Hebrews 4:1 | We may fear, then, lest a promise being left of entering into His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short, | Let us therefore fear, lest a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. | Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left of entering into his rest, any one of you might seem to have failed [of it]. |
Hebrews 4:2 | for we also are having good news proclaimed, even as they, but the word heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard, | For to us was the gospel preached, as well as to them: but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. | For indeed we have had glad tidings presented to us, even as they also; but the word of the report did not profit *them*, not being mixed with faith in those who heard. |
Hebrews 4:3 | for we do enter into the rest we who did believe, as He said, `So I sware in My anger, If they shall enter into My rest ;` and yet the works were done from the foundation of the world, | For we who have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. | For we enter into the rest who have believed; as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, If they shall enter into my rest; although the works had been completed from [the] foundation of [the] world. |
Hebrews 4:4 | for He spake in a certain place concerning the seventh [day] thus: `And God did rest in the seventh day from all His works;` | For he spoke in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God rested the seventh day from all his works. | For he has said somewhere of the seventh [day] thus, And God rested on the seventh day from all his works: |
Hebrews 4:5 | and in this [place] again, `If they shall enter into My rest ;` | And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. | and in this again, If they shall enter into my rest. |
Hebrews 4:6 | since then, it remaineth for certain to enter into it, and those who did first hear good news entered not in because of unbelief | Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter into it, and they to whom it was first preached entered not because of unbelief: | Seeing therefore it remains that some enter into it, and those who first received the glad tidings did not enter in on account of not hearkening to the word, |
Hebrews 4:7 | again He doth limit a certain day, `To-day,` (in David saying, after so long a time,) as it hath been said, `To-day, if His voice ye may hear, ye may not harden your hearts,` | (Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To-day, after so long a time; as it is said, To-day, if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. | again he determines a certain day, saying, in David, 'To-day,' after so long a time; (according as it has been said before), To-day, if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. |
Hebrews 4:8 | for if Joshua had given them rest, He would not concerning another day have spoken after these things; | For if Jesus had given them rest, then he would not afterward have spoken of another day. | For if Jesus had brought them into rest, he would not have spoken afterwards about another day. |
Hebrews 4:9 | there doth remain, then, a sabbatic rest to the people of God, | There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. | There remains then a sabbatism to the people of God. |
Hebrews 4:10 | for he who did enter into his rest, he also rested from his works, as God from His own. | For he that hath entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.) | For he that has entered into his rest, he also has rested from his works, as God did from his own. |
Hebrews 4:11 | May we be diligent, then, to enter into that rest, that no one in the same example of the unbelief may fall, | Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. | Let us therefore use diligence to enter into that rest, that no one may fall after the same example of not hearkening to the word. |
Hebrews 4:12 | for the reckoning of God is living, and working, and sharp above every two-edged sword, and piercing unto the dividing asunder both of soul and spirit, of joints also and marrow, and a discerner of thoughts and intents of the heart; | For the word of God is living, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. | For the word of God [is] living and operative, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and penetrating to [the] division of soul and spirit, both of joints and marrow, and a discerner of the thoughts and intents of [the] heart. |
Hebrews 4:13 | and there is not a created thing not manifest before Him, but all things [are] naked and open to His eyes with whom is our reckoning. | Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened to the eyes of him with whom we have to do. | And there is not a creature unapparent before him; but all things [are] naked and laid bare to his eyes, with whom we have to do. |
Hebrews 4:14 | Having, then, a great chief priest passed through the heavens Jesus the Son of God may we hold fast the profession, | Seeing then that we have a great High Priest, that hath passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. | Having therefore a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast the confession. |
Hebrews 4:15 | for we have not a chief priest unable to sympathise with our infirmities, but [one] tempted in all things in like manner apart from sin; | For we have not a high priest who cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but who was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. | For we have not a high priest not able to sympathise with our infirmities, but tempted in all things in like manner, sin apart. |
Hebrews 4:16 | we may come near, then, with freedom, to the throne of the grace, that we may receive kindness, and find grace for seasonable help. | Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. | Let us approach therefore with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and find grace for seasonable help. |
