Romans 11:1 | I say, then, Did God cast away His people? let it not be! for I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin: | I say then, Has God cast away his people? Far be the thought. For *I* also am an Israelite, of [the] seed of Abraham, of [the] tribe of Benjamin. | I ask then, Did God reject his people? Certainly not! For I also am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. |
Romans 11:2 | God did not cast away His people whom He knew before; have ye not known in Elijah what the Writing saith? how he doth plead with God concerning Israel, saying, | God has not cast away his people whom he foreknew. Know ye not what the scripture says in [the history of] Elias, how he pleads with God against Israel? | God didn't reject his people, which he foreknew. Or don't you know what the scripture says about Elijah? How he pleads with God against Israel: |
Romans 11:3 | `Lord, Thy prophets they did kill, and Thy altars they dug down, and I was left alone, and they seek my life;` | Lord, they have killed thy prophets, they have dug down thine altars; and *I* have been left alone, and they seek my life. | "Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have broken down your altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life." |
Romans 11:4 | but what saith the divine answer to him? `I left to Myself seven thousand men, who did not bow a knee to Baal.` | But what says the divine answer to him? I have left to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed knee to Baal. | But how does God answer him? "I have reserved for myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to Baal." |
Romans 11:5 | So then also in the present time a remnant according to the choice of grace there hath been; | Thus, then, in the present time also there has been a remnant according to election of grace. | Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. |
Romans 11:6 | and if by grace, no more of works, otherwise the grace becometh no more grace; and if of works, it is no more grace, otherwise the work is no more work. | But if by grace, no longer of works: since [otherwise] grace is no more grace. | And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work. |
Romans 11:7 | What then? What Israel doth seek after, this it did not obtain, and the chosen did obtain, and the rest were hardened, | What [is it] then? What Israel seeks for, that he has not obtained; but the election has obtained, and the rest have been blinded, | What then? That which Israel seeks for, that he didn't obtain, but the election obtained it, and the rest were hardened. |
Romans 11:8 | according as it hath been written, `God gave to them a spirit of deep sleep, eyes not to see, and ears not to hear,` unto this very day, | according as it is written, God has given to them a spirit of slumber, eyes not to see, and ears not to hear, unto this day. | According as it is written, "God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, to this very day." |
Romans 11:9 | and David saith, `Let their table become for a snare, and for a trap, and for a stumbling-block, and for a recompense to them; | And David says, Let their table be for a snare, and for a gin, and for a fall-trap, and for a recompense to them: | David says, "Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, A stumbling block, and a retribution to them. |
Romans 11:10 | let their eyes be darkened not to behold, and their back do Thou always bow down.` | let their eyes be darkened not to see, and bow down their back alway. | Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see. Bow down their back always." |
Romans 11:11 | I say, then, Did they stumble that they might fall? let it not be! but by their fall the salvation [is] to the nations, to arouse them to jealousy; | I say then, Have they stumbled in order that they might fall? Far be the thought: but by their fall [there is] salvation to the nations to provoke them to jealousy. | I ask then, did they stumble that they might fall? Certainly not! But by their fall salvation has come to the Gentiles, to provoke them to jealousy. |
Romans 11:12 | and if the fall of them [is] the riches of a world, and the diminution of them the riches of nations, how much more the fulness of them? | But if their fall [be the] world's wealth, and their loss [the] wealth of [the] nations, how much rather their fulness? | Now if their fall is the riches of the world, and their loss the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fullness? |
Romans 11:13 | For to you I speak to the nations inasmuch as I am indeed an apostle of nations, my ministration I do glorify; | For I speak to you, the nations, inasmuch as *I* am apostle of nations, I glorify my ministry; | For I speak to you who are Gentiles. Since then as I am an apostle to Gentiles, I glorify my ministry; |
Romans 11:14 | if by any means I shall arouse to jealousy mine own flesh, and shall save some of them, | if by any means I shall provoke to jealousy [them which are] my flesh, and shall save some from among them. | if by any means I may provoke to jealousy those who are my flesh, and may save some of them. |
Romans 11:15 | for if the casting away of them [is] a reconciliation of the world, what the reception if not life out of the dead? | For if their casting away [be the] world's reconciliation, what [their] reception but life from among [the] dead? | For if the rejection of them [is] the reconciling of the world, what would the receiving of them be, but life from the dead? |
Romans 11:16 | and if the first-fruit [is] holy, the lump also; and if the root [is] holy, the branches also. | Now if the first-fruit [be] holy, the lump also; and if the root [be] holy, the branches also. | If the first fruit is holy, so is the lump. If the root is holy, so are the branches. |
Romans 11:17 | And if certain of the branches were broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wast graffed in among them, and a fellow-partaker of the root and of the fatness of the olive tree didst become | Now if some of the branches have been broken out, and *thou*, being a wild olive tree, hast been grafted in amongst them, and hast become a fellow-partaker of the root and of the fatness of the olive tree, | But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them, and became partaker with them of the root of the richness of the olive tree; |
Romans 11:18 | do not boast against the branches; and if thou dost boast, thou dost not bear the root, but the root thee! | boast not against the branches; but if thou boast, [it is] not *thou* bearest the root, but the root thee. | don't boast over the branches. But if you boast, it is not you who bear the root, but the root you. |
Romans 11:19 | Thou wilt say, then, `The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in;` right! | Thou wilt say then, The branches have been broken out in order that *I* might be grafted in. | You will say then, "Branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in." |
Romans 11:20 | by unbelief they were broken off, and thou hast stood by faith; be not high-minded, but be fearing; | Right: they have been broken out through unbelief, and *thou* standest through faith. Be not high-minded, but fear: | True; by their unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by your faith. Don't be conceited, but fear; |
Romans 11:21 | for if God the natural branches did not spare lest perhaps He also shall not spare thee. | if God indeed has not spared the natural branches; lest it might be he spare not thee either. | for if God didn't spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you. |
Romans 11:22 | Lo, then, goodness and severity of God upon those indeed who fell, severity; and upon thee, goodness, if thou mayest remain in the goodness, otherwise, thou also shalt be cut off. | Behold then [the] goodness and severity of God: upon them who have fallen, severity; upon thee goodness of God, if thou shalt abide in goodness, since [otherwise] *thou* also wilt be cut away. | See then the goodness and severity of God. Toward those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in his goodness; otherwise you also will be cut off. |
Romans 11:23 | And those also, if they may not remain in unbelief, shall be graffed in, for God is able again to graff them in; | And *they* too, if they abide not in unbelief, shall be grafted in; for God is able again to graft them in. | They also, if they don't continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. |
Romans 11:24 | for if thou, out of the olive tree, wild by nature, wast cut out, and, contrary to nature, wast graffed into a good olive tree, how much rather shall they, who [are] according to nature, be graffed into their own olive tree? | For if *thou* hast been cut out of the olive tree wild by nature, and, contrary to nature, hast been grafted into the good olive tree, how much rather shall they, who are according to nature be grafted into their own olive tree? | For if you were cut out of that which is by nature a wild olive tree, and were grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree, how much more will these, which are the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree? |
Romans 11:25 | For I do not wish you to be ignorant, brethren, of this secret that ye may not be wise in your own conceits that hardness in part to Israel hath happened till the fulness of the nations may come in; | For I do not wish you to be ignorant, brethren, of this mystery, that ye may not be wise in your own conceits, that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the nations be come in; | For I don't desire, brothers, to have you ignorant of this mystery, so that you won't be wise in your own conceits, that a hardening in part has happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles have come in, |
Romans 11:26 | and so all Israel shall be saved, according as it hath been written, `There shall come forth out of Sion he who is delivering, and he shall turn away impiety from Jacob, | and so all Israel shall be saved. According as it is written, The deliverer shall come out of Zion; he shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob. | and so all Israel will be saved. Even as it is written, "There will come out of Zion the Deliverer, And he will turn away ungodliness from Jacob. |
Romans 11:27 | and this to them [is] the covenant from Me, when I may take away their sins.` | And this is the covenant from me to them, when I shall have taken away their sins. | This is my covenant to them, When I will take away their sins." |
Romans 11:28 | As regards, indeed, the good tidings, [they are] enemies on your account; and as regards the choice beloved on account of the fathers; | As regards the glad tidings, [they are] enemies on your account; but as regards election, beloved on account of the fathers. | Concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sake. But concerning the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sake. |
Romans 11:29 | for unrepented of [are] the gifts and the calling of God; | For the gifts and the calling of God [are] not subject to repentance. | For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. |
Romans 11:30 | for as ye also once did not believe in God, and now did find kindness by the unbelief of these: | For as indeed *ye* [also] once have not believed in God, but now have been objects of mercy through the unbelief of *these*; | For as you in time past were disobedient to God, but now have obtained mercy by their disobedience, |
Romans 11:31 | so also these now did not believe, that in your kindness they also may find kindness; | so these also have now not believed in your mercy, in order that *they* also may be objects of mercy. | even so these also have now been disobedient, that by the mercy shown to you they may also obtain mercy. |
Romans 11:32 | for God did shut up together the whole to unbelief, that to the whole He might do kindness. | For God hath shut up together all in unbelief, in order that he might shew mercy to all. | For God has shut up all to disobedience, that he might have mercy on all. |
Romans 11:33 | O depth of riches, and wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable His judgments, and untraceable His ways! | O depth of riches both of [the] wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable his judgments, and untraceable his ways! | Oh the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past tracing out! |
Romans 11:34 | for who did know the mind of the Lord? or who did become His counsellor? | For who has known [the] mind of [the] Lord, or who has been his counsellor? | "For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?" |
Romans 11:35 | or who did first give to Him, and it shall be given back to him again? | or who has first given to him, and it shall be rendered to him? | "Or who has first given to him, And it will be repaid to him again?" |
Romans 11:36 | because of Him, and through Him, and to Him [are] the all things; to Him [is] the glory to the ages. Amen. | For of him, and through him, and for him [are] all things: to him be glory for ever. Amen. | For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things. To him be the glory for ever! Amen. |
