Titus 1:1Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of the choice ones of God, and an acknowledging of truth that [is] according to piety,Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is according to godliness;Paul, a servant of God, and an Apostle of Jesus Christ, in agreement with the faith of the saints of God and the full knowledge of what is true in harmony with religion,
Titus 1:2upon hope of life age-during, which God, who doth not lie, did promise before times of ages,In hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the world began;In the hope of eternal life, which was made certain before eternal time, by the word of God who is ever true;
Titus 1:3(and He manifested in proper times His word,) in preaching, which I was entrusted with, according to a charge of God our Saviour,But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed to me according to the commandment of God our Savior;Who, in his time, made clear his word in the good news, of which, by the order of God our Saviour, I became a preacher;
Titus 1:4to Titus true child according to a common faith: Grace, kindness, peace, from God the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour!To Titus, my own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.To Titus, my true child in our common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Saviour.
Titus 1:5For this cause left I thee in Crete, that the things lacking thou mayest arrange, and mayest set down in every city elders, as I did appoint to thee;For this cause I left thee in Crete, that thou shouldst set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:I did not take you with me when I went away from Crete, so that you might do what was necessary to put things in order there, placing men in authority over the churches in every town, as I said to you;
Titus 1:6if any one is blameless, of one wife a husband, having children stedfast, not under accusation of riotous living or insubordinateIf any is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children, not accused of riot, or disorderly.Men having a good record, husbands of one wife, whose children are of the faith, children of whom it may not be said that they are given to loose living or are uncontrolled.
Titus 1:7for it behoveth the overseer to be blameless, as God`s steward, not self-pleased, nor irascible, not given to wine, not a striker, not given to filthy lucre;For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;For it is necessary for a Bishop to be a man of virtue, as God's servant; not pushing himself forward, not quickly moved to wrath or blows, not desiring profit for himself;
Titus 1:8but a lover of strangers, a lover of good men, sober-minded, righteous, kind, self-controlled,But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;But opening his house freely to guests; a lover of what is good, serious-minded, upright, holy, self-controlled;
Titus 1:9holding according to the teaching to the stedfast word, that he may be able also to exhort in the sound teaching, and the gainsayers to convict;Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.Keeping to the true word of the teaching, so that he may be able to give comfort by right teaching and overcome the arguments of the doubters.
Titus 1:10for there are many both insubordinate, vain-talkers, and mind-deceivers especially they of the circumcisionFor there are many disorderly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:For there are men who are not ruled by law; foolish talkers, false teachers, specially those of the circumcision,
Titus 1:11whose mouth it behoveth to stop, who whole households do overturn, teaching what things it behoveth not, for filthy lucre`s sake.Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of sordid gain.By whom some families have been completely overturned; who take money for teaching things which are not right; these will have to be stopped.
Titus 1:12A certain one of them, a prophet of their own, said `Cretans! always liars, evil beasts, lazy bellies!`One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are always liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.One of their prophets has said, The men of Crete are ever false, evil beasts, lovers of food, hating work.
Titus 1:13this testimony is true; for which cause convict them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,This testimony is true: wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;This witness is true. So say sharp words to them so that they may come to the right faith,
Titus 1:14not giving heed to Jewish fables and commands of men, turning themselves away from the truth;Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men that turn from the truth.Giving no attention to the fictions of the Jews and the rules of men who have no true knowledge.
Titus 1:15all things, indeed, [are] pure to the pure, and to the defiled and unstedfast [is] nothing pure, but of them defiled [are] even the mind and the conscience;To the pure all things are pure: but to them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.To the clean in heart all things are clean: but to those who are unclean and without faith nothing is clean; they become unclean in mind and in thought.
Titus 1:16God they profess to know, and in the works they deny [Him], being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work disapproved.They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and to every good work reprobate.They say that they have knowledge of God, while by their acts they are turning their backs on him; they are hated by all, hard-hearted, and judged to be without value for any good work.
