1st-Peter 4:1Christ, then, having suffered for us in the flesh, ye also with the same mind arm yourselves, because he who did suffer in the flesh hath done with sin,Christ therefore having suffered in the flesh, be you also armed with the same thought: for he that hath suffered in the flesh, hath ceased from sins:So that as Jesus was put to death in the flesh, do you yourselves be of the same mind; for the death of the flesh puts an end to sin;
1st-Peter 4:2no more in the desires of men, but in the will of God, to live the rest of the time in the flesh;That now he may live the rest of his time in the flesh , not after the desires of men, but according to the will of God.So that you may give the rest of your lives in the flesh, not to the desires of men, but to the purpose of God.
1st-Peter 4:3for sufficient to us [is] the past time of life the will of the nations to have wrought, having walked in lasciviousnesses, desires, excesses of wines, revelings, drinking-bouts, and unlawful idolatries,For the time past is sufficient to have fulfilled the will of the Gentiles, for them who have walked in riotousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and unlawful worshipping of idols.Because for long enough, in times past, we have been living after the way of the Gentiles, given up to the desires of the flesh, to drinking and feasting and loose behaviour and unclean worship of images;
1st-Peter 4:4in which they think it strange your not running with them to the same excess of dissoluteness, speaking evil,Wherein they think it strange, that you run not with them into the same confusion of riotousness, speaking evil of you.And they are wondering that you no longer go with them in this violent wasting of life, and are saying evil things of you:
1st-Peter 4:5who shall give an account to Him who is ready to judge living and dead,Who shall render account to him, who is ready to judge the living and the dead.But they will have to give an account of themselves to him who is ready to be the judge of the living and the dead.
1st-Peter 4:6for for this also to dead men was good news proclaimed, that they may be judged, indeed, according to men in the flesh, and may live according to God in the spirit.For, for this cause was the gospel preached also to the dead: that they might be judged indeed according to men, in the flesh; but may live according to God, in the Spirit.For this was the reason why the good news of Jesus was given even to the dead, so that they might be judged as men in the flesh, but might be living before God in the spirit.
1st-Peter 4:7And of all things the end hath come nigh; be sober-minded, then, and watch unto the prayers,But the end of all is at hand. Be prudent therefore, and watch in prayers.But the end of all things is near: so be serious in your behaviour and keep on the watch with prayer;
1st-Peter 4:8and, before all things, to one another having the earnest love, because the love shall cover a multitude of sins;But before all things have a constant mutual charity among yourselves: for charity covereth a multitude of sins.And most of all be warm in your love for one another; because in love there is forgiveness for sins without number:
1st-Peter 4:9hospitable to one another, without murmuring;Using hospitality one towards another, without murmuring,Keep open house for all with a glad heart;
1st-Peter 4:10each, according as he received a gift, to one another ministering it, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God;As every man hath received grace, ministering the same one to another: as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.Making distribution among one another of whatever has been given to you, like true servants of the unmeasured grace of God;
1st-Peter 4:11if any one doth speak `as oracles of God;` if any one doth minister `as of the ability which God doth supply;` that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom is the glory and the power to the ages of the ages. Amen.If any man speak, let him speak, as the words of God. If any man minister, let him do it, as of the power, which God administereth: that in all things God may be honoured through Jesus Christ: to whom is glory and empire for ever and ever. Amen.If anyone has anything to say, let it be as the words of God; if anyone has the desire to be the servant of others, let him do it in the strength which is given by God; so that in all things God may have the glory through Jesus Christ, whose are the glory and the power for ever.
1st-Peter 4:12Beloved, think it not strange at the fiery suffering among you that is coming to try you, as if a strange thing were happening to you,Dearly beloved, think not strange the burning heat which is to try you, as if some new thing happened to you;Dear brothers, do not be surprised, as if it was something strange, if your faith is tested as by fire:
1st-Peter 4:13but, according as ye have fellowship with the sufferings of the Christ, rejoice ye, that also in the revelation of his glory ye may rejoice exulting;But if you partake of the sufferings of Christ, rejoice that when his glory shall be revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.But be glad that you are given a part in the pains of Christ; so that at the revelation of his glory you may have great joy.
1st-Peter 4:14if ye be reproached in the name of Christ happy [are ye], because the Spirit of glory and of God upon you doth rest; in regard, indeed, to them, he is evil-spoken of, and in regard to you, he is glorified;If you be reproached for the name of Christ, you shall be blessed: for that which is of the honour, glory, and power of God, and that which is his Spirit, resteth upon you.If men say evil things of you because of the name of Christ, happy are you; for the Spirit of glory and of God is resting on you.
1st-Peter 4:15for let none of you suffer as a murderer, or thief, or evil-doer, or as an inspector into other men`s matters;But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a railer, or a coveter of other men's things.Let no one among you undergo punishment as a taker of life, or as a thief, or as an evil-doer, or as one who is over-interested in other men's business;
1st-Peter 4:16and if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; and let him glorify God in this respect;But if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name.But if he undergoes punishment as a Christian, that is no shame to him; let him give glory to God in this name.
1st-Peter 4:17because it is the time of the beginning of the judgment from the house of God, and if first from us, what the end of those disobedient to the good news of God?For the time is, that judgment should begin at the house of God. And if first at us, what shall be the end of them that believe not the gospel of God?For the time has come for the judging, starting with the church of God; but if it makes a start with us, what will be the end of those who are not under the rule of God?
1st-Peter 4:18And if the righteous man is scarcely saved, the ungodly and sinner where shall he appear?And if the just man shall scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?And if it is hard for even the good man to get salvation, what chance has the man without religion or the sinner?
1st-Peter 4:19so that also those suffering according to the will of god, as to a stedfast Creator, let them commit their own souls in good doing.Wherefore let them also that suffer according to the will of God, commend their souls in good deeds to the faithful Creator.For this reason let those who by the purpose of God undergo punishment, keep on in well-doing and put their souls into the safe hands of their Maker.
