Matthew 13:1And in that day Jesus, having gone forth from the house, was sitting by the sea,That same day Jesus had left the house and was sitting on the shore of the Lake,The same day Jesus going out of the house, sat by the sea side.
Matthew 13:2and gathered together unto him were many multitudes, so that he having gone into the boat did sit down, and all the multitude on the beach did stand, when a vast multitude of people crowded round Him. He therefore went on board a boat and sat there, while all the people stood on the shore. And great multitudes were gathered unto him, so that he went up into a boat and sat: and all the multitude stood on the shore.
Matthew 13:3and he spake to them many things in similes, saying: `Lo, the sower went forth to sow,He then spoke many things to them in figurative language. "The sower goes out," He said, "to sow.And he spoke to them many things in parables, saying: Behold the sower went forth to sow.
Matthew 13:4and in his sowing, some indeed fell by the way, and the fowls did come and devour them,As he sows, some of the seed falls by the way-side, and the birds come and peck it up.And whilst he soweth some fell by the way side, and the birds of the air came and ate them up.
Matthew 13:5and others fell upon the rocky places, where they had not much earth, and immediately they sprang forth, through not having depth of earth,Some falls on rocky ground, where it has but scanty soil. It quickly shows itself above ground, because it has no depth of earth; And other some fell upon stony ground, where they had not much earth: and they sprung up immediately, because they had no deepness of earth.
Matthew 13:6and the sun having risen they were scorched, and through not having root, they withered, but when the sun is risen, it is scorched by the heat, and through having no root it withers up.And when the sun was up they were scorched: and because they had not root, they withered away.
Matthew 13:7and others fell upon the thorns, and the thorns did come up and choke them,Some falls among the thorns; but the thorns spring up and stifle it.And others fell among thorns: and the thorns grew up and choked them.
Matthew 13:8and others fell upon the good ground, and were giving fruit, some indeed a hundredfold, and some sixty, and some thirty. But a portion falls upon good ground, and gives a return, some a hundred for one, some sixty, some thirty. And others fell upon good ground: and they brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, and some thirtyfold.
Matthew 13:9He who is having ears to hear let him hear.`Listen, every one who has ears!"He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Matthew 13:10And the disciples having come near, said to him, `Wherefore in similes dost thou speak to them?`(And His disciples came and asked Him, "Why do you speak to them in figurative language?"And his disciples came and said to him: Why speakest thou to them in parables?
Matthew 13:11And he answering said to them that `To you it hath been given to know the secrets of the reign of the heavens, and to these it hath not been given,"Because," He replied, "while to you it is granted to know the secrets of the Kingdom of the Heavens, to them it is not.Who answered and said to them: Because to you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven: but to them it is not given.
Matthew 13:12for whoever hath, it shall be given to him, and he shall have overabundance, and whoever hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken from him.For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he shall have abundance; but whoever has not, from him even what he has shall be taken away. For he that hath, to him shall be given, and he shall abound: but he that hath not, from him shall be taken away that also which he hath.
Matthew 13:13`Because of this, in similes do I speak to them, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor understand,I speak to them in figurative language for this reason, that while looking they do not see, and while hearing they neither hear nor understand. Therefore do I speak to them in parables: because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
Matthew 13:14and fulfilled on them is the prophecy of Isaiah, that saith, With hearing ye shall hear, and ye shall not understand, and seeing ye shall see, and ye shall not perceive,And in regard to them the prophecy of Isaiah is receiving signal fulfilment: "`You will hear and hear and by no means understand, and you will look and look and by no means see.And the prophecy of Isaias is fulfilled in them, who saith: By hearing you shall hear, and shall not understand: and seeing you shall see, and shall not perceive.
Matthew 13:15for made gross was the heart of this people, and with the ears they heard heavily, and their eyes they did close, lest they might see with the eyes, and with the ears might hear, and with the heart understand, and turn back, and I might heal them. For this people's mind is stupefied, their hearing has become dull, and their eyes they have closed; to prevent their ever seeing with their eyes, or hearing with their ears, or understanding with their minds, and turning back, so that I might heal them.'For the heart of this people is grown gross, and with their ears they have been dull of hearing, and their eyes they have shut: lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.
Matthew 13:16`And happy are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear,"But as for you, blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. But blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear.
Matthew 13:17for verily I say to you, that many prophets and righteous men did desire to see that which ye look on, and they did not see, and to hear that which ye hear, and they did not hear. For I solemnly tell you that many Prophets and holy men have longed to see the sights you see, and have not seen them, and to hear the words you hear, and have not heard them. For, amen, I say to you, many prophets and just men have desired to see the things that you see, and have not seen them, and to hear the things that you hear and have not heard them.
Matthew 13:18`Ye, therefore, hear ye the simile of the sower:"To you then I will explain the parable of the Sower.Hear you therefore the parable of the sower.
Matthew 13:19Every one hearing the word of the reign, and not understanding the evil one doth come, and doth catch that which hath been sown in his heart; this is that sown by the way. When a man hears the Message concerning the Kingdom and does not understand it, the Evil one comes and catches away what has been sown in his heart. This is he who has received the seed by the road-side.When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, there cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart: this is he that received the seed by the way side.
Matthew 13:20`And that sown on the rocky places, this is he who is hearing the word, and immediately with joy is receiving it,He who has received the seed on the rocky ground is the man who hears the Message and immediately receives it with joy.And he that received the seed upon stony ground, is he that heareth the word, and immediately receiveth it with joy.
Matthew 13:21and he hath not root in himself, but is temporary, and persecution or tribulation having happened because of the word, immediately he is stumbled. It has struck no root, however, within him. He continues for a time, but when suffering comes, or persecution, because of the Message, he at once stumbles and falls.Yet hath he not root in himself, but is only for a time: and when there ariseth tribulation and persecution because of the word, he is presently scandalized.
Matthew 13:22`And that sown toward the thorns, this is he who is hearing the word, and the anxiety of this age, and the deceitfulness of the riches, do choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. He who has received the seed among the thorns is the man who hears the Message, but the cares of the present age and the delusions of riches quite stifle the Message, and it becomes unfruitful. And he that received the seed among thorns, is he that heareth the word, and the care of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choketh up the word, and he becometh fruitless.
Matthew 13:23`And that sown on the good ground: this is he who is hearing the word, and is understanding, who indeed doth bear fruit, and doth make, some indeed a hundredfold, and some sixty, and some thirty.`But he who has received the seed on good ground is he who hears and understands. Such hearers give a return, and yield one a hundred for one, another sixty, another thirty.")But he that received the seed upon good ground, is he that heareth the word, and understandeth, and beareth fruit, and yieldeth the one an hundredfold, and another sixty, and another thirty.
Matthew 13:24Another simile he set before them, saying: `The reign of the heavens was likened to a man sowing good seed in his field,Another parable He put before them. "The Kingdom of the Heavens," He said, "may be compared to a man who has sown good seed in his field,Another parable he proposed to them, saying: The kingdom of heaven is likened to a man that sowed good seeds in his field.
Matthew 13:25and, while men are sleeping, his enemy came and sowed darnel in the midst of the wheat, and went away, but during the night his enemy comes, and over the first seed he sows darnel among the wheat, and goes away. But while men were asleep, his enemy came and oversowed cockle among the wheat and went his way.
Matthew 13:26and when the herb sprang up, and yielded fruit, then appeared also the darnel. But when the blade shoots up and the grain is formed, then appears the darnel also. And when the blade was sprung up, and had brought forth fruit, then appeared also the cockle.
Matthew 13:27`And the servants of the householder, having come near, said to him, Sir, good seed didst thou not sow in thy field? whence then hath it the darnel?"So the farmer's men come and ask him, "`Sir, was it not good seed that you sowed on your land? Where then does the darnel come from?'And the servants of the goodman of the house coming said to him: Sir, didst thou not sow good seed in thy field? whence then hath it cockle?
Matthew 13:28And he saith to them, A man, an enemy, did this; and the servants said to him, Wilt thou, then, [that] having gone away we may gather it up?"`Some enemy has done this,' he said. "`Shall we go, and collect it?' the men inquire. And he said to them: An enemy hath done this. And the servants said to him: Wilt thou that we go and gather it up?
Matthew 13:29`And he said, No, lest gathering up the darnel ye root up with it the wheat,"`No,' he replied, `for fear that while collecting the darnel you should at the same time root up the wheat with it.And he said: No, lest perhaps gathering up the cockle, you root up the wheat also together with it.
Matthew 13:30suffer both to grow together till the harvest, and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather up first the darnel, and bind it in bundles, to burn it, and the wheat gather up into my storehouse.`Leave both to grow together until the harvest, and at harvest-time I will direct the reapers, Collect the darnel first, and make it up into bundles to burn it, but bring all the wheat into my barn.'"Suffer both to grow until the harvest, and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers: Gather up first the cockle, and bind it into bundles to burn, but the wheat gather ye into my barn.
Matthew 13:31Another simile he set before them, saying: `The reign of the heavens is like to a grain of mustard, which a man having taken, did sow in his field,Another parable He put before them. "The Kingdom of the Heavens," He said, "is like a mustard-seed, which a man takes and sows in his ground.Another parable he proposed unto them, saying: The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field.
Matthew 13:32which less, indeed, is than all the seeds, but when it may be grown, is greatest of the herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the heaven do come and rest in its branches.`It is the smallest of all seeds, and yet when full-grown it is larger than any herb and forms a tree, so that the birds come and build in its branches."Which is the least indeed of all seeds; but when it is grown up, it is greater than all herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come, and dwell in the branches thereof.
Matthew 13:33Another simile spake he to them: `The reign of the heavens is like to leaven, which a woman having taken, hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.`Another parable He spoke to them. "The Kingdom of the Heavens," He said, "is like yeast which a woman takes and buries in a bushel of flour, for it to work there till the whole mass has risen."Another parable he spoke to them: The kingdom of heaven is like to leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, until the whole was leavened.
Matthew 13:34All these things spake Jesus in similes to the multitudes, and without a simile he was not speaking to them,All this Jesus spoke to the people in figurative language, and except in figurative language He spoke nothing to them,All these things Jesus spoke in parables to the multitudes: and without parables he did not speak to them.
Matthew 13:35that it might be fulfilled that was spoken through the prophet, saying, `I will open in similes my mouth, I will utter things having been hidden from the foundation of the world.`in fulfilment of the saying of the Prophet, "I will open my mouth in figurative language, I will utter things kept hidden since the creation of all things."That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.
Matthew 13:36Then having let away the multitudes, Jesus came to the house, and his disciples came near to him, saying, `Explain to us the simile of the darnel of the field.`When He had dismissed the people and had returned to the house, His disciples came to Him with the request, "Explain to us the parable of the darnel sown in the field."Then having sent away the multitudes, he came into the house, and his disciples came to him, saying: Expound to us the parable of the cockle of the field.
Matthew 13:37And he answering said to them, `He who is sowing the good seed is the Son of Man,"The sower of the good seed," He replied, "is the Son of Man;Who made answer and said to them: He that soweth the good seed, is the Son of man.
Matthew 13:38and the field is the world, and the good seed, these are the sons of the reign, and the darnel are the sons of the evil one,the field is the world; the good seed these are the sons of the Kingdom; the darnel, the sons of the Evil one.And the field, is the world. And the good seed are the children of the kingdom. And the cockle, are the children of the wicked one.
Matthew 13:39and the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is a full end of the age, and the reapers are messengers. The enemy who sows the darnel is *the Devil*; the harvest is the Close of the Age; the reapers are the angels. And the enemy that sowed them, is the devil. But the harvest is the end of the world. And the reapers are the angels.
Matthew 13:40`As, then, the darnel is gathered up, and is burned with fire, so shall it be in the full end of this age,As then the darnel is collected together and burnt up with fire, so will it be at the Close of the Age.Even as cockle therefore is gathered up, and burnt with fire: so shall it be at the end of the world.
Matthew 13:41the Son of Man shall send forth his messengers, and they shall gather up out of his kingdom all the stumbling-blocks, and those doing the unlawlessness,The Son of Man will commission His angels, and they will gather out of His Kingdom all causes of sin and all who violate His laws; The Son of man shall send his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all scandals, and them that work iniquity.
Matthew 13:42and shall cast them to the furnace of the fire; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth.and these they will throw into the fiery furnace. There will be the weeping aloud and the gnashing of teeth. And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 13:43`Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the reign of their Father. He who is having ears to hear let him hear. Then will the righteous shine out like the sun in their Father's Kingdom. Listen, every one who has ears! Then shall the just shine as the sun, in the kingdom of their Father. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Matthew 13:44`Again, the reign of the heavens is like to treasure hid in the field, which a man having found did hide, and from his joy goeth, and all, as much as he hath, he selleth, and buyeth that field."The Kingdom of the Heavens is like treasure buried in the open country, which a man finds, but buries again, and, in his joy about it, goes and sells all he has and buys that piece of ground. The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in a field. Which a man having found, hid it, and for joy thereof goeth, and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
Matthew 13:45`Again, the reign of the heavens is like to a man, a merchant, seeking goodly pearls,"Again the Kingdom of the Heavens is like a jewel merchant who is in quest of choice pearls.Again the kingdom of heaven is like to a merchant seeking good pearls.
Matthew 13:46who having found one pearl of great price, having gone away, hath sold all, as much as he had, and bought it.He finds one most costly pearl; he goes away; and though it costs all he has, he buys it.Who when he had found one pearl of great price, went his way, and sold all that he had, and bought it.
Matthew 13:47`Again, the reign of the heavens is like to a net that was cast into the sea, and did gather together of every kind,"Again the Kingdom of the Heavens is like a draw-net let down into the sea, which encloses fish of all sorts.Again the kingdom of heaven is like to a net cast into the sea, and gathering together of all kind of fishes.
Matthew 13:48which, when it was filled, having drawn up again upon the beach, and having sat down, they gathered the good into vessels, and the bad they did cast out,When full, they haul it up on the beach, and sit down and collect the good fish in baskets, while the worthless they throw away.Which, when it was filled, they drew out, and sitting by the shore, they chose out the good into vessels, but the bad they cast forth.
Matthew 13:49so shall it be in the full end of the age, the messengers shall come forth and separate the evil out of the midst of the righteous,So will it be at the Close of the Age. The angels will go forth and separate the wicked from among the righteous,So shall it be at the end of the world. The angels shall go out, and shall separate the wicked from among the just.
Matthew 13:50and shall cast them to the furnace of the fire, there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth.`and will throw them into the fiery furnace. There will be the weeping aloud and the gnashing of teeth."And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 13:51Jesus saith to them, `Did ye understand all these?` They say to him, `Yes, sir.`"Have you understood all this?" He asked. "Yes," they said.Have ye understood all these things? They say to him: Yes.
Matthew 13:52And he said to them, `Because of this every scribe having been discipled in regard to the reign of the heavens, is like to a man, a householder, who doth bring forth out of his treasure things new and old.`"Therefore," He said, "remember that every Scribe well trained for the Kingdom of the Heavens is like a householder who brings out of his storehouse new things and old."He said unto them: Therefore every scribe instructed in the kingdom of heaven, is like to a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure new things and old.
Matthew 13:53And it came to pass, when Jesus finished these similes, he removed thence,Jesus concluded this series of parables and then departed. And it came to pass: when Jesus had finished these parables, he passed from thence.
Matthew 13:54and having come to his own country, he was teaching them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and were saying, `Whence to this one this wisdom and the mighty works? And He came into His own country and proceeded to teach in their synagogue, so that they were filled with astonishment and exclaimed, "Where did he obtain such wisdom, and these wondrous powers? And coming into his own country, he taught them in their synagogues, so that they wondered and said: How came this man by this wisdom and miracles?
Matthew 13:55is not this the carpenter`s son? is not his mother called Mary, and his brethren James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers, James, Joseph, Simon and Judah? Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary, and his brethren James, and Joseph, and Simon, and Jude:
Matthew 13:56and his sisters are they not all with us? whence, then, to this one all these?`And his sisters are they not all living here among us? Where then did he get all this?"And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence therefore hath he all these things?

But Jesus said to them, "There is no prophet left without honour except in his own country and among his own family."And they were scandalized in his regard. But Jesus said to them: A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.
Matthew 13:58and he did not there many mighty works, because of their unbelief. And He performed but few mighty deeds there because of their want of faith. And he wrought not many miracles there, because of their unbelief.
