Acts 12:1And about that time, Herod the king put forth his hands, to do evil to certain of those of the assembly,At that time Herod the king laid his hands on some of those of the assembly to do them hurt,Now about that time, Herod the king stretched forth his hands to afflict certain of the church.
Acts 12:2and he killed James, the brother of John, with the sword,and slew James, the brother of John, with the sword.And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.
Acts 12:3and having seen that it is pleasing to the Jews, he added to lay hold of Peter also and they were the days of the unleavened foodAnd seeing that it was pleasing to the Jews, he went on to take Peter also: (and they were the days of unleavened bread:)And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. Then were the days of unleavened bread.
Acts 12:4whom also having seized, he did put in prison, having delivered [him] to four quaternions of soldiers to guard him, intending after the passover to bring him forth to the people.whom having seized he put in prison, having delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep, purposing after the passover to bring him out to the people.And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after the passover to bring him forth to the people.
Acts 12:5Peter, therefore, indeed, was kept in the prison, and fervent prayer was being made by the assembly unto God for him,Peter therefore was kept in the prison; but unceasing prayer was made by the assembly to God concerning him.Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing by the church to God for him.
Acts 12:6and when Herod was about to bring him forth, the same night was Peter sleeping between two soldiers, having been bound with two chains, guards also before the door were keeping the prison,And when Herod was going to bring him forth, that night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and guards before the door kept the prison.And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains; and the keepers before the door kept the prison.
Acts 12:7and lo, a messenger of the Lord stood by, and a light shone in the buildings, and having smitten Peter on the side, he raised him up, saying, `Rise in haste,` and his chains fell from off [his] hands.And lo, an angel of [the] Lord came there, and a light shone in the prison: and having smitten the side of Peter, he roused him up, saying, Rise up quickly. And his chains fell off his hands.And behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison; and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.
Acts 12:8The messenger also said to him, `Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals;` and he did so; and he saith to him, `Put thy garment round and be following me;`And the angel said to him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And he did so. And he says to him, Cast thine upper garment about thee and follow me.And the angel said to him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals; and so he did. And he saith to him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.
Acts 12:9and having gone forth, he was following him, and he knew not that it is true that which is done through the messenger, and was thinking he saw a vision,And going forth he followed [him] and did not know that what was happening by means of the angel was real, but supposed he saw a vision.And he went out, and followed him, and knew not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.
Acts 12:10and having passed through a first ward, and a second, they came unto the iron gate that is leading to the city, which of its own accord did open to them, and having gone forth, they went on through one street, and immediately the messenger departed from him.And having passed through a first and second guard, they came to the iron gate which leads into the city, which opened to them of itself; and going forth they went down one street, and immediately the angel left him.When they were past the first and the second ward, they came to the iron gate that leadeth to the city; which opened to them of its own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.
Acts 12:11And Peter having come to himself, said, `Now I have known of a truth that the Lord did sent forth His messenger, and did deliver me out of the hand of Herod, and all the expectation of the people of the Jews;`And Peter, being come to himself, said, Now I know certainly that [the] Lord has sent forth his angel and has taken me out of the hand of Herod and all the expectation of the people of the Jews.And when Peter had come to himself, he said, Now I know with certainty, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.
Acts 12:12also, having considered, he came unto the house of Mary, the mother of John, who is surnamed Mark, where there were many thronged together and praying.And having become clearly conscious [in himself], he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John who was surnamed Mark, where were many gathered together and praying.And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John whose surname was Mark; where many were assembled, praying.
Acts 12:13And Peter having knocked at the door of the porch, there came a damsel to hearken, by name Rhoda,And when he had knocked at the door of the entry, a maid came to listen, by name Rhoda;And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.
Acts 12:14and having known the voice of Peter, from the joy she did not open the porch, but having run in, told of the standing of Peter before the porch,and having recognised the voice of Peter, through joy did not open the entry, but running in, reported that Peter was standing before the entry.And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told that Peter stood before the gate
Acts 12:15and they said unto her, `Thou art mad;` and she was confidently affirming [it] to be so, and they said, `It is his messenger;`And they said to her, Thou art mad. But she maintained that it was so. And they said, It is his angel.And they said to her, Thou art insane. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then they said, It is his angel.
Acts 12:16and Peter was continuing knocking, and having opened, they saw him, and were astonished,But Peter continued knocking: and having opened, they saw him and were astonished.But Peter continued knocking. And when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.
Acts 12:17and having beckoned to them with the hand to be silent, he declared to them how the Lord brought him out of the prison, and he said, `Declare to James and to the brethren these things;` and having gone forth, he went on to another place.And having made a sign to them with his hand to be silent, he related [to them] how the Lord had brought him out of prison; and he said, Report these things to James and to the brethren. And he went out and went to another place.But he beckoning to them with the hand to hold their peace, declared to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go, show these things to James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.
Acts 12:18And day having come, there was not a little stir among the soldiers what then was become of Peter,And when it was day there was no small disturbance among the soldiers, what then was become of Peter.Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.
Acts 12:19and Herod having sought for him, and not having found, having examined the guards, did command [them] to be led away to punishment, and having gone down from Judea to Cesarea, he was abiding [there].And Herod having sought him and not found him, having examined the guards, commanded [them] to be executed. And he went down from Judaea to Caesarea and stayed [there].And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judea to Cesarea, and there abode.
Acts 12:20And Herod was highly displeased with the Tyrians and Sidonians, and with one accord they came unto him, and having made a friend of Blastus, who [is] over the bed-chambers of the king, they were asking peace, because of their country being nourished from the king`s;And he was in bitter hostility with [the] Tyrians and Sidonians; but they came to him with one accord, and, having gained Blastus the king's chamberlain, sought peace, because their country was nourished by the king's.And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon. But they came with one accord to him, and having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace, because their country was nourished by the king's country.
Acts 12:21and on a set day, Herod having arrayed himself in kingly apparel, and having sat down upon the tribunal, was making an oration unto them,And on a set day, clothed in royal apparel and sitting on the elevated seat [of honour], Herod made a public oration to them.And upon a set day, Herod arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration to them.
Acts 12:22and the populace were shouting, `The voice of a god, and not of a man;`And the people cried out, A god's voice and not a man's.And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.
Acts 12:23and presently there smote him a messenger of the Lord, because he did not give the glory to God, and having been eaten of worms, he expired.And immediately an angel of [the] Lord smote him, because he did not give the glory to God, and he expired, eaten of worms.And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten by worms, and died.
Acts 12:24And the word of God did grow and did multiply,But the word of God grew and spread itself.But the word of God grew and multiplied.
Acts 12:25and Barnabas and Saul did turn back out of Jerusalem, having fulfilled the ministration, having taken also with [them] John, who was surnamed Mark.And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, having fulfilled the service [entrusted to them], taking also with them John, surnamed Mark.And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark.
