Acts 9:1And Saul, yet breathing of threatening and slaughter to the disciples of the Lord, having gone to the chief priest,But Saul, still breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, came to the high priestNow Saul, whose every breath was a threat of destruction for the disciples of the Lord,
Acts 9:2did ask from him letters to Damascus, unto the synagogues, that if he may find any being of the way, both men and women, he may bring them bound to Jerusalem.and asked of him letters to Damascus, to the synagogues, so that if he found any who were of the way, both men and women, he might bring [them] bound to Jerusalem.went to the High Priest and begged from him letters addressed to the synagogues in Damascus, in order that if he found any believers there, either men or women, he might bring them in chains to Jerusalem.
Acts 9:3And in the going, he came nigh to Damascus, and suddenly there shone round about him a light from the heaven,But as he was journeying, it came to pass that he drew near to Damascus; and suddenly there shone round about him a light out of heaven,But on the journey, as he was getting near Damascus, suddenly there flashed round him a light from Heaven;
Acts 9:4and having fallen upon the earth, he heard a voice saying to him, `Saul, Saul, why me dost thou persecute?`and falling on the earth he heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul, why dost thou persecute me?and falling to the ground he heard a voice which said to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?"
Acts 9:5And he said, `Who art thou, Lord?` and the Lord said, `I am Jesus whom thou dost persecute; hard for thee at the pricks to kick;`And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And he [said], *I* am Jesus, whom *thou* persecutest."Who art thou, Lord?" he asked. "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting," was the reply.
Acts 9:6trembling also, and astonished, he said, `Lord, what dost thou wish me to do?` and the Lord [said] unto him, `Arise, and enter into the city, and it shall be told thee what it behoveth thee to do.`But rise up and enter into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do."But rise and go to the city, and you will be told what you are to do.
Acts 9:7And the men who are journeying with him stood speechless, hearing indeed the voice but seeing no one,But the men who were travelling with him stood speechless, hearing the voice but beholding no one.Meanwhile the men who travelled with Saul were standing dumb with amazement, hearing a sound, but seeing no one.
Acts 9:8and Saul arose from the earth, and his eyes having been opened, he beheld no one, and leading him by the hand they brought him to Damascus,And Saul rose up from the earth, and his eyes being opened he saw no one. But leading [him] by the hand they brought him into Damascus.Then he rose from the ground, but when he had opened his eyes, he could not see, and they led him by the arm and brought him to Damascus.
Acts 9:9and he was three days without seeing, and he did neither eat nor drink.And he was three days without seeing, and neither ate nor drank.And for two days he remained without sight, and did not eat or drink anything.
Acts 9:10And there was a certain disciple in Damascus, by name Ananias, and the Lord said unto him in a vision, `Ananias;` and he said, `Behold me, Lord;`And there was a certain disciple in Damascus by name Ananias. And the Lord said to him in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, [here am] I, Lord.Now in Damascus there was a disciple of the name of Ananias. The Lord spoke to him in a vision, saying, "Ananias!" "I am here, Lord," he answered.
Acts 9:11and the Lord [saith] unto him, `Having risen, go on unto the street that is called Straight, and seek in the house of Judas, [one] by name Saul of Tarsus, for, lo, he doth pray,And the Lord [said] to him, Rise up and go into the street which is called Straight, and seek in the house of Judas one by name Saul, [he is] of Tarsus: for, behold, he is praying,"Rise," said the Lord, "and go to Straight Street, and inquire at the house of Judas for a man called Saul, from Tarsus, for he is actually praying.
Acts 9:12and he saw in a vision a man, by name Ananias, coming in, and putting a hand on him, that he may see again.`and has seen [in a vision] a man by name Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him, so that he should see.He has seen a man called Ananias come and lay his hands upon him so that he may recover his sight."
Acts 9:13And Ananias answered, `Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how many evils he did to Thy saints in Jerusalem,And Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard from many concerning this man how much evil he has done to thy saints at Jerusalem;"Lord," answered Ananias, "I have heard about that man from many, and I have heard of the great mischief he has done to Thy people in Jerusalem;
Acts 9:14and here he hath authority from the chief priests, to bind all those calling on Thy name.`and here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call upon thy name.and here he is authorized by the High Priests to arrest all who call upon Thy name."
Acts 9:15And the Lord said unto him, `Be going on, because a choice vessel to Me is this one, to bear My name before nations and kings the sons also of Israel;And the Lord said to him, Go, for this [man] is an elect vessel to me, to bear my name before both nations and kings and [the] sons of Israel:"Go," replied the Lord; "he is a chosen instrument of Mine to carry My name to the Gentiles and to kings and to the descendants of Israel.
Acts 9:16for I will shew him how many things it behoveth him for My name to suffer.`for *I* will shew to him how much he must suffer for my name.For I will let him know the great sufferings which he must pass through for My sake."
Acts 9:17And Ananias went away, and did enter into the house, and having put upon him [his] hands, said, `Saul, brother, the Lord hath sent me Jesus who did appear to thee in the way in which thou wast coming that thou mayest see again, and mayest be filled with the Holy Spirit.`And Ananias went and entered into the house; and laying his hands upon him he said, Saul, brother, the Lord has sent me, Jesus that appeared to thee in the way in which thou camest, that thou mightest see, and be filled with [the] Holy Spirit.So Ananias went and entered the house; and, laying his two hands upon Saul, said, "Saul, brother, the Lord even Jesus who appeared to you on your journey has sent me, that you may recover your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit."
Acts 9:18And immediately there fell from his eyes as it were scales, he saw again also presently, and having risen, was baptized,And straightway there fell from his eyes as it were scales, and he saw, and rising up was baptised;Instantly there dropped from his eyes what seemed to be scales, and he could see once more. Upon this he rose and received baptism;
Acts 9:19and having received nourishment, was strengthened, and Saul was with the disciples in Damascus certain days,and, having received food, got strength. And he was with the disciples who [were] in Damascus certain days.after which he took food and regained his strength. Then he remained some little time with the disciples in Damascus.
Acts 9:20and immediately in the synagogues he was preaching the Christ, that he is the Son of God.And straightway in the synagogues he preached Jesus that *he* is the Son of God.And in the synagogues he began at once to proclaim Jesus as the Son of God;
Acts 9:21And all those hearing were amazed, and said, `Is not this he who laid waist in Jerusalem those calling on this name, and hither to this intent had come, that he might bring them bound to the chief priests?`And all who heard were astonished and said, Is not this *he* who destroyed in Jerusalem those who called on this name, and here was come for this purpose, that he might bring them bound to the chief priests?and his hearers were all amazed, and began to ask one another, "Is not this the man who in Jerusalem tried to exterminate those who called upon that Name, and came here on purpose to carry them off in chains to the High Priests?"
Acts 9:22And Saul was still more strengthened, and he was confounding the Jews dwelling in Damascus, proving that this is the Christ.But Saul increased the more in power, and confounded the Jews who dwelt in Damascus, proving that this is the Christ.Saul, however, gained more and more influence, and as for the Jews living in Damascus, he bewildered them with his proofs that Jesus is the Christ.
Acts 9:23And when many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel together to kill him,Now when many days were fulfilled, the Jews consulted together to kill him.At length the Jews plotted to kill Saul;
Acts 9:24and their counsel against [him] was known to Saul; they were also watching the gates both day and night, that they may kill him,But their plot became known to Saul. And they watched also the gates both day and night, that they might kill him;but information of their intention was given to him. They even watched the gates, day and night, in order to murder him;
Acts 9:25and the disciples having taken him, by night did let him down by the wall, letting down in a basket.but the disciples took him by night and let him down through the wall, lowering him in a basket.but his disciples took him by night and let him down through the wall, lowering him in a hamper.
Acts 9:26And Saul, having come to Jerusalem, did try to join himself to the disciples, and they were all afraid of him, not believing that he is a disciple,And having arrived at Jerusalem he essayed to join himself to the disciples, and all were afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple.So he came to Jerusalem and made several attempts to associate with the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, being in doubt as to whether he himself was a disciple.
Acts 9:27and Barnabas having taken him, brought [him] unto the apostles, and did declare to them how in the way he saw the Lord, and that he spake to him, and how in Damascus he was speaking boldly in the name of Jesus.But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles, and related to them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had spoken boldly in the name of Jesus.Barnabas, however, came to his assistance. He brought Saul to the Apostles, and related to them how, on his journey, he had seen the Lord, and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had fearlessly taught in the name of Jesus.
Acts 9:28And he was with them, coming in and going out in Jerusalem,And he was with them coming in and going out at Jerusalem,Henceforth Saul was one of them, going in and out of the city,
Acts 9:29and speaking boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, he was both speaking and disputing with the Hellenists, and they were taking in hand to kill him,and speaking boldly in the name of the Lord. And he spoke and discussed with the Hellenists; but they sought to kill him.and speaking fearlessly in the name of the Lord. And he often talked with the Hellenists and had discussions with them.
Acts 9:30and the brethren having known, brought him down to Cesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus.And the brethren knowing it, brought him down to Caesarea and sent him away to Tarsus.But they kept trying to take his life. On learning this, the brethren brought him down to Caesarea, and then sent him by sea to Tarsus.
Acts 9:31Then, indeed, the assemblies throughout all Judea, and Galilee, and Samaria, had peace, being built up, and, going on in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied.The assemblies then throughout the whole of Judaea and Galilee and Samaria had peace, being edified and walking in the fear of the Lord, and were increased through the comfort of the Holy Spirit.The Church, however, throughout the whole of Judaea, Galilee and Samaria, had peace and was spiritually built up; and grew in numbers, living in the fear of the Lord and receiving encouragement from the Holy Spirit.
Acts 9:32And it came to pass that Peter passing throughout all [quarters], came down also unto the saints who were dwelling at Lydda,Now it came to pass that Peter, passing through all [quarters], descended also to the saints who inhabited Lydda.Now Peter, as he went to town after town, came down also to God's people at Lud.
Acts 9:33and he found there a certain man, Aeneas by name for eight years laid upon a couch who was paralytic,And he found there a certain man, Aeneas by name, who had been lying for eight years upon a couch, who was paralysed.There he found a man of the name of Aeneas, who for eight years had kept his bed, through being paralysed.
Acts 9:34and Peter said to him, `Aeneas, heal thee doth Jesus the Christ; arise and spread for thyself;` and immediately he rose,And Peter said to him, Aeneas, Jesus, the Christ, heals thee: rise up, and make thy couch for thyself. And straightway he rose up.Peter said to him, "Aeneas, Jesus Christ cures you. Rise and make your own bed." He at once rose to his feet.
Acts 9:35and all those dwelling at Lydda, and Saron saw him, and did turn to the Lord.And all who inhabited Lydda and the Saron saw him, who turned to the Lord.And all the people of Lud and Sharon saw him; and they turned to the Lord.
Acts 9:36And in Joppa there was a certain female disciple, by name Tabitha, (which interpreted, is called Dorcas,) this woman was full of good works and kind acts that she was doing;And in Joppa there was a certain female disciple, by name Tabitha, which being interpreted means Dorcas. She was full of good works and alms-deeds which she did.Among the disciples at Jaffa was a woman called Tabitha, or, as the name may be translated, `Dorcas.' Her life was wholly devoted to the good and charitable actions which she was constantly doing.
Acts 9:37and it came to pass in those days she, having ailed, died, and having bathed her, they laid her in an upper chamber,And it came to pass in those days that she grew sick and died; and, having washed her, they put her in [the] upper room.But, as it happened, just at that time she was taken ill and died. After washing her body they laid it out in a room upstairs.
Acts 9:38and Lydda being nigh to Joppa, the disciples having heard that Peter is in that [place], sent two men unto him, calling on him not to delay to come through unto them.But Lydda being near to Joppa, the disciples having heard that Peter was there, sent two men to him, beseeching him, Thou must not delay coming to us.Lud, however, being near Jaffa, the disciples, who had heard that Peter was at Lud, sent two men to him with an urgent request that he would come across to them without delay.
Acts 9:39And Peter having risen, went with them, whom having come, they brought into the upper chamber, and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing coats and garments, as many as Dorcas was making while she was with them.And Peter rising up went with them, whom, when arrived, they brought up into the upper chamber; and all the widows stood by him weeping and shewing him the body-coats and garments which Dorcas had made while she was with them.So Peter rose and went with them. On his arrival they took him upstairs, and the widow women all came and stood by his side, weeping and showing him the underclothing and cloaks and garments of all kinds which Dorcas used to make while she was still with them.
Acts 9:40And Peter having put them all forth without, having bowed the knees, did pray, and having turned unto the body said, `Tabitha, arise;` and she opened her eyes, and having seen Peter, she sat up,But Peter, putting them all out, and kneeling down, prayed. And, turning to the body, he said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes, and, seeing Peter, sat up.Peter, however, putting every one out of the room, knelt down and prayed, and then turning to the body, he said, "Tabitha, rise." Dorcas at once opened her eyes, and seeing Peter, sat up.
Acts 9:41and having given her [his] hand, he lifted her up, and having called the saints and the widows, he presented her alive,And having given her [his] hand, he raised her up, and having called the saints and the widows, presented her living.Then, giving her his hand, he raised her to her feet and, calling to him God's people and the widows, he gave her back to them alive.
Acts 9:42and it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed on the Lord;And it became known throughout the whole of Joppa, and many believed on the Lord.This incident became known throughout Jaffa, and many believed in the Lord;
Acts 9:43and it came to pass, that he remained many days in Joppa, with a certain one, Simon a tanner.And it came to pass that he remained many days in Joppa with a certain Simon, a tanner.and Peter remained for a considerable time at Jaffa, staying at the house of a man called Simon, a tanner.
