There He seated Himself, and when His disciples came to Him,But seeing the crowds, he went up into the mountain, and having sat down, his disciples came to him;
Matthew 5:2and having opened his mouth, he was teaching them, saying:He proceeded to teach them, and said:and, having opened his mouth, he taught them, saying,

Matthew 5:6`Happy those hungering and thirsting for righteousness because they shall be filled."Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be completely satisfied.Blessed they who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for *they* shall be filled.
Matthew 5:7`Happy the kind because they shall find kindness."Blessed are the compassionate, for they shall receive compassion.Blessed the merciful, for *they* shall find mercy.
Matthew 5:8`Happy the clean in heart because they shall see God."Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.Blessed the pure in heart, for *they* shall see God.
Matthew 5:9`Happy the peacemakers because they shall be called Sons of God."Blessed are the peacemakers, for it is they who will be recognized as sons of God.Blessed the peace-makers, for *they* shall be called sons of God.
Matthew 5:10`Happy those persecuted for righteousness` sake because theirs is the reign of the heavens."Blessed are those who have borne persecution in the cause of Righteousness, for to them belongs the Kingdom of the Heavens.Blessed they who are persecuted on account of righteousness, for *theirs* is the kingdom of the heavens.
Matthew 5:11`Happy are ye whenever they may reproach you, and may persecute, and may say any evil thing against you falsely for my sake"Blessed are you when they have insulted and persecuted you, and have said every cruel thing about you falsely for my sake.Blessed are ye when they may reproach and persecute you, and say every wicked thing against you, lying, for my sake.
Matthew 5:12rejoice ye and be glad, because your reward [is] great in the heavens, for thus did they persecute the prophets who were before you.Be joyful and triumphant, because your reward is great in the Heavens; for so were the Prophets before you persecuted.Rejoice and exult, for your reward is great in the heavens; for thus have they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Matthew 5:13`Ye are the salt of the land, but if the salt may lose savour, in what shall it be salted? for nothing is it good henceforth, except to be cast without, and to be trodden down by men."*You* are the salt of the earth; but if salt has become tasteless, in what way can it regain its saltness? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown away and trodden on by the passers by.*Ye* are the salt of the earth; but if the salt have become insipid, wherewith shall it be salted? It is no longer fit for anything but to be cast out and to be trodden under foot by men.
Matthew 5:14`Ye are the light of the world, a city set upon a mount is not able to be hid;*You* are the light of the world; a town cannot be hid if built on a hill-top.*Ye* are the light of the world: a city situated on the top of a mountain cannot be hid.
Matthew 5:15nor do they light a lamp, and put it under the measure, but on the lamp-stand, and it shineth to all those in the house;Nor is a lamp lighted to be put under a bushel, but on the lampstand; and then it gives light to all in the house.Nor do [men] light a lamp and put it under the bushel, but upon the lamp-stand, and it shines for all who are in the house.
Matthew 5:16so let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and may glorify your Father who [is] in the heavens.Just so let your light shine before all men, in order that they may see your holy lives and may give glory to your Father who is in Heaven.Let your light thus shine before men, so that they may see your upright works, and glorify your Father who is in the heavens.
Matthew 5:17`Do not suppose that I came to throw down the law or the prophets I did not come to throw down, but to fulfill;"Do not for a moment suppose that I have come to abrogate the Law or the Prophets: I have not come to abrogate them but to give them their completion.Think not that I am come to make void the law or the prophets; I am not come to make void, but to fulfil.
Matthew 5:18for, verily I say to you, till that the heaven and the earth may pass away, one iota or one tittle may not pass away from the law, till that all may come to pass.Solemnly I tell you that until Heaven and earth pass away, not one iota or smallest detail will pass away from the Law until all has taken place.For verily I say unto you, Until the heaven and the earth pass away, one iota or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law till all come to pass.
Matthew 5:19`Whoever therefore may loose one of these commands the least and may teach men so, least he shall be called in the reign of the heavens, but whoever may do and may teach [them], he shall be called great in the reign of the heavens.Whoever therefore breaks one of these least commandments and teaches others to break them, will be called the least in the Kingdom of the Heavens; but whoever practises them and teaches them, he will be acknowledged as great in the Kingdom of the Heavens.Whosoever then shall do away with one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of the heavens; but whosoever shall practise and teach [them], *he* shall be called great in the kingdom of the heavens.
Matthew 5:20`For I say to you, that if your righteousness may not abound above that of the scribes and Pharisees, ye may not enter to the reign of the heavens.For I assure you that unless your righteousness greatly surpasses that of the Scribes and the Pharisees, you will certainly not find entrance into the Kingdom of the Heavens.For I say unto you, that unless your righteousness surpass [that] of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of the heavens.
Matthew 5:21`Ye heard that it was said to the ancients: Thou shalt not kill, and whoever may kill shall be in danger of the judgment;"You have heard that it was said to the ancients, `Thou shalt not commit murder', and whoever commits murder will be answerable to the magistrate.Ye have heard that it was said to the ancients, Thou shalt not kill; but whosoever shall kill shall be subject to the judgment.
Matthew 5:22but I I say to you, that every one who is angry at his brother without cause, shall be in danger of the judgment, and whoever may say to his brother, Empty fellow! shall be in danger of the sanhedrim, and whoever may say, Rebel! shall be in danger of the gehenna of the fire.But I say to you that every one who becomes angry with his brother shall be answerable to the magistrate; that whoever says to his brother `Raca,' shall be answerable to the Sanhedrin; and that whoever says, `You fool!' shall be liable to the Gehenna of Fire.But *I* say unto you, that every one that is lightly angry with his brother shall be subject to the judgment; but whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be subject to [be called before] the sanhedrim; but whosoever shall say, Fool, shall be subject to the penalty of the hell of fire.
Matthew 5:23`If, therefore, thou mayest bring thy gift to the altar, and there mayest remember that thy brother hath anything against thee,If therefore when you are offering your gift upon the altar, you remember that your brother has a grievance against you,If therefore thou shouldest offer thy gift at the altar, and there shouldest remember that thy brother has something against thee,
Matthew 5:24leave there thy gift before the altar, and go first be reconciled to thy brother, and then having come bring thy gift.leave your gift there before the altar, and go and make friends with your brother first, and then return and proceed to offer your gift.leave there thy gift before the altar, and first go, be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
Matthew 5:25`Be agreeing with thy opponent quickly, while thou art in the way with him, that the opponent may not deliver thee to the judge, and the judge may deliver thee to the officer, and to prison thou mayest be cast,Come to terms without delay with your opponent while you are yet with him on the way to the court; for fear he should obtain judgement from the magistrate against you, and the magistrate should give you in custody to the officer and you be thrown into prison.Make friends with thine adverse party quickly, whilst thou art in the way with him; lest some time the adverse party deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
Matthew 5:26verily I say to thee, thou mayest not come forth thence till that thou mayest pay the last farthing.I solemnly tell you that you will certainly not be released till you have paid the very last farthing.Verily I say to thee, Thou shalt in no wise come out thence till thou hast paid the last farthing.
Matthew 5:27`Ye heard that it was said to the ancients: Thou shalt not commit adultery;"You have heard that it was said, `Thou shalt not commit adultery.'Ye have heard that it has been said, Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Matthew 5:28but I I say to you, that every one who is looking on a woman to desire her, did already commit adultery with her in his heart.But I tell you that whoever looks at a woman and cherishes lustful thoughts has already in his heart become guilty with regard to her.But *I* say unto you, that every one who looks upon a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Matthew 5:29`But, if thy right eye doth cause thee to stumble, pluck it out and cast from thee, for it is good to thee that one of thy members may perish, and not thy whole body be cast to gehenna.If therefore your eye, even the right eye, is a snare to you, tear it out and away with it; it is better for you that one member should be destroyed rather than that your whole body should be thrown into Gehenna.But if thy right eye be a snare to thee, pluck it out and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members perish, and not thy whole body be cast into hell.
Matthew 5:30`And, if thy right hand doth cause thee to stumble, cut it off, and cast from thee, for it is good to thee that one of thy members may perish, and not thy whole body be cast to gehenna.And if your right hand is a snare to you, cut it off and away with it; it is better for you that one member should be destroyed rather than that your whole body should go into Gehenna.And if thy right hand be a snare to thee, cut it off and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members perish, and not thy whole body be cast into hell.
Matthew 5:31`And it was said, That whoever may put away his wife, let him give to her a writing of divorce;"It was also said, `If any man puts away his wife, let him give her a written notice of divorce.'It has been said too, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a letter of divorce.
Matthew 5:32but I I say to you, that whoever may put away his wife, save for the matter of whoredom, doth make her to commit adultery; and whoever may marry her who hath been put away doth commit adultery.But I tell you that every man who puts away his wife except on the ground of unfaithfulness causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries her when so divorced commits adultery.But *I* say unto you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, except for cause of fornication, makes her commit adultery, and whosoever marries one that is put away commits adultery.
Matthew 5:33`Again, ye heard that it was said to the ancients: Thou shalt not swear falsely, but thou shalt pay to the Lord thine oaths;"Again, you have heard that it was said to the ancients, `Thou shalt not swear falsely, but shalt perform thy vows to the Lord.'Again, ye have heard that it has been said to the ancients, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt render to the Lord what thou hast sworn.

Matthew 5:39but I I say to you, not to resist the evil, but whoever shall slap thee on thy right cheek, turn to him also the other;But I tell you not to resist a wicked man, but if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other to him as well.But *I* say unto you, not to resist evil; but whoever shall strike thee on thy right cheek, turn to him also the other;
Matthew 5:40and whoever is willing to take thee to law, and thy coat to take suffer to him also the cloak.If any one wishes to go to law with you and to deprive you of your under garment, let him take your outer one also.and to him that would go to law with thee and take thy body coat, leave him thy cloak also.

Matthew 5:43`Ye heard that it was said: Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and shalt hate thine enemy;"You have heard that it was said, `Thou shalt love thy neighbour and hate thine enemy.'Ye have heard that it has been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour and hate thine enemy.
Matthew 5:44but I I say to you, Love your enemies, bless those cursing you, do good to those hating you, and pray for those accusing you falsely, and persecuting you,But I command you all, love your enemies, and pray for your persecutors;But *I* say unto you, Love your enemies, [bless those who curse you,] do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who [insult you and] persecute you,
Matthew 5:45that ye may be sons of your Father in the heavens, because His sun He doth cause to rise on evil and good, and He doth send rain on righteous and unrighteous.that so you may become true sons of your Father in Heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the wicked as well as the good, and sends rain upon those who do right and those who do wrong.that ye may be [the] sons of your Father who is in [the] heavens; for he makes his sun rise on evil and good, and sends rain on just and unjust.
Matthew 5:46`For, if ye may love those loving you, what reward have ye? do not also the tax-gatherers the same?For if you love only those who love you, what reward have you earned? Do not even the tax-gatherers do that?For if ye should love those who love you, what reward have ye? Do not also the tax-gatherers the same?
Matthew 5:47and if ye may salute your brethren only, what do ye abundant? do not also the tax-gatherers so?And if you salute only your near relatives, what praise is due to you? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?And if ye should salute your brethren only, what do ye extraordinary? Do not also the Gentiles the same?
