| Matthew 4:1 | Then Jesus was led up to the wilderness by the Spirit, to be tempted by the Devil, | Then Jesus was carried up into the wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted of the devil: | At that time Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the Desert in order to be tempted by the Devil. |
| Matthew 4:2 | and having fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he did hunger. | and having fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he hungered. | There He fasted for forty days and nights; and after that He suffered from hunger. |
| Matthew 4:3 | And the Tempter having come to him said, `If Son thou art of God speak that these stones may become loaves.` | And the tempter coming up to him said, If thou be Son of God, speak, that these stones may become loaves of bread. | So the Tempter came and said, "If you are the Son of God, command these stones to turn into loaves." |
