Luke 2:1And it came to pass in those days, there went forth a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world be enrolledBut it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that a census should be made of all the habitable world.And it came to pass, that in those days there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that the whole world should be enrolled.
Luke 2:2this enrollment first came to pass when Cyrenius was governor of SyriaThe census itself first took place when Cyrenius had the government of Syria.This enrolling was first made by Cyrinus, the governor of Syria.
Luke 2:3and all were going to be enrolled, each to his proper city,And all went to be inscribed in the census roll, each to his own city:And all went to be enrolled, every one into his own city.
Luke 2:4and Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, that is called Bethlehem, because of his being of the house and family of David,and Joseph also went up from Galilee out of the city Nazareth to Judaea, to David's city, the which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem: because he was of the house and family of David,
Luke 2:5to enroll himself with Mary his betrothed wife, being with child.to be inscribed in the census roll with Mary who was betrothed to him [as his] wife, she being great with child.To be enrolled with Mary his espoused wife, who was with child.
Luke 2:6And it came to pass, in their being there, the days were fulfilled for her bringing forth,And it came to pass, while they were there, the days of her giving birth [to her child] were fulfilled,And it came to pass, that when they were there, her days were accomplished, that she should be delivered.
Luke 2:7and she brought forth her son the first-born, and wrapped him up, and laid him down in the manger, because there was not for them a place in the guest-chamber.and she brought forth her first-born son, and wrapped him up in swaddling-clothes and laid him in the manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him up in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
Luke 2:8And there were shepherds in the same region, lodging in the field, and keeping the night-watches over their flock,And there were shepherds in that country abiding without, and keeping watch by night over their flock.And there were in the same country shepherds watching, and keeping the night watches over their flock.
Luke 2:9and lo, a messenger of the Lord stood over them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they feared a great fear.And lo, an angel of [the] Lord was there by them, and [the] glory of [the] Lord shone around them, and they feared [with] great fear.And behold an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the brightness of God shone round about them; and they feared with a great fear.
Luke 2:10And the messenger said to them, `Fear not, for lo, I bring you good news of great joy, that shall be to all the peopleAnd the angel said to them, Fear not, for behold, I announce to you glad tidings of great joy, which shall be to all the people;And the angel said to them: Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, that shall be to all the people:
Luke 2:11because there was born to you to-day a Saviour who is Christ the Lord in the city of David,for to-day a Saviour has been born to you in David's city, who is Christ [the] Lord.For, this day, is born to you a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David.
Luke 2:12and this [is] to you the sign: Ye shall find a babe wrapped up, lying in the manger.`And this is the sign to you: ye shall find a babe wrapped in swaddling-clothes, and lying in a manger.And this shall be a sign unto you. You shall find the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in a manger.
Luke 2:13And suddenly there came with the messenger a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying,And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying,And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army, praising God, and saying:
Luke 2:14`Glory in the highest to God, and upon earth peace, among men good will.`Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good pleasure in men.Glory to God in the highest; and on earth peace to men of good will.
Luke 2:15And it came to pass, when the messengers were gone away from them to the heavens, that the men, the shepherds, said unto one another, `We may go over indeed unto Bethlehem, and see this thing that hath come to pass, that the Lord did make known to us.`And it came to pass, as the angels departed from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, Let us make our way then now as far as Bethlehem, and let us see this thing that is come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.And it came to pass, after the angels departed from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another: Let us go over to Bethlehem, and let us see this word that is come to pass, which the Lord hath shewed to us.
Luke 2:16And they came, having hasted, and found both Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in the manger,And they came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in the manger;And they came with haste; and they found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger.
Luke 2:17and having seen, they made known abroad concerning the saying spoken to them concerning the child.and having seen [it] they made known about the country the thing which had been said to them concerning this child.And seeing, they understood of the word that had been spoken to them concerning this child.
Luke 2:18And all who heard, did wonder concerning the things spoken by the shepherds unto them;And all who heard [it] wondered at the things said to them by the shepherds.And all that heard, wondered; and at those things that were told them by the shepherds.
Luke 2:19and Mary was preserving all these things, pondering in her heart;But Mary kept all these things [in her mind], pondering [them] in her heart.But Mary kept all these words, pondering them in her heart.
Luke 2:20and the shepherds turned back, glorifying and praising God, for all those things they heard and saw, as it was spoken unto them.And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all things which they had heard and seen, as it had been said to them.And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God, for all the things they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
Luke 2:21And when eight days were fulfilled to circumcise the child, then was his name called Jesus, having been so called by the messenger before his being conceived in the womb.And when eight days were fulfilled for circumcising him, his name was called Jesus, which was the name given by the angel before he had been conceived in the womb.And after eight days were accomplished, that the child should be circumcised, his name was called JESUS, which was called by the angel, before he was conceived in the womb.
Luke 2:22And when the days of their purification were fulfilled, according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem, to present to the Lord,And when the days were fulfilled for their purifying according to the law of Moses, they brought him to Jerusalem to present [him] to the LordAnd after the days of her purification, according to the law of Moses, were accomplished, they carried him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord:
Luke 2:23as it hath been written in the Law of the Lord, `Every male opening a womb shall be called holy to the Lord,`(as it is written in the law of [the] Lord: Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord),As it is written in the law of the Lord: Every male opening the womb shall be called holy to the Lord:
Luke 2:24and to give a sacrifice, according to that said in the Law of the Lord, `A pair of turtle-doves, or two young pigeons.`and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of [the] Lord: A pair of turtle doves, or two young pigeons.And to offer a sacrifice, according as it is written in the law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons:
Luke 2:25And lo, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name [is] Simeon, and this man is righteous and devout, looking for the comforting of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him,And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was just and pious, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and [the] Holy Spirit was upon him.And behold there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Ghost was in him.
Luke 2:26and it hath been divinely told him by the Holy Spirit not to see death before he may see the Christ of the Lord.And it was divinely communicated to him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death before he should see [the] Lord's Christ.And he had received an answer from the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Christ of the Lord.
Luke 2:27And he came in the Spirit to the temple, and in the parents bringing in the child Jesus, for their doing according to the custom of the law regarding him,And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and as the parents brought in the child Jesus that they might do for him according to the custom of the law,And he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when his parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law,
Luke 2:28then he took him in his arms, and blessed God, and he said,*he* received him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,He also took him into his arms, and blessed God, and said:
Luke 2:29`Now Thou dost send away Thy servant, Lord, according to Thy word, in peace,Lord, now thou lettest thy bondman go, according to thy word, in peace;Now thou dost dismiss thy servant, O Lord, according to thy word in peace;
Luke 2:30because mine eyes did see Thy salvation,for mine eyes have seen thy salvation,Because my eyes have seen thy salvation,
Luke 2:31which Thou didst prepare before the face of all the peoples,which thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples;Which thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples:
Luke 2:32a light to the uncovering of nations, and the glory of Thy people Israel.`a light for revelation of [the] Gentiles and [the] glory of thy people Israel.A light to the revelation of the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
Luke 2:33And Joseph and his mother were wondering at the things spoken concerning him,And his father and mother wondered at the things which were said concerning him.And his father and mother were wondering at those things which were spoken concerning him.
Luke 2:34and Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, `Lo, this [one] is set for the falling and rising again of many in Israel, and for a sign spoken againstAnd Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother, Lo, this [child] is set for the fall and rising up of many in Israel, and for a sign spoken against;And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother: Behold this child is set for the fall, and for the resurrection of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be contradicted;
Luke 2:35(and also thine own soul shall a sword pass through) that the reasonings of many hearts may be revealed.`(and even a sword shall go through thine own soul;) so that [the] thoughts may be revealed from many hearts.And thy own soul a sword shall pierce, that, out of many hearts, thoughts may be revealed.
Luke 2:36And there was Anna, a prophetess, daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher, she was much advanced in days, having lived with an husband seven years from her virginity,And there was a prophetess, Anna, daughter of Phanuel, of [the] tribe of Asher, who was far advanced in years, having lived with [her] husband seven years from her virginity,And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser; she was far advanced in years, and had lived with her husband seven years from her virginity.
Luke 2:37and she [is] a widow of about eighty-four years, who did depart not from the temple, with fasts and supplications serving, night and day,and herself a widow up to eighty-four years; who did not depart from the temple, serving night and day with fastings and prayers;And she was a widow until fourscore and four years; who departed not from the temple, by fastings and prayers serving night and day.
Luke 2:38and she, at that hour, having come in, was confessing, likewise, to the Lord, and was speaking concerning him, to all those looking for redemption in Jerusalem.and she coming up the same hour gave praise to the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who waited for redemption in Jerusalem.Now she, at the same hour, coming in, confessed to the Lord; and spoke of him to all that looked for the redemption of Israel.
Luke 2:39And when they finished all things, according to the Law of the Lord, they turned back to Galilee, to their city Nazareth;And when they had completed all things according to the law of [the] Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own city Nazareth.And after they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their city Nazareth.
Luke 2:40and the child grew and was strengthened in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.And the child grew and waxed strong [in spirit], filled with wisdom, and God's grace was upon him.And the child grew, and waxed strong, full of wisdom; and the grace of God was in him.
Luke 2:41And his parents were going yearly to Jerusalem, at the feast of the passover,And his parents went yearly to Jerusalem at the feast of the passover.And his parents went every year to Jerusalem, at the solemn day of the pasch,
Luke 2:42and when he became twelve years old, they having gone up to Jerusalem, according to the custom of the feast,And when he was twelve years old, and they went up [to Jerusalem] according to the custom of the feastAnd when he was twelve years old, they going up into Jerusalem, according to the custom of the feast,
Luke 2:43and having finished the days, in their returning the child Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, and Joseph and his mother did not know,and had completed the days, as they returned, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, and his parents knew not [of it];And having fulfilled the days, when they returned, the child Jesus remained in Jerusalem; and his parents knew it not.
Luke 2:44and, having supposed him to be in the company, they went a day`s journey, and were seeking him among the kindred and among the acquaintances,but, supposing him to be in the company that journeyed together, they went a day's journey, and sought him among their relations and acquaintances:And thinking that he was in the company, they came a day's journey, and sought him among their kinsfolks and acquaintance.
Luke 2:45and not having found him, they turned back to Jerusalem seeking him.and not having found him they returned to Jerusalem seeking him.And not finding him, they returned into Jerusalem, seeking him.
Luke 2:46And it came to pass, after three days, they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both hearing them and questioning them,And it came to pass, after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers and hearing them and asking them questions.And it came to pass, that, after three days, they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, hearing them, and asking them questions.
Luke 2:47and all those hearing him were astonished at his understanding and answers.And all who heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.And all that heard him were astonished at his wisdom and his answers.
Luke 2:48And, having seen him, they were amazed, and his mother said unto him, `Child, why didst thou thus to us? lo, thy father and I, sorrowing, were seeking thee.`And when they saw him they were amazed: and his mother said to him, Child, why hast thou dealt thus with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee distressed.And seeing him, they wondered. And his mother said to him: Son, why hast thou done so to us? behold thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
Luke 2:49And he said unto them, `Why [is it] that ye were seeking me? did ye not know that in the things of my Father it behoveth me to be?`And he said to them, Why [is it] that ye have sought me? did ye not know that I ought to be [occupied] in my Father's business?And he said to them: How is it that you sought me? did you not know, that I must be about my father's business?
Luke 2:50and they did not understand the saying that he spake to them,And they understood not the thing that he said to them.And they understood not the word that he spoke unto them.
Luke 2:51and he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and he was subject to them, and his mother was keeping all these sayings in her heart,And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and he was in subjection to them. And his mother kept all these things in her heart.And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them. And his mother kept all these words in her heart.
Luke 2:52and Jesus was advancing in wisdom, and in stature, and in favour with God and men.And Jesus advanced in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and men.And Jesus advanced in wisdom, and age, and grace with God and men.
