Ephesians 5:1 | Become, then, followers of God, as children beloved, | Be ye therefore followers of God, as most dear children; | Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children, |
Ephesians 5:2 | and walk in love, as also the Christ did love us, and did give himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for an odour of a sweet smell, | And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath delivered himself for us, an oblation and a sacrifice to God for an odour of sweetness. | and walk in love, even as the Christ loved us, and delivered himself up for us, an offering and sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savour. |
Ephesians 5:3 | and whoredom, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as becometh saints; | But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not so much as be named among you, as becometh saints: | But fornication and all uncleanness or unbridled lust, let it not be even named among you, as it becomes saints; |
Ephesians 5:4 | also filthiness, and foolish talking, or jesting, the things not fit but rather thanksgiving; | Or obscenity, or foolish talking, or scurrility, which is to no purpose; but rather giving of thanks. | and filthiness and foolish talking, or jesting, which are not convenient; but rather thanksgiving. |
Ephesians 5:5 | for this ye know, that every whoremonger, or unclean, or covetous person, who is an idolater, hath no inheritance in the reign of the Christ and God. | For know you this and understand, that no fornicator, or unclean, or covetous person (which is a serving of idols), hath inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. | For this ye are [well] informed of, knowing that no fornicator, or unclean person, or person of unbridled lust, who is an idolater, has inheritance in the kingdom of the Christ and God. |
Ephesians 5:6 | Let no one deceive you with vain words, for because of these things cometh the anger of God upon the sons of the disobedience, | Let no man deceive you with vain words. For because of these things cometh the anger of God upon the children of unbelief. | Let no one deceive you with vain words, for on account of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. |
Ephesians 5:7 | become not, then, partakers with them, | Be ye not therefore partakers with them. | Be not ye therefore fellow-partakers with them; |
Ephesians 5:8 | for ye were once darkness, and now light in the Lord; as children of light walk ye, | For you were heretofore darkness, but now light in the Lord. Walk then as children of the light. | for ye were once darkness, but now light in [the] Lord; walk as children of light, |
Ephesians 5:9 | for the fruit of the Spirit [is] in all goodness, and righteousness, and truth, | For the fruit of the light is in all goodness, and justice, and truth; | (for the fruit of the light [is] in all goodness and righteousness and truth,) |
Ephesians 5:10 | proving what is well-pleasing to the Lord, | Proving what is well pleasing to God: | proving what is agreeable to the Lord; |
Ephesians 5:11 | and have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of the darkness and rather even convict, | And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. | and do not have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather also reprove [them], |
Ephesians 5:12 | for the things in secret done by them it is a shame even to speak of, | For the things that are done by them in secret, it is a shame even to speak of. | for the things that are done by them in secret it is shameful even to say. |
Ephesians 5:13 | and all the things reproved by the light are manifested, for everything that is manifested is light; | But all things that are reproved, are made manifest by the light; for all that is made manifest is light. | But all things having their true character exposed by the light are made manifest; for that which makes everything manifest is light. |
Ephesians 5:14 | wherefore he saith, `Arouse thyself, thou who art sleeping, and arise out of the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon thee.` | Wherefore he saith: Rise thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead: and Christ shall enlighten thee. | Wherefore he says, Wake up, [thou] that sleepest, and arise up from among the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon thee. |
Ephesians 5:15 | See, then, how exactly ye walk, not as unwise, but as wise, | See therefore, brethren, how you walk circumspectly: not as unwise, | See therefore how ye walk carefully, not as unwise but as wise, |
Ephesians 5:16 | redeeming the time, because the days are evil; | But as wise: redeeming the time, because the days are evil. | redeeming the time, because the days are evil. |
Ephesians 5:17 | because of this become not fools, but understanding what [is] the will of the Lord, | Wherefore become not unwise, but understanding what is the will of God. | For this reason be not foolish, but understanding what [is] the will of the Lord. |
Ephesians 5:18 | and be not drunk with wine, in which is dissoluteness, but be filled in the Spirit, | And be not drunk with wine, wherein is luxury; but be ye filled with the holy Spirit, | And be not drunk with wine, in which is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit, |
Ephesians 5:19 | speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, | Speaking to yourselves in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual canticles, singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord; | speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and chanting with your heart to the Lord; |
Ephesians 5:20 | giving thanks always for all things, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to the God and Father; | Giving thanks always for all things, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to God and the Father: | giving thanks at all times for all things to him [who is] God and [the] Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, |
Ephesians 5:21 | subjecting yourselves to one another in the fear of God. | Being subject one to another, in the fear of Christ. | submitting yourselves to one another in [the] fear of Christ. |
Ephesians 5:22 | The wives! to your own husbands subject yourselves, as to the Lord, | Let women be subject to their husbands, as to the Lord: | Wives, [submit yourselves] to your own husbands, as to the Lord, |
Ephesians 5:23 | because the husband is head of the wife, as also the Christ [is] head of the assembly, and he is saviour of the body, | Because the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ is the head of the church. He is the saviour of his body. | for a husband is head of the wife, as also the Christ [is] head of the assembly. *He* [is] Saviour of the body. |
Ephesians 5:24 | but even as the assembly is subject to Christ, so also [are] the wives to their own husbands in everything. | Therefore as the church is subject to Christ, so also let the wives be to their husbands in all things. | But even as the assembly is subjected to the Christ, so also wives to their own husbands in everything. |
Ephesians 5:25 | The husbands! love your own wives, as also the Christ did love the assembly, and did give himself for it, | Husbands, love your wives, as Christ also loved the church, and delivered himself up for it: | Husbands, love your own wives, even as the Christ also loved the assembly, and has delivered himself up for it, |
Ephesians 5:26 | that he might sanctify it, having cleansed [it] with the bathing of the water in the saying, | That he might sanctify it, cleansing it by the laver of water in the word of life: | in order that he might sanctify it, purifying [it] by the washing of water by [the] word, |
Ephesians 5:27 | that he might present it to himself the assembly in glory, not having spot or wrinkle, or any of such things, but that it may be holy and unblemished; | That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any; such thing; but that it should be holy, and without blemish. | that *he* might present the assembly to himself glorious, having no spot, or wrinkle, or any of such things; but that it might be holy and blameless. |
Ephesians 5:28 | so ought the husbands to love their own wives as their own bodies: he who is loving his own wife himself he doth love; | So also ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife, loveth himself. | So ought men also to love their own wives as their own bodies: he that loves his own wife loves himself. |
Ephesians 5:29 | for no one ever his own flesh did hate, but doth nourish and cherish it, as also the Lord the assembly, | For no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, as also Christ doth the church: | For no one has ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, even as also the Christ the assembly: |
Ephesians 5:30 | because members we are of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones; | Because we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. | for we are members of his body; [we are of his flesh, and of his bones.] |
Ephesians 5:31 | `for this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife, and they shall be the two for one flesh;` | For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they shall be two in one flesh. | Because of this a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall be united to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh. |
Ephesians 5:32 | this secret is great, and I speak in regard to Christ and to the assembly; | This is a great sacrament; but I speak in Christ and in the church. | This mystery is great, but *I* speak as to Christ, and as to the assembly. |
Ephesians 5:33 | but ye also, every one in particular let each his own wife so love as himself, and the wife that she may reverence the husband. | Nevertheless let every one of you in particular love his wife as himself: and let the wife fear her husband. | But *ye* also, every one of you, let each so love his own wife as himself; but as to the wife [I speak] that she may fear the husband. |
