John 7:1And Jesus was walking after these things in Galilee, for he did not wish to walk in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him,After this Jesus moved from place to place in Galilee. He would not go about in Judaea, because the Jews were seeking an opportunity to kill Him.After this, Jesus went from place to place in Galilee. He did not go about in Judaea, because the Jews were looking for a chance to put him to death.
John 7:2and the feast of the Jews was nigh that of tabernaclesBut the Jewish Festival of the Tent-Pitching was approaching. But the feast of the Jews, the feast of tents, was near.
John 7:3his brethren, therefore, said unto him, `Remove hence, and go away to Judea, that thy disciples also may behold thy works that thou dost;So His brothers said to Him, "Leave these parts and go into Judaea, that not only we but your disciples also may witness the miracles which you perform. So his brothers said to him, Go away from here into Judaea so that your disciples may see the works which you do.
John 7:4for no one in secret doth anything, and himself seeketh to be in public; if thou dost these things manifest thyself to the world;`For no one acts in secret, desiring all the while to be himself known publicly. Since you are doing these things, show yourself openly to the world."Because no man does things secretly if he has a desire that men may have knowledge of him. If you do these things, let yourself be seen by all men.
John 7:5for not even were his brethren believing in him.For even His brothers were not believers in Him.For even his brothers had no belief in him.
John 7:6Jesus, therefore, saith to them, `My time is not yet present, but your time is always ready;"My time," replied Jesus, "has not yet come, but for you any time is suitable.Jesus said to them, My time is still to come, but any time is good for you.
John 7:7the world is not able to hate you, but me it doth hate, because I testify concerning it that its works are evil.It is impossible for the world to hate you; but me it does hate, because I give testimony concerning it that its conduct is evil.It is not possible for you to be hated by the world; but I am hated by it, because I give witness that what it does is evil.
John 7:8Ye go ye up to this feast; I do not yet go up to this feast, because my time hath not yet been fulfilled;`As for you, go up to the Festival. I do not now go up to this Festival, because my time is not yet fully come."Go you up to the feast: I am not going up now to the feast because my time has not fully come.
John 7:9and saying these things to them, he remained in Galilee.Such was His answer, and He remained in Galilee.Having said these things to them, he still kept in Galilee.
John 7:10And when his brethren went up, then also he himself went up to the feast, not manifestly, but as in secret; When however His brothers had gone up to the Festival, then He also went up, not openly, but as it were privately. But after his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he went up, not publicly, but in secret.
John 7:11the Jews, therefore, were seeking him, in the feast, and said, `Where is that one?`Meanwhile the Jews at the Festival were looking for Him and were inquiring, "Where is he?"At the feast the Jews were looking for him and saying, Where is he?
John 7:12and there was much murmuring about him among the multitudes, some indeed said `He is good;` and others said, `No, but he leadeth astray the multitude;`Among the mass of the people there was much muttered debate about Him. Some said, "He is a good man." Others said, "Not so: he is imposing on the people."And there was much discussion about him among the mass of the people. Some said, He is a good man; but others said, No, he is giving people false ideas.
John 7:13no one, however, was speaking freely about him, through fear of the Jews.Yet for fear of the Jews no one spoke out boldly about Him.But no man said anything about him openly for fear of the Jews.
John 7:14And it being now the middle of the feast, Jesus went up to the temple, and he was teaching,But when the Festival was already half over, Jesus went up to the Temple and commenced teaching. Now in the middle of the feast Jesus went up to the Temple and was teaching.
John 7:15and the Jews were wondering, saying, `How hath this one known letters not having learned?`The Jews were astonished. "How does this man know anything of books," they said, "although he has never been at any of the schools?"Then the Jews were surprised and said, How has this man got knowledge of books? He has never been to school.
John 7:16Jesus answered them and said, `My teaching is not mine, but His who sent me;Jesus answered their question by saying, "My teaching does not belong to me, but comes from Him who sent me.Jesus gave them this answer: It is not my teaching, but his who sent me.
John 7:17if any one may will to do His will, he shall know concerning the teaching, whether it is of God, or I do speak from myself. If any one is willing to do His will, he shall know about the teaching, whether it is from God or originates with me.If any man is ready to do God's pleasure he will have knowledge of the teaching and of where it comes from from God or from myself.
John 7:18`He who is speaking from himself his own glory doth seek, but he who is seeking the glory of him who sent him, this one is true, and unrighteousness is not in him;The man whose teaching originates with himself aims at his own glory. He who aims at the glory of Him who sent him teaches the truth, and there is no deception in him.The man whose words come from himself is looking for glory for himself, but he who is looking for the glory of him who sent him that man is true and there is no evil in him.
John 7:19hath not Moses given you the law? and none of you doth the law; why me do ye seek to kill?`Did not Moses give you the Law? And yet not a man of you obeys the Law. Why do you want to kill me?"Did not Moses give you the law? Even so, not one of you keeps the law. Why have you a desire to put me to death?
John 7:20The multitude answered and said, `Thou hast a demon, who doth seek to kill thee?`"You are possessed by a demon," replied the crowd; "no one wants to kill you."The people said in answer, You have an evil spirit: who has any desire to put you to death?
John 7:21Jesus answered and said to them, `One work I did, and ye all wonder,"One deed I have done," replied Jesus, "and you are all full of wonder. This was the answer of Jesus: I have done one work and you are all surprised at it.
John 7:22because of this, Moses hath given you the circumcision not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers and on a sabbath ye circumcise a man;Consider therefore. Moses gave you the rite of circumcision (not that it began with Moses, but with your earlier forefathers), and even on a Sabbath day you circumcise a child.Moses gave you circumcision not that it comes from Moses, but from the fathers and even on the Sabbath you give a child circumcision.
John 7:23if a man doth receive circumcision on a sabbath that the law of Moses may not be broken, are ye wroth with me that I made a man all whole on a sabbath? If a child is circumcised even on a Sabbath day, are you bitter against me because I have restored a man to perfect health on a Sabbath day?If a child is given circumcision on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me because I made a man completely well on the Sabbath?
John 7:24judge not according to appearance, but the righteous judgment judge.`Do not form superficial judgements, but form the judgements that are just."Let not your decisions be based on what you see, but on righteousness.
John 7:25Certain, therefore, of the Jerusalemites said, `Is not this he whom they are seeking to kill? Some however of the people of Jerusalem said, "Is not this the man they are wanting to kill? Then some of the people of Jerusalem said, Is not this the man whose death is desired?
John 7:26and, lo, he doth speak freely, and they say nothing to him; did the rulers at all know truly that this is truly the Christ? But here he is, speaking openly and boldly, and they say nothing to him! Can the Rulers really have ascertained that this man is the Christ? And here he is talking openly and they say nothing to him! Is it possible that the rulers have knowledge that this is truly the Christ?
John 7:27but this one we have known whence he is; and the Christ, when he doth come, no one doth know whence he is.`And yet we know this man, and we know where he is from; but as for the Christ, when He comes, no one can tell where He is from."However, it is clear to us where this man comes from: but when the Christ comes no one will have knowledge where he comes from.
John 7:28Jesus cried, therefore, in the temple, teaching and saying, `Ye have both known me, and ye have known whence I am; and I have not come of myself, but He who sent me is true, whom ye have not known;Jesus therefore, while teaching in the Temple, cried aloud, and said, "Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from. And yet I have not come of my own accord; but there is One who has sent me, an Authority indeed, of whom you have no knowledge. Then, when he was teaching in the Temple, Jesus said with a loud voice, You have knowledge of me and you have knowledge of where I come from; and I have not come of myself; but there is One who has sent me; he is true, but you have no knowledge of him.
John 7:29and I have known Him, because I am from Him, and He did send me.`I know Him, because I came from Him, and He sent me."I have knowledge of him because I came from him and he sent me.
John 7:30They were seeking, therefore, to seize him, and no one laid the hand on him, because his hour had not yet come,On hearing this they wanted to arrest Him; yet not a hand was laid on Him, because His time had not yet come. Then they had a desire to take him: but no man put hands on him because his hour was still to come.
John 7:31and many out of the multitude did believe in him, and said `The Christ when he may come will he do more signs than these that this one did?`But from among the crowd a large number believed in Him. "When the Christ comes," they said, "will He perform more miracles than this teacher has performed?"And numbers of the people had belief in him, and they said, When the Christ comes will he do more signs than this man has done?
John 7:32The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers that they may take him;The Pharisees heard the people thus expressing their various doubts about Him, and the High Priests and the Pharisees sent some officers to apprehend Him.This discussion of the people came to the ears of the Pharisees; and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent servants to take him.
John 7:33Jesus, therefore, said to them, `Yet a little time I am with you, and I go away unto Him who sent me;So Jesus said, "Still for a short time I am with you, and then I go my way to Him who sent me.Then Jesus said, I will be with you a little longer and then I go to him who sent me.
John 7:34ye will seek me, and ye shall not find; and where I am, ye are not able to come.`You will look for me and will not find me, and where I am you cannot come."You will be looking for me, and you will not see me: and where I am you may not come.
John 7:35The Jews, therefore, said among themselves, `Whither is this one about to go that we shall not find him? to the dispersion of the Greeks is he about to go? and to teach the Greeks; The Jews therefore said to one another, "Where is he about to betake himself, so that we shall not find him? Will he betake himself to the Dispersion among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles? So the Jews said among themselves, To what place is he going where we will not see him? will he go to the Jews living among the Greeks and become the teacher of the Greeks?
John 7:36what is this word that he said, Ye will seek me, and ye shall not find? and, Where I am, ye are not able to come?`What do those words of his mean, `You will look for me, but will not find me, and where I am you cannot come'?"What is this saying of his, You will be looking for me and will not see me, and where I am you may not come?
John 7:37And in the last, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, `If any one doth thirst, let him come unto me and drink; On the last day of the Festival the great day Jesus stood up and cried aloud. "Whoever is thirsty," He said, "let him come to me and drink. On the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus got up and said in a loud voice, If any man is in need of drink let him come to me and I will give it to him.
John 7:38he who is believing in me, according as the Writing said, Rivers out of his belly shall flow of living water;`He who believes in me, from within him as the Scripture has said rivers of living water shall flow."He who has faith in me, out of his body, as the Writings have said, will come rivers of living water.
John 7:39and this he said of the Spirit, which those believing in him were about to receive; for not yet was the Holy Spirit, because Jesus was not yet glorified. He referred to the Spirit which those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not bestowed as yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified. This he said of the Spirit which would be given to those who had faith in him: the Spirit had not been given then, because the glory of Jesus was still to come.
John 7:40Many, therefore out of the multitude, having heard the word, said, `This is truly the Prophet;`After listening to these discourses, some of the crowd began to say, "This is beyond doubt the Prophet."When these words came to their ears, some of the people said, This is certainly the prophet.
John 7:41others said, `This is the Christ;` and others said, `Why, out of Galilee doth the Christ come?Others said, "He is the Christ." But others again, "Not so, for is the Christ to come from Galilee?Others said, This is the Christ. But others said, Not so; will the Christ come from Galilee?
John 7:42Did not the Writing say, that out of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem the village where David was the Christ doth come?`Has not the Scripture declared that the Christ is to come of the family of David and from Bethlehem, David's village?"Do not the Writings say that the Christ comes of the seed of David and from Beth-lehem, the little town where David was?
John 7:43A division, therefore, arose among the multitude because of him.So there was a violent dissension among the people on His account. So there was a division among the people because of him.
John 7:44And certain of them were willing to seize him, but no one laid hands on him; Some of them wanted at once to arrest Him, but no one laid hands upon Him.And some of them had a desire to take him; but no man put hands on him.
John 7:45the officers came, therefore, unto the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, `Wherefore did ye not bring him?`Meanwhile the officers returned to the High Priests and Pharisees, who asked them, "Why have you not brought him?"Then the servants went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, Why have you not got him with you?
John 7:46The officers answered, `Never so spake man as this man.`"No mere man has ever spoken as this man speaks," said the officers. The servants made answer, No man ever said things like this man.
John 7:47The Pharisees, therefore, answered them, `Have ye also been led astray?"Are *you* deluded too?" replied the Pharisees; Then the Pharisees said to them, Have you, like the others, been given false ideas?
John 7:48did any one out of the rulers believe in him? or out of the Pharisees?"has any one of the Rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him?Have any of the rulers belief in him, or any one of the Pharisees?
John 7:49but this multitude, that is not knowing the law, is accursed.`But this rabble who understand nothing about the Law are accursed!"But these people who have no knowledge of the law are cursed.
John 7:50Nicodemus saith unto them he who came by night unto him being one of them,Nicodemus interposed he who had formerly gone to Jesus, being himself one of them.Nicodemus he who had come to Jesus before, being himself one of them said to them,
John 7:51`Doth our law judge the man, if it may not hear from him first, and know what he doth?`"Does our Law," he asked, "judge a man without first hearing what he has to say and ascertaining what his conduct is?"Is a man judged by our law before it has given him a hearing and has knowledge of what he has done?
John 7:52They answered and said to him, `Art thou also out of Galilee? search and see, that a prophet out of Galilee hath not risen;`"Do you also come from Galilee?" they asked in reply. "Search and see for yourself that no Prophet is of Galilaean origin."This was their answer: And do you come from Galilee? Make search and you will see that no prophet comes out of Galilee.
John 7:53and each one went on to his house, but Jesus went on to the mount of the Olives.[So they went away to their several homes;[And every man went to his house;
