Titus 1:1Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of the choice ones of God, and an acknowledging of truth that [is] according to piety,Paul, bondman of God, and apostle of Jesus Christ according to [the] faith of God's elect, and knowledge of [the] truth which [is] according to piety;Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of the elect of God and the acknowledging of the truth, which is according to godliness:
Titus 1:2upon hope of life age-during, which God, who doth not lie, did promise before times of ages,in [the] hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the ages of time,Unto the hope of life everlasting, which God, who lieth not, hath promised before the times of the world:
Titus 1:3(and He manifested in proper times His word,) in preaching, which I was entrusted with, according to a charge of God our Saviour,but has manifested in its own due season his word, in [the] proclamation with which *I* have been entrusted, according to [the] commandment of our Saviour God;But hath in due times manifested his word in preaching, which is committed to me according to the commandment of God our Savior:
Titus 1:4to Titus true child according to a common faith: Grace, kindness, peace, from God the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour!to Titus, my own child according to [the] faith common [to us]: Grace and peace from God [the] Father, and Christ Jesus our Saviour.To Titus my beloved son, according to the common faith, grace and peace from God the Father, and from Christ Jesus our Savior.
Titus 1:5For this cause left I thee in Crete, that the things lacking thou mayest arrange, and mayest set down in every city elders, as I did appoint to thee;For this cause I left thee in Crete, that thou mightest go on to set right what remained [unordered], and establish elders in each city, as *I* had ordered thee:For this cause I left thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and shouldest ordain priests in every city, as I also appointed thee:
Titus 1:6if any one is blameless, of one wife a husband, having children stedfast, not under accusation of riotous living or insubordinateif any one be free from all charge [against him], husband of one wife, having believing children not accused of excess or unruly.If any be without crime, the husband of one wife, having faithful children, not accused of riot, or unruly.
Titus 1:7for it behoveth the overseer to be blameless, as God`s steward, not self-pleased, nor irascible, not given to wine, not a striker, not given to filthy lucre;For the overseer must be free from all charge [against him] as God's steward; not headstrong, not passionate, not disorderly through wine, not a striker, not seeking gain by base means;For a bishop must be without crime, as the steward of God: not proud, not subject to anger, not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre:
Titus 1:8but a lover of strangers, a lover of good men, sober-minded, righteous, kind, self-controlled,but hospitable, a lover of goodness, discreet, just, pious, temperate,But given to hospitality, gentle, sober, just, holy, continent:
Titus 1:9holding according to the teaching to the stedfast word, that he may be able also to exhort in the sound teaching, and the gainsayers to convict;clinging to the faithful word according to the doctrine taught, that he may be able both to encourage with sound teaching and refute gainsayers.Embracing that faithful word which is according to doctrine, that he may be able to exhort in sound doctrine, and to convince the gainsayers.
Titus 1:10for there are many both insubordinate, vain-talkers, and mind-deceivers especially they of the circumcisionFor there are many and disorderly vain speakers and deceivers of people's minds, specially those of [the] circumcision,For there are also many disobedient, vain talkers, and seducers: especially they who are of the circumcision:
Titus 1:11whose mouth it behoveth to stop, who whole households do overturn, teaching what things it behoveth not, for filthy lucre`s sake.who must have their mouths stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which ought not [to be taught] for the sake of base gain.Who must be reproved, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.
Titus 1:12A certain one of them, a prophet of their own, said `Cretans! always liars, evil beasts, lazy bellies!`One of themselves, a prophet of their own, has said, Cretans are always liars, evil wild beasts, lazy gluttons.One of them a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are always liars, evil beasts, slothful bellies.
Titus 1:13this testimony is true; for which cause convict them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,This testimony is true; for which cause rebuke them severely, that they may be sound in the faith,This testimony is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
Titus 1:14not giving heed to Jewish fables and commands of men, turning themselves away from the truth;not turning [their] minds to Jewish fables and commandments of men turning away from the truth.Not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men, who turn themselves away from the truth.
Titus 1:15all things, indeed, [are] pure to the pure, and to the defiled and unstedfast [is] nothing pure, but of them defiled [are] even the mind and the conscience;All things [are] pure to the pure; but to the defiled and unbelieving nothing [is] pure; but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.All things are clean to the clean: but to them that are defiled, and to unbelievers, nothing is clean: but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.
Titus 1:16God they profess to know, and in the works they deny [Him], being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work disapproved.They profess to know God, but in works deny [him], being abominable, and disobedient, and found worthless as to every good work.They profess that they know God: but in their works they deny him; being abominable, and incredulous, and to every good work reprobate.
