Matthew 4:1Then Jesus was led up to the wilderness by the Spirit, to be tempted by the Devil,Then Jesus was carried up into the wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted of the devil:At that time Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the Desert in order to be tempted by the Devil.
Matthew 4:2and having fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he did hunger.and having fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he hungered.There He fasted for forty days and nights; and after that He suffered from hunger.
Matthew 4:3And the Tempter having come to him said, `If Son thou art of God speak that these stones may become loaves.`And the tempter coming up to him said, If thou be Son of God, speak, that these stones may become loaves of bread.So the Tempter came and said, "If you are the Son of God, command these stones to turn into loaves."
Matthew 4:4But he answering said, `It hath been written, Not upon bread alone doth man live, but upon every word coming forth from the mouth of God.`But he answering said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word which goes out through God's mouth."It is written," replied Jesus, "`It is not on bread alone that a man shall live, but on whatsoever God shall appoint.'"
Matthew 4:5Then doth the Devil take him to the [holy] city, and doth set him on the pinnacle of the temple,Then the devil takes him to the holy city, and sets him upon the edge of the temple,Then the Devil took Him to the Holy City and caused Him to stand on the roof of the Temple,
Matthew 4:6and saith to him, `If Son thou art of God cast thyself down, for it hath been written, that, His messengers He shall charge concerning thee, and on hands they shall bear thee up, that thou mayest not dash on a stone thy foot.`and says to him, If thou be Son of God cast thyself down; for it is written, He shall give charge to his angels concerning thee, and on [their] hands shall they bear thee, lest in anywise thou strike thy foot against a stone.and said, "If you are God's Son, throw yourself down; for it is written, "`To His angels He will give orders concerning thee, and on their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any moment thou shouldst strike thy foot against a stone.'"
Matthew 4:7Jesus said to him again, `It hath been written, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.`Jesus said to him, It is again written, Thou shalt not tempt [the] Lord thy God."Again it is written," replied Jesus, "`Thou shalt not put the Lord thy God to the proof.'"
Matthew 4:8Again doth the Devil take him to a very high mount, and doth shew to him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them,Again the devil takes him to a very high mountain, and shews him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory,Then the Devil took Him to the top of an exceedingly lofty mountain, from which he caused Him to see all the Kingdoms of the world and their splendour,
Matthew 4:9and saith to him, `All these to thee I will give, if falling down thou mayest bow to me.`and says to him, All these things will I give thee if, falling down, thou wilt do me homage.and said to Him, "All this I will give you, if you will kneel down and do me homage."
Matthew 4:10Then saith Jesus to him, `Go Adversary, for it hath been written, The Lord thy God thou shalt bow to, and Him only thou shalt serve.`Then says Jesus to him, Get thee away, Satan, for it is written, Thou shalt do homage to [the] Lord thy God, and him alone shalt thou serve."Begone, Satan!" Jesus replied; "for it is written, `To the Lord thy God thou shalt do homage, and to Him alone shalt thou render worship.'"
Matthew 4:11Then doth the Devil leave him, and lo, messengers came and were ministering to him.Then the devil leaves him, and behold, angels came and ministered to him.Thereupon the Devil left Him, and angels at once came and ministered to Him.
Matthew 4:12And Jesus having heard that John was delivered up, did withdraw to Galilee,But having heard that John was delivered up, he departed into Galilee:Now when Jesus heard that John was thrown into prison, He withdrew into Galilee,
Matthew 4:13and having left Nazareth, having come, he dwelt at Capernaum that is by the sea, in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtalim,and having left Nazareth, he went and dwelt at Capernaum, which is on the sea-side in the borders of Zabulon and Nepthalim,and leaving Nazareth He went and settled at Capernaum, a town by the Lake on the frontiers of Zebulun and Naphtali,
Matthew 4:14that it might be fulfilled that was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,that that might be fulfilled which was spoken through Esaias the prophet, saying,in order that these words, spoken through the Prophet Isaiah, might be fulfilled,
Matthew 4:15`Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations!Land of Zabulon and land of Nepthalim, way of [the] sea beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations:"Zebulun's land and Naphtali's land; the road by the Lake; the country beyond the Jordan; Galilee of the Nations!
Matthew 4:16the people that is sitting in darkness saw a great light, and to those sitting in a region and shadow of death light arose to them.`the people sitting in darkness has seen a great light, and to those sitting in [the] country and shadow of death, to them has light sprung up.The people who were dwelling in darkness have seen a brilliant light; and on those who were dwelling in the region of the shadow of death, on them light has dawned."
Matthew 4:17From that time began Jesus to proclaim and to say, `Reform ye, for come nigh hath the reign of the heavens.`From that time began Jesus to preach and to say, Repent, for the kingdom of the heavens has drawn nigh.From that time Jesus began to preach. "Repent," He said, "for the Kingdom of the Heavens is now close at hand."
Matthew 4:18And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon named Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a drag into the sea for they were fishersAnd walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishers;And walking along the shore of the Lake of Galilee He saw two brothers Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew throwing a drag-net into the Lake; for they were fishers.
Matthew 4:19and he saith to them, `Come ye after me, and I will make you fishers of men,`and he says to them, Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.And He said to them, "Come and follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."
Matthew 4:20and they, immediately, having left the nets, did follow him.And they, having left their trawl-nets, immediately followed him.So they immediately left their nets and followed Him. As He went further on,
Matthew 4:21And having advanced thence, he saw other two brothers, James of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, refitting their nets, and he called them,And going on thence he saw other two brothers, James the [son] of Zebedee and John his brother, in the ship with Zebedee their father, mending their trawl-nets, and he called them;He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zabdi and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zabdi mending their nets; and He called them.
Matthew 4:22and they, immediately, having left the boat and their father, did follow him.and they, having left the ship and their father, immediately followed him.And they at once left the boat and their father, and followed Him.
Matthew 4:23And Jesus was going about all Galilee teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the reign, and healing every disease, and every malady among the people,And [Jesus] went round the whole [of] Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the glad tidings of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every bodily weakness among the people.Then Jesus travelled through all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the Good News of the Kingdom, and curing every kind of disease and infirmity among the people.
Matthew 4:24and his fame went forth to all Syria, and they brought to him all having ailments, pressed with manifold sicknesses and pains, and demoniacs, and lunatics, and paralytics, and he healed them.And his fame went out into the whole [of] Syria, and they brought to him all that were ill, suffering under various diseases and pains, and those possessed by demons, and lunatics, and paralytics; and he healed them.Thus His fame spread through all Syria; and they brought all the sick to Him, the people who were suffering from various diseases and pains demoniacs, epileptics, paralytics; and He cured them.
Matthew 4:25And there followed him many multitudes from Galilee, and Decapolis, and Jerusalem, and Judea, and beyond the Jordan.And great crowds followed him from Galilee, and Decapolis, and Jerusalem, and Judaea, and beyond the Jordan.And great crowds followed Him, coming from Galilee, from the Ten Towns, from Jerusalem, and from beyond the district on the other side of the Jordan.
