Mark 13:1 | And as he is going forth out of the temple, one of his disciples saith to him, `Teacher, see! what stones! and what buildings!` | And as he was going out of the temple, one of his disciples says to him, Teacher, see what stones and what buildings! | As He was leaving the Temple, one of His disciples exclaimed, "Look, Rabbi, what wonderful stones! what wonderful buildings!" |
Mark 13:2 | and Jesus answering said to him, `Seest thou these great buildings? there may not be left a stone upon a stone, that may not be thrown down.` | And Jesus answering said to him, Seest thou these great buildings? not a stone shall be left upon a stone, which shall not be thrown down. | "You see all these great buildings?" Jesus replied; "not one stone will be left here upon another not thrown down." |
Mark 13:3 | And as he is sitting at the mount of the Olives, over-against the temple, Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, were questioning him by himself, | And as he sat on the mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, | He was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite to the Temple, when Peter, James, John, and Andrew, apart from the others asked Him, |
Mark 13:4 | `Tell us when these things shall be? and what [is] the sign when all these may be about to be fulfilled?` | Tell us, when shall these things be, and what is the sign when all these things are going to be fulfilled? | "Tell us, When will these things be? and what will be the sign when all these predictions are on the point of being fulfilled?" |
Mark 13:5 | And Jesus answering them, began to say, `Take heed lest any one may lead you astray, | And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any one mislead you. | So Jesus began to say to them: "Take care that no one misleads you. |
Mark 13:6 | for many shall come in my name, saying I am [he], and many they shall lead astray; | For many shall come in my name, saying, It is *I*, and shall mislead many. | Many will come assuming my name and saying, `I am He;' and they will mislead many. |
Mark 13:7 | and when ye may hear of wars and reports of wars, be not troubled, for these behove to be, but the end [is] not yet; | But when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be not disturbed, for [this] must happen, but the end is not yet. | But when you hear of wars and rumours of wars, do not be alarmed: come they must, but the End is not yet. |
Mark 13:8 | for nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles; beginnings of sorrows [are] these. | For nation shall rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be earthquakes in [different] places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these things [are the] beginnings of throes. | For nation will rise in arms against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. These miseries are but like the early pains of childbirth. |
Mark 13:9 | `And take ye heed to yourselves, for they shall deliver you up to sanhedrims, and to synagogues, ye shall be beaten, and before governors and kings ye shall be set for my sake, for a testimony to them; | But *ye*, take heed to yourselves, for they shall deliver you up to sanhedrims and to synagogues: ye shall be beaten and brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them; | "You yourselves must be on your guard. They will deliver you up to Sanhedrins; you will be brought into synagogues and cruelly beaten; and you will stand before governors and kings for my sake, to be witnesses to them for me. |
Mark 13:10 | and to all the nations it behoveth first that the good news be proclaimed. | and the gospel must first be preached to all the nations. | But the proclamation of the Good News must be carried to all the Gentiles before the End comes. |
Mark 13:11 | `And when they may lead you, delivering up, be not anxious beforehand what ye may speak, nor premeditate, but whatever may be given to you in that hour, that speak ye, for it is not ye who are speaking, but the Holy Spirit. | But when they shall lead you away to deliver you up, be not careful beforehand as to what ye shall say, [nor prepare your discourse]: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak; for *ye* are not the speakers, but the Holy Spirit. | When however they are marching you along under arrest, do not be anxious beforehand about what you are to say, but speak what is given you when the time comes; for it will not be you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. |
Mark 13:12 | `And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and father child, and children shall rise up against parents, and shall put them to death, | But brother shall deliver up brother to death, and father child; and children shall rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death. | "Brother will betray brother to be killed, and fathers will betray children; and children will rise against their parents and have them put to death. |
Mark 13:13 | and ye shall be hated by all because of my name, but he who hath endured to the end he shall be saved. | And ye will be hated of all on account of my name; but he that has endured to the end, *he* shall be saved. | You will be objects of universal hatred because you are called by my name, but those who stand firm to the End will be saved. |
Mark 13:14 | `And when ye may see the abomination of the desolation, that was spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (whoever is reading let him understand), then those in Judea, let them flee to the mountains; | But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation standing where it should not, (he that reads let him consider [it],) then let those in Judaea flee to the mountains; | "As soon, however, as you see the Abomination of Desolation standing where he ought not" let the reader observe these words "then let those in Judaea escape to the hills; |
Mark 13:15 | and he upon the house-top, let him not come down to the house, nor come in to take anything out of his house; | and him that is upon the housetop not come down into the house, nor enter [into it] to take away anything out of his house; | let him who is on the roof not come down and enter the house to fetch anything out of it; |
Mark 13:16 | and he who is in the field, let him not turn to the things behind, to take up his garment. | and him that is in the field not return back to take his garment. | and let not him who is in the field turn back to pick up his outer garment. |
Mark 13:17 | `And wo to those with child, and to those giving suck, in those days; | But woe to those that are with child and to those that give suck in those days! | And alas for the women who at that time are with child or have infants! |
Mark 13:18 | and pray ye that your flight may not be in winter, | And pray that it may not be in winter time; | "But pray that it may not come in the winter. |
Mark 13:19 | for those days shall be tribulation, such as hath not been from the beginning of the creation that God created, till now, and may not be; | for those days shall be distress such as there has not been the like since [the] beginning of creation which God created, until now, and never shall be; | For those will be times of suffering the like of which has never been from the first creation of God's world until now, and assuredly never will be again; |
Mark 13:20 | and if the Lord did not shorten the days, no flesh had been saved; but because of the chosen, whom He did choose to Himself, He did shorten the days. | and if [the] Lord had not cut short those days, no flesh should have been saved; but on account of the elect whom he has chosen, he has cut short those days. | and but for the fact that the Lord has cut short those days, no one would escape; but for the sake of His own People whom He has chosen for Himself He has cut short the days. |
Mark 13:21 | `And then, if any may say to you, Lo, here [is] the Christ, or, Lo, there, ye may not believe; | And then if any one say to you, Lo, here [is] the Christ, or Lo, there, believe [it] not. | "At that time if any one says to you, `See, here is the Christ!' or `See, He is there!' do not believe it. |
Mark 13:22 | for there shall rise false Christs and false prophets, and they shall give signs and wonders, to seduce, if possible, also the chosen; | For false Christs and false prophets will arise, and give signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. | For there will rise up false Christs and false prophets, displaying signs and prodigies with a view to lead astray if indeed that were possible even God's own People. |
Mark 13:23 | and ye, take heed; lo, I have foretold you all things. | But do *ye* take heed: behold, I have told you all things beforehand. | But as for yourselves, be on your guard: I have forewarned you of everything. |
Mark 13:24 | `But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, | But in those days, after that distress, the sun shall be darkened and the moon shall not give its light; | "At that time, however, after that distress, the sun will be darkened and the moon will not shed her light; |
Mark 13:25 | and the stars of the heaven shall be falling, and the powers that are in the heavens shall be shaken. | and the stars of heaven shall be falling down, and the powers which are in the heavens shall be shaken; | the stars will be seen falling from the firmament, and the forces which are in the heavens will be disordered and disturbed. |
Mark 13:26 | `And then they shall see the Son of Man coming in clouds with much power and glory, | and then shall they see the Son of man coming in clouds with great power and glory; | And then will they see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. |
Mark 13:27 | and then he shall send his messengers, and gather together his chosen from the four winds, from the end of the earth unto the end of heaven. | and then shall he send his angels and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from end of earth to end of heaven. | Then He will send forth the angels and gather together His chosen People from north, south, east and west, from the remotest parts of the earth and the sky. |
Mark 13:28 | `And from the fig-tree learn ye the simile: when the branch may already become tender, and may put forth the leaves, ye know that nigh is the summer; | But learn the parable from the fig-tree: when its branch already becomes tender and puts forth the leaves, ye know that the summer is near. | "Learn from the fig-tree the lesson it teaches. As soon as its branch has become soft and it is bursting into leaf, you know that summer is near. |
Mark 13:29 | so ye, also, when these ye may see coming to pass, ye know that it is nigh, at the doors. | Thus also *ye*, when ye see these things happening, know that it is near, at the doors. | So also do you, when you see these things happening, be sure that He is near, at your very door. |
Mark 13:30 | Verily I say to you, that this generation may not pass away till all these things may come to pass; | Verily I say unto you, This generation shall in no wise pass away, till all these things take place. | I tell you in solemn truth that the present generation will certainly not pass away without all these things having first taken place. |
Mark 13:31 | the heaven and the earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. | The heaven and the earth shall pass away, but my words shall in no wise pass away. | Earth and sky will pass away, but it is certain that my words will not pass away. |
Mark 13:32 | `And concerning that day and the hour no one hath known not even the messengers who are in the heaven, not even the Son except the Father. | But of that day or of that hour no one knows, neither the angels who are in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father. | "But as to that day or the exact time no one knows not even the angels in Heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. |
Mark 13:33 | Take heed, watch and pray, for ye have not known when the time is; | Take heed, watch and pray, for ye do not know when the time is: | Take care, be on the alert, and pray; for you do not know when it will happen. |
Mark 13:34 | as a man who is gone abroad, having left his house, and given to his servants the authority, and to each one his work, did command also the porter that he may watch; | [it is] as a man gone out of the country, having left his house and given to his bondmen the authority, and to each one his work, and commanded the doorkeeper that he should watch. | It is like a man living abroad who has left his house, and given the management to his servants to each one his special duty and has ordered the porter to keep awake. |
Mark 13:35 | watch ye, therefore, for ye have not known when the lord of the house doth come, at even, or at midnight, or at cock-crowing, or at the morning; | Watch therefore, for ye do not know when the master of the house comes: evening, or midnight, or cock-crow, or morning; | Be wakeful therefore, for you know not when the master of the house is coming in the evening, at midnight, at cock-crow, or at dawn. |
Mark 13:36 | lest, having come suddenly, he may find you sleeping; | lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. | Beware lest He should arrive unexpectedly and find you asleep. |
Mark 13:37 | and what I say to you, I say to all, Watch.` | But what I say to you, I say to all, Watch. | Moreover, what I say to you I say to all Be wakeful!" |
