Matthew 19:1And it came to pass, when Jesus finished these words, he removed from Galilee, and did come to the borders of Judea, beyond the Jordan,When Jesus had finished these discourses, He removed from Galilee and came into that part of Judaea which lay beyond the Jordan. And it came about that after saying these words, Jesus went away from Galilee, and came into the parts of Judaea on the other side of Jordan.
Matthew 19:2and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them there. And a vast multitude followed him, and He cured them there. And a great number went after him; and he made them well there.
Matthew 19:3And the Pharisees came near to him, tempting him, and saying to him, `Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?`Then came some of the Pharisees to Him to put Him to the proof by the question, "Has a man a right to divorce his wife whenever he chooses?"And certain Pharisees came to him, testing him, and saying, Is it right for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
Matthew 19:4And he answering said to them, `Did ye not read, that He who made [them], from the beginning a male and a female made them,"Have you not read," He replied, "that He who made them `made them' from the beginning `male and female,And he said in answer, Have you not seen in the Writings, that he who made them at the first made them male and female, and said,
Matthew 19:5and said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and cleave to his wife, and they shall be the two for one flesh?and said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two shall be one'?For this cause will a man go away from his father and mother, and be joined to his wife; and the two will become one flesh?
Matthew 19:6so that they are no more two, but one flesh; what therefore God did join together, let no man put asunder.`Thus they are no longer two, but `one'! What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate."So that they are no longer two, but one flesh. Then let not that which has been joined by God be parted by man.
Matthew 19:7They say to him, `Why then did Moses command to give a roll of divorce, and to put her away?`"Why then," said they, "did Moses command the husband to give her `a written notice of divorce,' and so put her away?"They say to him, Why then did Moses give orders that a husband might give her a statement in writing and be free from her?
Matthew 19:8He saith to them `Moses for your stiffness of heart did suffer you to put away your wives, but from the beginning it hath not been so."Moses," He replied, "in consideration of the hardness of your nature permitted you to put away your wives, but it has not been so from the beginning. He says to them, Moses, because of your hard hearts, let you put away your wives: but it has not been so from the first.
Matthew 19:9`And I say to you, that, whoever may put away his wife, if not for whoredom, and may marry another, doth commit adultery; and he who did marry her that hath been put away, doth commit adultery.`And I tell you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except her unfaithfulness, and marries another woman, commits adultery."And I say to you, Whoever puts away his wife for any other cause than the loss of her virtue, and takes another, is a false husband: and he who takes her as his wife when she is put away, is no true husband to her.
Matthew 19:10His disciples say to him, `If the case of the man with the woman is so, it is not good to marry.`"If this is the case with a man in relation to his wife," said the disciples to Him, "it is better not to marry."The disciples say to him, If this is the position of a man in relation to his wife, it is better not to be married.
Matthew 19:11And he said to them, `All do not receive this word, but those to whom it hath been given;"It is not every man," He replied, "who can receive this teaching, but only those on whom the grace has been bestowed. But he said to them, Not all men are able to take in this saying, but only those to whom it is given.
Matthew 19:12for there are eunuchs who from the mother`s womb were so born; and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are eunuchs who kept themselves eunuchs because of the reign of the heavens: he who is able to receive [it] let him receive.`There are men who from their birth have been disabled from marriage, others who have been so disabled by men, and others who have disabled themselves for the sake of the Kingdom of the Heavens. He who is able to receive this, let him receive it."For there are men who, from birth, were without sex: and there are some who were made so by men: and there are others who have made themselves so for the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to take it, let him take it.
Matthew 19:13Then were brought near to him children that he might put hands on them and pray, and the disciples rebuked them. Then young children were brought to Him for Him to put His hands on them and pray; but the disciples interfered. Then some people took little children to him, so that he might put his hands on them in blessing: and the disciples said sharp words to them.
Matthew 19:14But Jesus said, `Suffer the children, and forbid them not, to come unto me, for of such is the reign of the heavens;`Jesus however said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them; for it is to those who are childlike that the Kingdom of the Heavens belongs."But Jesus said, Let the little ones come to me, and do not keep them away: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 19:15and having laid on them [his] hands, he departed thence. So He laid His hands upon them and went away. And he put his hands on them, and went away.
Matthew 19:16And lo, one having come near, said to him, `Good teacher, what good thing shall I do, that I may have life age-during?`"Teacher," said one man, coming up to Him, "what that is good shall I do in order to win the Life of the Ages?"And one came to him and said, Master, what good thing have I to do, so that I may have eternal life?
Matthew 19:17And he said to him, `Why me dost thou call good? no one [is] good except One God; but if thou dost will to enter into the life, keep the commands.`"Why do you ask me," He replied, "about what is good? There is only One who is truly good. But if you desire to enter into Life, keep the Commandments."And he said to him, Why are you questioning me about what is good? One there is who is good: but if you have a desire to go into life, keep the rules of the law.
Matthew 19:18He saith to him, `What kind?` And Jesus said, `Thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not commit adultery, thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not bear false witness,"Which Commandments?" he asked. Jesus answered, "`Thou shalt not kill;' `Thou shalt not commit adultery;' `Thou shalt not steal;' `Thou shalt not lie in giving evidence;'He says to him, Which? And Jesus said, Do not put anyone to death, Do not be untrue in married life, Do not take what is not yours, Do not give false witness,
Matthew 19:19honour thy father and mother, and, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.``Honour thy father and thy mother'; and `Thou shalt love thy fellow man as much as thyself.'"Give honour to your father and your mother: and, Have love for your neighbour as for yourself.
Matthew 19:20The young man saith to him, `All these did I keep from my youth; what yet do I lack?`"All of these," said the young man, "I have carefully kept. What do I still lack?"The young man says to him, All these things have I done: what more is there?
Matthew 19:21Jesus said to him, `If thou dost will to be perfect, go away, sell what thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven, and come, follow me.`"If you desire to be perfect," replied Jesus, "go and sell all that you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have wealth in Heaven; and come, follow me."Jesus said to him, If you have a desire to be complete, go, get money for your property, and give it to the poor, and you will have wealth in heaven: and come after me.
Matthew 19:22And the young man, having heard the word, went away sorrowful, for he had many possessions; On hearing those words the young man went away much cast down; for he had much property. But hearing these words the young man went away sorrowing: for he had much property.
Matthew 19:23and Jesus said to his disciples, `Verily I say to you, that hardly shall a rich man enter into the reign of the heavens; So Jesus said to His disciples, "I solemnly tell you that it is with difficulty that a rich man will enter the Kingdom of the Heavens. And Jesus said to his disciples, Truly I say to you, It is hard for a man with much money to go into the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 19:24and again I say to you, it is easier for a camel through the eye of a needle to go, than for a rich man to enter into the reign of God.`Yes, I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God."And again I say to you, It is simpler for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a man with much money to go into the kingdom of God.
Matthew 19:25And his disciples having heard, were amazed exceedingly, saying, `Who, then, is able to be saved?`These words utterly amazed the disciples, and they asked, "Who then can be saved?"And the disciples, hearing this, were greatly surprised, saying, Who then may have salvation?
Matthew 19:26And Jesus having earnestly beheld, said to them, `With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.`Jesus looked at them and said, "With men this is impossible, but with God everything is possible."And Jesus, looking at them, said, With men this is not possible; but with God all things are possible.
Matthew 19:27Then Peter answering said to him, `Lo, we did leave all, and follow thee, what then shall we have?`Then Peter said to Jesus, "See, *we* have forsaken everything and followed you; what then will be *our* reward?"Then Peter said to him, See, we have given up everything and have come after you; what then will we have?
Matthew 19:28And Jesus said to them, `Verily I say to you, that ye who did follow me, in the regeneration, when the Son of Man may sit upon a throne of his glory, shall sit ye also upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel;"I solemnly tell you," replied Jesus, "that in the New Creation, when the Son of Man has taken His seat on His glorious throne, all of you who have followed me shall also sit on twelve thrones and judge the twelve tribes of Israel. And Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you that in the time when all things are made new, and the Son of man is seated in his glory, you who have come after me will be seated on twelve seats, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Matthew 19:29and every one who left houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or fields, for my name`s sake, an hundredfold shall receive, and life age-during shall inherit; And whoever has forsaken houses, or brothers or sisters, or father or mother, or children or lands, for my sake, shall receive many times as much and shall have as his inheritance the Life of the Ages. And everyone who has given up houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or child, or land, for my name, will be given a hundred times as much, and have eternal life.
Matthew 19:30and many first shall be last, and last first."But many who are now first will be last, and many who are now last will be first. But a great number who are first will be last, and some who are last will be first.
