| Matthew 23:1 | Then Jesus spake to the multitudes, and to his disciples, | Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to his disciples, | Then Jesus addressed the crowds and His disciples. |
| Matthew 23:2 | saying, `On the seat of Moses sat down the scribes and the Pharisees; | Saying: The scribes and the Pharisees have sitten on the chair of Moses. | "The Scribes," He said, "and the Pharisees sit in the chair of Moses. |
| Matthew 23:3 | all, then, as much as they may say to you to observe, observe and do, but according to their works do not, for they say, and do not; | All things therefore whatsoever they shall say to you, observe and do: but according to their works do ye not; for they say, and do not. | Therefore do and observe everything that they command you; but do not imitate their lives, for though they tell others what to do, they do not do it themselves. |
| Matthew 23:4 | for they bind together burdens heavy and grievous to be borne, and lay upon the shoulders of men, but with their finger they will not move them. | For they bind heavy and insupportable burdens, and lay them on men's shoulders; but with a finger of their own they will not move them. | Heavy and cumbrous burdens they bind together and load men's shoulders with them, while as for themselves, not with one finger do they choose to lift them. |

| Matthew 23:13 | `Wo to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye shut up the reign of the heavens before men, for ye do not go in, nor those going in do ye suffer to enter. | But woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; because you shut the kingdom of heaven against men, for you yourselves do not enter in; and those that are going in, you suffer not to enter. | "But alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for you lock the door of the Kingdom of the Heavens against men; you yourselves do not enter, nor do you allow those to enter who are seeking to do so. |

| Matthew 23:23 | `Wo to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye give tithe of the mint, and the dill, and the cumin, and did neglect the weightier things of the Law the judgment, and the kindness, and the faith; these it behoved [you] to do, and those not to neglect. | Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; because you tithe mint, and anise, and cummin, and have left the weightier things of the law; judgment, and mercy, and faith. These things you ought to have done, and not to leave those undone. | "Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for you pay the tithe on mint, dill, and cumin, while you have neglected the weightier requirements of the Law just judgement, mercy, and faithful dealing. These things you ought to have done, and yet you ought not to have left the others undone. |

| Matthew 23:35 | that on you may come all the righteous blood being poured out on the earth from the blood of Abel the righteous, unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the sanctuary and the altar: | That upon you may come all the just blood that hath been shed upon the earth, from the blood of Abel the just, even unto the blood of Zacharias the son of Barachias, whom you killed between the temple and the altar. | that all the innocent blood shed upon earth may come on you, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah the son of Berechiah whom you murdered between the Sanctuary and the altar. |
