| James 2:1 | My brethren, hold not, in respect of persons, the faith of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ, | My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. | My brethren, you must not make distinctions between one man and another while you are striving to maintain faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, who is our glory. |
| James 2:2 | for if there may come into your synagogue a man with gold ring, in gay raiment, and there may come in also a poor man in vile raiment, | For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; | For suppose a man comes into one of your meetings wearing gold rings and fine clothes, and there also comes in a poor man wearing shabby clothes, |
| James 2:3 | and ye may look upon him bearing the gay raiment, and may say to him, `Thou sit thou here well,` and to the poor man may say, `Thou stand thou there, or, Sit thou here under my footstool,` | And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: | and you pay court to the one who wears the fine clothes, and say, "Sit here; this is a good place;" while to the poor man you say, "Stand there, or sit on the floor at my feet;" |

Has not God chosen those whom the world regards as poor to be rich in faith and heirs of the Kingdom which He has promised to those that love Him? |
| James 2:6 | and ye did dishonour the poor one; do not the rich oppress you and themselves draw you to judgment-seats; | But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? | But *you* have put dishonour upon the poor man. Yet is it not the rich who grind you down? Are not they the very people who drag you into the Law courts? |
| James 2:7 | do they not themselves speak evil of the good name that was called upon you? | Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called? | and the very people who speak evil of the noble Name by which you are called? |
| James 2:8 | If, indeed, royal law ye complete, according to the Writing, `Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself,` ye do well; | If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: | If, however, you are keeping the Law as supreme, in obedience to the Commandment which says "You are to love your fellow man just as you love yourself," you are acting rightly. |

Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. | For He who said, "Do not commit adultery," also said, "Do not commit murder," and if you are a murderer, although not an adulterer, you have become an offender against the Law. |

| James 2:16 | and any one of you may say to them, `Depart ye in peace, be warmed, and be filled,` and may not give to them the things needful for the body, what [is] the profit? | And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? | and one of you says to them, "I wish you well; keep yourselves warm and well fed," and yet you do not give them what they need; what is the use of that? |

| James 2:18 | But say may some one, Thou hast faith, and I have works, shew me thy faith out of thy works, and I will shew thee out of my works my faith: | Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. | Nay, some one will say, "You have faith, I have actions: prove to me your faith apart from corresponding actions and I will prove mine to you by my actions. |

| James 2:20 | And dost thou wish to know, O vain man, that the faith apart from the works is dead? | But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? | But, idle boaster, are you willing to be taught how it is that faith apart from obedience is worthless? Take the case of Abraham our forefather. |
| James 2:21 | Abraham our father was not he declared righteous out of works, having brought up Isaac his son upon the altar? | Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? | Was it, or was it not, because of his actions that he was declared to be righteous as the result of his having offered up his son Isaac upon the altar? |
