Matthew 16:1And the Pharisees and Sadducees having come, tempting, did question him, to shew to them a sign from the heaven,The Pharisees also and the Sadducees came, and, tempting, desired him that he would show them a sign from heaven.The Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing him, asked him to show them a sign from heaven.
Matthew 16:2and he answering said to them, `Evening having come, ye say, Fair weather, for the heaven is red,He answered and said to them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.But he answered them, "When it is evening, you say, 'It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.'
Matthew 16:3and at morning, Foul weather to-day, for the heaven is red gloomy; hypocrites, the face of the heavens indeed ye do know to discern, but the signs of the times ye are not able!And in the morning, It will be foul weather to-day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?In the morning, 'It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.' Hypocrites! You know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but you can't discern the signs of the times.
Matthew 16:4`A generation evil and adulterous doth seek a sign, and a sign shall not be given to it, except the sign of Jonah the prophet;` and having left them he went away.A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh for a sign; and there shall no sign been to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah. And he left them, and departed.An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and there will be no sign given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah." He left them, and departed.
Matthew 16:5And his disciples having come to the other side, forgot to take loaves,And when his disciples had come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.The disciples came to the other side and forgot to take bread.
Matthew 16:6and Jesus said to them, `Beware, and take heed of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees;`Then Jesus said to them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.Jesus said to them, "Take heed and beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees."
Matthew 16:7and they were reasoning in themselves, saying, `Because we took no loaves.`And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread.They reasoned among themselves, saying, "We took no bread."
Matthew 16:8And Jesus having known, said to them, `Why reason ye in yourselves, ye of little faith, because ye took no loaves?Which when Jesus perceived, he said to them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?Jesus, perceiving it, said, "Why do you reason among yourselves, you of little faith, 'because you have brought no bread?'
Matthew 16:9do ye not yet understand, nor remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many hand-baskets ye took up?Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?Don't you yet perceive, neither remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many baskets you took up?
Matthew 16:10nor the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?Nor the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many baskets you took up?
Matthew 16:11how do ye not understand that I did not speak to you of bread to take heed of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees?`How is it that ye do not understand that I spoke not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?How is it that you don't perceive that I didn't speak to you concerning bread? But beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees."
Matthew 16:12Then they understood that he did not say to take heed of the leaven of the bread, but of the teaching, of the Pharisees and Sadducees.Then they understood that he did not caution them against the leaven of bread, but against the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.Then they understood that he didn't tell them to beware of the yeast of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Matthew 16:13And Jesus, having come to the parts of Cesarea Philippi, was asking his disciples, saying, `Who do men say me to be the Son of Man?`When Jesus came into the borders of Cesarea Phillippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Who do men say that I the Son of man am?Now when Jesus came into the parts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, "Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am ?"
Matthew 16:14and they said, `Some, John the Baptist, and others, Elijah, and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.`And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.They said, "Some say John the Baptizer, some, Elijah, and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets."
Matthew 16:15He saith to them, `And ye who do ye say me to be?`He saith to them, But who say ye that I am?He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"
Matthew 16:16and Simon Peter answering said, `Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.`And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
Matthew 16:17And Jesus answering said to him, `Happy art thou, Simon Bar-Jona, because flesh and blood did not reveal [it] to thee, but my Father who is in the heavens.And Jesus answered and said to him, Blessed art thou, Simon-Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it to thee, but my Father who is in heaven.Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 16:18`And I also say to thee, that thou art a rock, and upon this rock I will build my assembly, and gates of Hades shall not prevail against it;And I say also to thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church: and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.I also tell you, that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my assembly, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.
Matthew 16:19and I will give to thee the keys of the reign of the heavens, and whatever thou mayest bind upon the earth shall be having been bound in the heavens, and whatever thou mayest loose upon the earth shall be having been loosed in the heavens.`And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatever thou shalt bind on earth, shall be bound in heaven; and whatever thou shalt loose on earth, shall be loosed in heaven.I will give to you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, and whatever you will bind on earth will be bound in heaven; and whatever you will loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."
Matthew 16:20Then did he charge his disciples that they may say to no one that he is Jesus the Christ.Then he charged his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.Then he charged the disciples that they should tell no man that he was the Christ.
Matthew 16:21From that time began Jesus to shew to his disciples that it is necessary for him to go away to Jerusalem, and to suffer many things from the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and to be put to death, and the third day to rise.From that time forth Jesus began to show to his disciples, that he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.From that time, Jesus began to show to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.
Matthew 16:22And having taken him aside, Peter began to rebuke him, saying, `Be kind to thyself, sir; this shall not be to thee;`Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be to thee.Peter took him aside, and began to rebuke him, saying, "Far be it from you, Lord! This will never be done to you."
Matthew 16:23and he having turned, said to Peter, `Get thee behind me, adversary! thou art a stumbling-block to me, for thou dost not mind the things of God, but the things of men.`But he turned, and said to Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan; thou art an offense to me: for thou savorest not the things that are of God, but those that are of men.But he turned, and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling-block to me, for you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but the things of men."
Matthew 16:24Then said Jesus to his disciples, `If any one doth will to come after me, let him disown himself, and take up his cross, and follow me,Then said Jesus to his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If any man desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Matthew 16:25for whoever may will to save his life, shall lose it, and whoever may lose his life for my sake shall find it,For whoever will save his life, shall lose it: and whoever will lose his life for my sake, shall find it.For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, and whoever will lose his life for my sake will find it.
Matthew 16:26for what is a man profited if he may gain the whole world, but of his life suffer loss? or what shall a man give as an exchange for his life?For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?For what will it profit a man, if he will gain the whole world, and forfeit his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life?
Matthew 16:27`For, the Son of Man is about to come in the glory of his Father, with his messengers, and then he will reward each, according to his work.For the Son of man will come in the glory of his Father, with his angels; and then he will reward every man according to his works.For the Son of Man will come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then will he render to every man according to his deeds.
Matthew 16:28Verily I say to you, there are certain of those standing here who shall not taste of death till they may see the Son of Man coming in his reign.`Verily I say to you, There are some standing here, who shall not taste death, till they shall see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.Most assuredly I tell you, there are some standing here, who will in no way taste of death, until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."
