise also of the fish as much as they desired.
John 6:12And when they were filled, he saith to his disciples, `Gather together the broken pieces that are over, that nothing may be lost;`And when they had had enough, Jesus said to his disciples, Take up the broken bits which are over, so that nothing may be wasted. When they were filled, he said to his disciples, "Gather up the broken pieces which are left over, that nothing be lost."
John 6:13they gathered together, therefore, and filled twelve hand-baskets with broken pieces, from the five barley loaves that were over to those having eaten. So they took them up: twelve baskets full of broken bits of the five cakes which were over after the people had had enough. So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which were left over by those who had eaten.
John 6:14The men, then, having seen the sign that Jesus did, said `This is truly the Prophet, who is coming to the world;`And when the people saw the sign which he had done, they said, Truly, this is the prophet who is to come into the world. When therefore the people saw the sign which Jesus did, they said, "This is truly the prophet who comes into the world."
John 6:15Jesus, therefore, having known that they are about to come, and to take him by force that they may make him king, retired again to the mountain himself alone. Now when Jesus saw that the people were about to come and take him by force to make him a king, he went away again up the mountain by himself.Jesus therefore, perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force, to make him king, withdrew again into the mountain by himself.
John 6:16And when evening came, his disciples went down to the sea,When evening came the disciples went down to the sea; When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea,
John 6:17and having entered into the boat, they were going over the sea to Capernaum, and darkness had already come, and Jesus had not come unto them,And they took a boat and went across the sea in the direction of Capernaum. By then it was dark and still Jesus had not come to them.and they entered into the boat, and were going over the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not come to them.
John 6:18the sea also a great wind blowing was being raised,The sea was getting rough because of a strong wind which was blowing. The sea was rising by reason of a great wind that blew.
John 6:19having pushed onwards, therefore, about twenty-five or thirty furlongs, they behold Jesus walking on the sea, and coming nigh to the boat, and they were afraid; After they had gone three or four miles they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near to the boat; and they had great fear. When therefore they had rowed about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they saw Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing near to the boat; and they were afraid.
John 6:20and he saith to them, `I am [he], be not afraid;`But he said to them, It is I, have no fear. But he said to them, "It is I. Don't be afraid."
John 6:21they were willing then to receive him into the boat, and immediately the boat came unto the land to which they were going. Then they readily took him into the boat: and straight away the boat was at the land to which they were going. They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat. Immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.
John 6:22On the morrow, the multitude that was standing on the other side of the sea, having seen that there was no other little boat there except one that into which his disciples entered and that Jesus went not in with his disciples into the little boat, but his disciples went away alone,The day after, the people who were on the other side of the sea saw that only one small boat had been there, that Jesus had not gone in that boat with the disciples, but that the disciples had gone away by themselves. On the next day, the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except the one which his disciples had entered, and that Jesus hadn't entered with his disciples into the boat, but his disciples went away alone.
John 6:23(and other little boats came from Tiberias, nigh the place where they did eat the bread, the Lord having given thanks),Some other boats, however, came from Tiberias near to the place where they had taken the bread after the Lord had given praise. However boats from Tiberias came near to the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks.
John 6:24when therefore the multitude saw that Jesus is not there, nor his disciples, they also themselves did enter into the boats, and came to Capernaum seeking Jesus; So when the people saw that Jesus was not there, or his disciples, they got into those boats and went over to Capernaum looking for Jesus. When the multitude therefore saw that Jesus wasn't there, neither his disciples, they themselves got into the boats, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.
John 6:25and having found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, `Rabbi, when hast thou come hither?`And when they came across him on the other side of the sea they said, Rabbi, when did you come here? When they found him on the other side of the sea, they asked him, "Rabbi, when did you come here?"
John 6:26Jesus answered them and said, `Verily, verily, I say to you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw signs, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were satisfied;Jesus, answering them, said, Truly I say to you, You come after me, not because you saw signs, but because you were given the bread and had enough.Jesus answered them, "Most assuredly I tell you, you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves, and were filled.
John 6:27work not for the food that is perishing, but for the food that is remaining to life age-during, which the Son of Man will give to you, for him did the Father seal [even] God.`Let your work not be for the food which comes to an end, but for the food which goes on for eternal life, which the Son of man will give to you, for on him has God the Father put his mark.Don't work for the food which perishes, but for the food which remains to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For the Father, even God, has sealed him."
John 6:28They said therefore unto him, `What may we do that we may work the works of God?`Then they said to him, How may we do the works of God?They said therefore to him, "What must we do, that we may work the works of God?"
John 6:29Jesus answered and said to them, `This is the work of God, that ye may believe in him whom He did send.`Jesus, answering, said to them, This is to do the work of God: to have faith in him whom God has sent.Jesus answered them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent."
John 6:30They said therefore to him, `What sign, then, dost thou, that we may see and may believe thee? what dost thou work?So they said, What sign do you give us, so that we may see and have faith in you? What do you do?They said therefore to him, "What then do you do for a sign, that we may see, and believe you? What work do you do?
John 6:31our fathers the manna did eat in the wilderness, according as it is having been written, Bread out of the heaven He gave them to eat.`Our fathers had the manna in the waste land, as the Writings say, He gave them bread from heaven. Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness. As it is written, 'He gave them bread out of the sky to eat.'"
John 6:32Jesus, therefore, said to them, `Verily, verily, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread out of the heaven; but my Father doth give you the true bread out of the heaven;Jesus then said to them, Truly I say to you, What Moses gave you was not the bread from heaven; it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven.Jesus therefore said to them, "Most assuredly, I tell you, it wasn't Moses who gave you the bread out of heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread out of heaven.
John 6:33for the bread of God is that which is coming down out of the heaven, and giving life to the world.`The bread of God is the bread which comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world. For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world."
John 6:34They said, therefore, unto him, `Sir, always give us this bread.`Ah, Lord, they said, give us that bread for ever! They said therefore to him, "Lord, always give us this bread."
John 6:35And Jesus said to them, `I am the bread of the life; he who is coming unto me may not hunger, and he who is believing in me may not thirst at any time; And this was the answer of Jesus: I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never be in need of food, and he who has faith in me will never be in need of drink.Jesus said to them. "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.
John 6:36but I said to you, that ye also have seen me, and ye believe not;But it is as I said to you: you have seen me, and still you have no faith. But I told you that you have seen me, and yet don't believe.
John 6:37all that the Father doth give to me will come unto me; and him who is coming unto me, I may in no wise cast without,Whatever the Father gives to me will come to me; and I will not send away anyone who comes to me.All that which the Father gives me will come to me. Him who comes to me I will in no way throw out.
John 6:38because I have come down out of the heaven, not that I may do my will, but the will of Him who sent me.For I have come down from heaven, not to do my pleasure, but the pleasure of him who sent me.For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.
John 6:39`And this is the will of the Father who sent me, that all that He hath given to me I may not lose of it, but may raise it up in the last day;And this is the pleasure of him who sent me, that I am not to let out of my hands anything which he has given me, but I am to give it new life on the last day. This is the will of my Father who sent me, that of all who he has given to me I should lose nothing, but should raise them up at the last day.
John 6:40and this is the will of Him who sent me, that every one who is beholding the Son, and is believing in him, may have life age-during, and I will raise him up in the last day.`This, I say, is my Father's pleasure, that everyone who sees the Son and has faith in him may have eternal life: and I will take him up on the last day. This is the will of the one who sent me, that everyone who sees the Son, and believes in him, should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day."
John 6:41The Jews, therefore, were murmuring at him, because he said, `I am the bread that came down out of the heaven;`Now the Jews said bitter things about Jesus because of his words, I am the bread which came down from heaven. The Jews therefore murmured concerning him, because he said, "I am the bread which came down out of heaven."
John 6:42and they said, `Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we have known? how then saith this one Out of the heaven I have come down?`And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we have seen? How is it then that he now says, I have come down from heaven? They said, "Isn't this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How then does he say, 'I have come down out of heaven?'"
John 6:43Jesus answered, therefore, and said to them, `Murmur not one with another;Jesus made answer and said, Do not say things against me, one to another. Therefore Jesus answered them, "Don't murmur among yourselves.
John 6:44no one is able to come unto me, if the Father who sent me may not draw him, and I will raise him up in the last day;No man is able to come to me if the Father who sent me does not give him the desire to come: and I will take him up from the dead on the last day.No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up in the last day.
John 6:45it is having been written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God; every one therefore who heard from the Father, and learned, cometh to me;The writings of the prophets say, And they will all have teaching from God. Everyone whose ears have been open to the teaching of the Father comes to me.It is written in the prophets, 'They will all be taught by God.' Everyone who hears from the Father, and has learned, comes to me.
John 6:46not that any one hath seen the Father, except he who is from God, he hath seen the Father. Not that anyone has ever seen the Father; only he who is from God, he has seen the Father. Not that any man has seen the Father, except he who is from God. He has seen the Father.
John 6:47`Verily, verily, I say to you, He who is believing in me, hath life age-during;Truly I say to you, He who has faith in me has eternal life. Most assuredly, I tell you, he who believes in me has eternal life.
John 6:48I am the bread of the life;I am the bread of life.I am the bread of life.
John 6:49your fathers did eat the manna in the wilderness, and they died;Your fathers took the manna in the waste land and they are dead.Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.
John 6:50this is the bread that out of the heaven is coming down, that any one may eat of it, and not die.The bread which comes from heaven is such bread that a man may take it for food and never see death. This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, that a man may eat of it, and not die.
John 6:51`I am the living bread that came down out of the heaven; if any one may eat of this bread he shall live to the age; and the bread also that I will give is my flesh, that I will give for the life of the world.`I am the living bread which has come from heaven: if any man takes this bread for food he will have life for ever: and more than this, the bread which I will give is my flesh which I will give for the life of the world.I am the living bread which came down out of heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. Yes, the bread which I will give is my flesh, for the life of the world."
John 6:52The Jews, therefore, were striving with one another, saying, `How is this one able to give us [his] flesh to eat?`Then the Jews had an angry discussion among themselves, saying, How is it possible for this man to give us his flesh for food? The Jews therefore contended with one another, saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"
John 6:53Jesus, therefore, said to them, `Verily, verily, I say to you, If ye may not eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and may not drink his blood, ye have no life in yourselves; Then Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, If you do not take the flesh of the Son of man for food, and if you do not take his blood for drink, you have no life in you.Jesus therefore said to them, "Most assuredly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you don't have life in yourselves.
John 6:54he who is eating my flesh, and is drinking my blood, hath life age-during, and I will raise him up in the last day;He who takes my flesh for food and my blood for drink has eternal life: and I will take him up from the dead at the last day.He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 6:55for my flesh truly is food, and my blood truly is drink; My flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
John 6:56he who is eating my flesh, and is drinking my blood, doth remain in me, and I in him.He who takes my flesh for food and my blood for drink is in me and I in him.He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I in him.
John 6:57`According as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, he also who is eating me, even that one shall live because of me;As the living Father has sent me, and I have life because of the Father, even so he who takes me for his food will have life because of me.As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he who feeds on me, he will also live because of me.
John 6:58this is the bread that came down out of the heaven; not as your fathers did eat the manna, and died; he who is eating this bread shall live to the age.`This is the bread which has come down from heaven. It is not like the food which your fathers had: they took of the manna, and are dead; but he who takes this bread for food will have life for ever. This is the bread which came down out of heaven not as our fathers ate the manna, and died. He who eats this bread will live forever."
John 6:59These things he said in a synagogue, teaching in Capernaum;Jesus said these things in the Synagogue while he was teaching at Capernaum. These things he said in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.
John 6:60many, therefore, of his disciples having heard, said, `This word is hard; who is able to hear it?`Then, hearing this, a number of his disciples said, This is a hard saying; who is able to take in such teaching? Therefore many of his disciples, when they heard this, said, "This is a hard saying! Who can hear it?"
John 6:61And Jesus having known in himself that his disciples are murmuring about this, said to them, `Doth this stumble you? When Jesus became conscious that his disciples were protesting about what he said, he said to them, Does this give you trouble? But Jesus knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at this, said to them, "Does this cause you to stumble?
John 6:62if then ye may behold the Son of Man going up where he was before? What then will you say if you see the Son of man going up to where he was before? What if you would see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before?
John 6:63the spirit it is that is giving life; the flesh doth not profit anything; the sayings that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life; The spirit is the life giver; the flesh is of no value: the words which I have said to you are spirit and they are life.It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life.
John 6:64but there are certain of you who do not believe;` for Jesus had known from the beginning who they are who are not believing, and who is he who will deliver him up,But still some of you have no faith. For it was clear to Jesus from the first who they were who had no faith, and who it was who would be false to him.But there are some of you who don't believe." For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who didn't believe, and who it was who would betray him.
John 6:65and he said, `Because of this I have said to you No one is able to come unto me, if it may not have been given him from my Father.`And he said, This is why I said to you, No man is able to come to me if he is not given the power to do so by the Father. He said, "For this cause have I said to you that no one can come to me, except it be given to him by my Father."
John 6:66From this [time] many of his disciples went away backward, and were no more walking with him,Because of what he said, a number of the disciples went back and would no longer go with him.At this, many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
John 6:67Jesus, therefore, said to the twelve, `Do ye also wish to go away?`So Jesus said to the twelve, Have you a desire to go away?Jesus said therefore to the twelve, "You don't also want to go away, do you?"
John 6:68Simon Peter, therefore, answered him, `Sir, unto whom shall we go? thou hast sayings of life age-during;Then Simon Peter gave this answer: Lord, to whom are we to go? you have the words of eternal life;Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life.
John 6:69and we have believed, and we have known, that thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.`And we have faith and are certain that you are the Holy One of God.We have come to believe and know that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
John 6:70Jesus answered them, `Did not I choose you the twelve? and of you one is a devil. Then Jesus said, Did I not make a selection of you, the twelve, and one of you is a son of the Evil One?Jesus answered them, "Didn't I choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?"
John 6:71And he spake of Judas, Simon`s [son], Iscariot, for he was about to deliver him up, being one of the twelve. He was talking of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. It was he who was to be false to Jesus one of the twelve. Now he spoke of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, for it was he who would betray him, being one of the twelve.
