The Young's Literal Translation Online Bible (YLT)The Weymouth New Testament Online Bible (WEY)The Darby Online Bible (DBY)
John 21:1After these things did Jesus manifest himself again to the disciples on the sea of Tiberias, and he did manifest himself thus:After this, Jesus again showed Himself to the disciples. It was at the Lake of Tiberias. The circumstances were as follows. After these things Jesus manifested himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias. And he manifested [himself] thus.
John 21:2There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas who is called Didymus, and Nathanael from Cana of Galilee, and the [sons] of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples.Simon Peter was with Thomas, called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zabdi, and two others of the Master's disciples. There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael who was of Cana of Galilee, and the [sons] of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples.
John 21:3Simon Peter saith to them, `I go away to fish;` they say to him, `We go we also with thee;` they went forth and entered into the boat immediately, and on that night they caught nothing.Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." "We will go too," said they. So they set out and went on board their boat; but they caught nothing that night.Simon Peter says to them, I go to fish. They say to him, We also come with thee. They went forth, and went on board, and that night took nothing.
John 21:4And morning being now come, Jesus stood at the shore, yet indeed the disciples did not know that it is Jesus; When, however, day was now dawning, Jesus stood on the beach, though the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. And early morn already breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; the disciples however did not know that it was Jesus.
John 21:5Jesus, therefore, saith to them, `Lads, have ye any meat?`He called to them. "Children," He said, "have you any food there?" "No," they answered.Jesus therefore says to them, Children, have ye anything to eat? They answered him, No.
John 21:6they answered him, `No;` and he said to them, `Cast the net at the right side of the boat, and ye shall find;` they cast, therefore, and no longer were they able to draw it, from the multitude of the fishes."Throw the net in on the right hand side," He said, "and you will find fish." So they threw the net in, and now they could scarcely drag it along for the quantity of fish. And he said to them, Cast the net at the right side of the ship and ye will find. They cast therefore, and they could no longer draw it, from the multitude of fishes.
John 21:7That disciple, therefore, whom Jesus was loving saith to Peter, `The Lord it is!` Simon Peter, therefore, having heard that it is the Lord, did gird on the outer coat, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea;This made the disciple whom Jesus loved say to Peter, "It is the Master." Simon Peter therefore, when he heard the words, "It is the Master," drew on his fisherman's shirt for he had not been wearing it put on his girdle, and sprang into the water.That disciple therefore whom Jesus loved says to Peter, It is the Lord. Simon Peter therefore, having heard that it was the Lord, girded his overcoat [on him] (for he was naked), and cast himself into the sea;
John 21:8and the other disciples came by the little boat, for they were not far from the land, but as it were about two hundred cubits off, dragging the net of the fishes; But the rest of the disciples came in the small boat (for they were not far from land only about a hundred yards off), dragging the net full of fish.and the other disciples came in the small boat, for they were not far from the land, but somewhere about two hundred cubits, dragging the net of fishes.
John 21:9when, therefore, they came to the land, they behold a fire of coals lying, and a fish lying on it, and bread. As soon as they landed, they saw a charcoal fire burning there, with fish broiling on it, and bread close by.When therefore they went out on the land, they see a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread.
John 21:10Jesus saith to them, `Bring ye from the fishes that ye caught now;`Jesus told them to fetch some of the fish which they had just caught.Jesus says to them, Bring of the fishes which ye have now taken.
John 21:11Simon Peter went up, and drew the net up on the land, full of great fishes, an hundred fifty and three, and though they were so many, the net was not rent.So Simon Peter went on board the boat and drew the net ashore full of large fish, 153 in number; and yet, although there were so many, the net had not broken.Simon Peter went up and drew the net to the land full of great fishes, a hundred and fifty-three; and though there were so many, the net was not rent.
John 21:12Jesus saith to them, `Come ye, dine;` and none of the disciples was venturing to inquire of him, `Who art thou?` knowing that it is the Lord;"Come this way and have breakfast," said Jesus. But not one of the disciples ventured to question Him as to who He was, for they felt sure that it was the Master.Jesus says to them, Come [and] dine. But none of the disciples dared inquire of him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.
John 21:13Jesus, therefore, doth come and take the bread and give to them, and the fish in like manner; Then Jesus came and took the bread and gave them some, and the fish in the same way.Jesus comes and takes the bread and gives it to them, and the fish in like manner.
John 21:14this [is] now a third time Jesus was manifested to his disciples, having been raised from the dead. This was now the third occasion on which Jesus showed Himself to the disciples after He had risen from among the dead. This is already the third time that Jesus had been manifested to the disciples, being risen from among [the] dead.
John 21:15When, therefore, they dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, `Simon, [son] of Jonas, dost thou love me more than these?` he saith to him, `Yes, Lord; thou hast known that I dearly love thee;` he saith to him, `Feed my lambs.`When they had finished breakfast, Jesus asked Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these others do?" "Yes, Master," was his answer; "you know that you are dear to me." "Then feed my lambs," replied Jesus. When therefore they had dined, Jesus says to Simon Peter, Simon, [son] of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He says to him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I am attached to thee. He says to him, Feed my lambs.
John 21:16He saith to him again, a second time, `Simon, [son] of Jonas, dost thou love me?` he saith to him, `Yes, Lord; thou hast known that I dearly love thee;` he saith to him, `Tend my sheep.`Again a second time He asked him, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" "Yes, Master," he said, "you know that you are dear to me." "Then be a shepherd to my sheep," He said.He says to him again a second time, Simon, [son] of Jonas, lovest thou me? He says to him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I am attached to thee. He says to him, Shepherd my sheep.
John 21:17He saith to him the third time, `Simon, [son] of Jonas, dost thou dearly love me?` Peter was grieved that he said to him the third time, `Dost thou dearly love me?` and he said to him, `Lord, thou hast known all things; thou dost know that I dearly love thee.` Jesus saith to him, `Feed my sheep;A third time Jesus put the question: "Simon, son of John, am I dear to you?" It grieved Peter that Jesus asked him the third time, "Am I dear to you?" "Master," he replied, "you know everything, you can see that you are dear to me." "Then feed my much-loved sheep," said Jesus. He says to him the third time, Simon, [son] of Jonas, art thou attached to me? Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, Art thou attached to me? and said to him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I am attached to thee. Jesus says to him, Feed my sheep.
John 21:18verily, verily, I say to thee, When thou wast younger, thou wast girding thyself and wast walking whither thou didst will, but when thou mayest be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another will gird thee, and shall carry [thee] whither thou dost not will;`"In most solemn truth I tell you that whereas, when you were young, you used to put on your girdle and walk whichever way you chose, when you have grown old you will stretch out your arms and some one else will put a girdle round you and carry you where you have no wish to go."Verily, verily, I say to thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst where thou desiredst; but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and bring thee where thou dost not desire.
John 21:19and this he said, signifying by what death he shall glorify God; and having said this, he saith to him, `Be following me.`This He said to indicate the kind of death by which that disciple would bring glory to God; and after speaking thus He said to him, "Follow me."But he said this signifying by what death he should glorify God. And having said this, he says to him, Follow me.
John 21:20And Peter having turned about doth see the disciple whom Jesus was loving following, (who also reclined in the supper on his breast, and said, `Sir, who is he who is delivering thee up?`)Peter turned round and noticed the disciple whom Jesus loved following the one who at the supper had leaned back on His breast and had asked, "Master, who is it that is betraying you?"Peter, turning round, sees the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also leaned at supper on his breast, and said, Lord, who is it that delivers thee up?
John 21:21Peter having seen this one, saith to Jesus, `Lord, and what of this one?`On seeing him, Peter asked Jesus, "And, Master, what about him?"Peter, seeing him, says to Jesus, Lord, and what [of] this [man]?
John 21:22Jesus saith to him, `If him I will to remain till I come, what to thee? be thou following me.` This word, therefore, went forth to the brethren that that disciple doth not die,"If I desire him to remain till I come," replied Jesus, "what concern is that of yours? You, yourself, must follow me."Jesus says to him, If I will that he abide until I come, what [is that] to thee? Follow thou me.
John 21:23yet Jesus did not say to him, that he doth not die, but, `If him I will to remain till I come, what to thee?`Hence the report spread among the brethren that that disciple would never die. Yet Jesus did not say, "He is not to die," but, "If I desire him to remain till I come, what concern is that of yours?"This word therefore went out among the brethren, That disciple does not die. And Jesus did not say to him, He does not die; but, If I will that he abide until I come, what [is that] to thee?
John 21:24this is the disciple who is testifying concerning these things, and he wrote these things, and we have known that his testimony is true. That is the disciple who gives his testimony as to these matters, and has written this history; and we know that his testimony is true. This is the disciple who bears witness concerning these things, and who has written these things; and we know that his witness is true.
John 21:25And there are also many other things as many as Jesus did which, if they may be written one by one, not even the world itself I think to have place for the books written. Amen. But there are also many other things which Jesus did so vast a number indeed that if they were all described in detail, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would have to be written. And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which if they were written one by one, I suppose that not even the world itself would contain the books written.
