| Jonah 2:1 | And Jonah prayeth unto Jehovah his God from the bowels of the fish. | Now the Lord prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonas: and Jonas was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. | Then Jonah made prayer to the Lord his God from the inside of the fish, and said, |
| Jonah 2:2 | And he saith: I called, because of my distress, to Jehovah, And He doth answer me, From the belly of sheol I have cried, Thou hast heard my voice. | And Jonas prayed to the Lord his God out of the belly of the fish. | In my trouble I was crying to the Lord, and he gave me an answer; out of the deepest underworld I sent up a cry, and you gave ear to my voice. |
| Jonah 2:3 | When Thou dost cast me [into] the deep, Into the heart of the seas, Then the flood doth compass me, All Thy breakers and Thy billows have passed over me. | And he said: I cried out of my affliction to the Lord, and he heard me: I cried out of the belly of hell, and thou hast heard my voice. | For you have put me down into the deep, into the heart of the sea; and the river was round about me; all your waves and your rolling waters went over me. |
| Jonah 2:4 | And I I said: I have been cast out from before Thine eyes, (Yet I add to look unto Thy holy temple!) | And thou hast cast me forth into the deep in the heart of the sea, and a flood hath compassed me: all thy billows, and thy waves have passed over me. | And I said, I have been sent away from before your eyes; how may I ever again see your holy Temple? |
| Jonah 2:5 | Compassed me have waters unto the soul, The deep doth compass me, The weed is bound to my head. | And I said: I am cast away out of the sight of thy eyes: but yet I shall see thy holy temple again. | The waters were circling round me, even to the neck; the deep was about me; the sea-grass was twisted round my head. |
| Jonah 2:6 | To the cuttings of mountains I have come down, The earth, her bars [are] behind me to the age. And Thou bringest up from the pit my life, O Jehovah my God. | The waters compassed me about even to the soul: the deep hath closed me round about, the sea hath covered my head. | I went down to the bases of the mountains; as for the earth, her walls were about me for ever: but you have taken up my life from the underworld, O Lord my God. |
| Jonah 2:7 | In the feebleness within me of my soul Jehovah I have remembered, And come in unto Thee doth my prayer, Unto Thy holy temple. | I went down to the lowest parts of the mountains: the bars of the earth have shut me up for ever: and thou wilt bring up my life from corruption, O Lord my God. | When my soul in me was overcome, I kept the memory of the Lord: and my prayer came in to you, into your holy Temple. |
| Jonah 2:8 | Those observing lying vanities their own mercy forsake. | When my soul was in distress within me, I remembered the Lord: that my prayer may come to thee, unto thy holy temple. | The worshippers of false gods have given up their only hope. |
| Jonah 2:9 | And I with a voice of thanksgiving I sacrifice to Thee, That which I have vowed I complete, Salvation [is] of Jehovah. | They that are vain observe vanities, forsake their own mercy. | But I will make an offering to you with the voice of praise; I will give effect to my oaths. Salvation is the Lord's. |
| Jonah 2:10 | And Jehovah saith to the fish, and it vomiteth out Jonah on the dry land. | But I with the voice of praise will sacrifice to thee: I will pay whatsoever I have vowed for my salvation to the Lord. | And at the Lord's order, the fish sent Jonah out of its mouth on to the dry land. |
