| Joel 1:1 | A word of Jehovah that hath been unto Joel, son of Pethuel: | The word of Jehovah that came to Joel the son of Pethuel. | The word of the Lord which came to Joel, the son of Pethuel. |
| Joel 1:2 | Hear this, ye aged ones, And give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land, Hath this been in your days? Or in the days of your fathers? | Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers? | Give ear to this, you old men, and take note, you people of the land. Has this ever been in your days, or in the days of your fathers? |
| Joel 1:3 | Concerning it to your sons talk ye, And your sons to their sons, And their sons to another generation. | Tell your children of it, and [let] your children [tell] their children, and their children another generation: | Give the story of it to your children, and let them give it to their children, and their children to another generation. |
| Joel 1:4 | What is left of the palmer-worm, eaten hath the locust, And what is left of the locust, Eaten hath the cankerworm, And what is left of the cankerworm, Eaten hath the caterpillar. | that which the palmer-worm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpillar eaten. | What the worm did not make a meal of, has been taken by the locust; and what the locust did not take, has been food for the plant-worm; and what the plant-worm did not take, has been food for the field-fly. |

| Joel 1:14 | Sanctify a fast, proclaim a restraint, Gather the elders all the inhabitants of the land, [Into] the house of Jehovah your God, | Hallow a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly, gather the elders, [and] all the inhabitants of the land to the house of Jehovah your God, and cry unto Jehovah. | Let a time be fixed for going without food, have a holy meeting, let the old men, even all the people of the land, come together to the house of the Lord your God, crying out to the Lord. |

For near [is] a day of Jehovah, And as destruction from the mighty it cometh. | Alas for the day! for the day of Jehovah is at hand, and as destruction from the Almighty shall it come. | Sorrow for the day! for the day of the Lord is near, and as destruction from the Ruler of all it will come. |

| Joel 1:17 | Rotted have scattered things under their clods, Desolated have been storehouses, Broken down have been granaries, For withered hath the corn. | The seeds are rotten under their clods, the granaries are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered. | The grains have become small and dry under the spade; the store-houses are made waste, the grain-stores are broken down; for the grain is dry and dead. |
| Joel 1:18 | How have cattle sighed! Perplexed have been droves of oxen, For there is no pasture for them, Also droves of sheep have been desolated. | How do the beasts groan! The herds of cattle are bewildered, for they have no pasture; the flocks of sheep also are in suffering. | What sounds of pain come from the beasts! the herds of cattle are at a loss because there is no grass for them; even the flocks of sheep are no longer to be seen. |
| Joel 1:19 | Unto Thee, O Jehovah, I do call, For fire hath consumed comely places of a wilderness, And a flame hath set on fire all trees of the field. | To thee, Jehovah, do I cry; for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned up all the trees of the field. | O Lord, my cry goes up to you: for fire has put an end to the grass-lands of the waste, and all the trees of the field are burned with its flame. |
| Joel 1:20 | Also the cattle of the field long for Thee, For dried up have been streams of water, And fire hath consumed comely places of a wilderness!` | The beasts of the field also cry unto thee; for the water-courses are dried, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness. | The beasts of the field are turning to you with desire: for the water-streams are dry and fire has put an end to the grass-lands of the waste. |
