Genesis 20:1 | And Abraham journeyeth from thence toward the land of the south, and dwelleth between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourneth in Gerar; | | And Abraham journeyed from thence towards the south country, and dwelt between Kadash and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar. |
Genesis 20:2 | and Abraham saith concerning Sarah his wife, `She is my sister;` and Abimelech king of Gerar sendeth and taketh Sarah. | | And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, she is my sister: And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah. |
Genesis 20:3 | And God cometh in unto Abimelech in a dream of the night, and saith to him, `Lo, thou [art] a dead man, because of the woman whom thou hast taken and she married to a husband.` | | But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, on account of the woman whom thou hast taken: for she is a man's wife. |
Genesis 20:4 | And Abimelech hath not drawn near unto her, and he saith, `Lord, also a righteous nation dost thou slay? | | But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou also slay a righteous nation? |
Genesis 20:5 | hath not he himself said to me, She [is] my sister! and she, even she herself, said, He [is] my brother; in the integrity of my heart, and in the innocency of my hands, I have done this.` | | Said he not to me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart, and innocence of my hands have I done this. |
Genesis 20:6 | And God saith unto him in the dream, `Yea, I I have known that in the integrity of thy heart thou hast done this, and I withhold thee, even I, from sinning against Me, therefore I have not suffered thee to come against her; | | And God said to him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore I suffered thee not to touch her. |
Genesis 20:7 | and now send back the man`s wife, for he [is] inspired, and he doth pray for thee, and live thou; and if thou do not send back, know that dying thou dost die, thou, and all that thou hast.` | | Now therefore restore to the man his wife, for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou shalt not restore her, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou and all that are thine. |
Genesis 20:8 | And Abimelech riseth early in the morning, and calleth for all his servants, and speaketh all these words in their ears; and the men fear exceedingly; | | Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were greatly afraid. |
Genesis 20:9 | and Abimelech calleth for Abraham, and saith to him, `What hast thou done to us? and what have I sinned against thee, that thou hast brought upon me, and upon my kingdom, a great sin? works which are not done thou hast done with me.` | | Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said to him, What has thou done to us? and in what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds to me that ought not to be done. |
Genesis 20:10 | Abimelech also saith unto Abraham, `What hast thou seen that thou hast done this thing?` | | And Abimelech said to Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing? |
Genesis 20:11 | And Abraham saith, `Because I said, `Surely the fear of God is not in this place, and they have slain me for the sake of my wife; | | And Abraham said, Because I thought, surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake. |
Genesis 20:12 | and also, truly she is my sister, daughter of my father, only not daughter of my mother, and she becometh my wife; | | And yet indeed she is my sister: she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife. |
Genesis 20:13 | and it cometh to pass, when God hath caused me to wander from my father`s house, that I say to her, This [is] thy kindness which thou dost with me: at every place whither we come, say of me, He [is] my brother.` | | And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said to her, This is thy kindness which thou shalt show to me; At every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother. |
Genesis 20:14 | And Abimelech taketh sheep and oxen, and servants and handmaids, and giveth to Abraham, and sendeth back to him Sarah his wife; | | And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and men-servants, and women-servants, and gave them to Abraham, and restored to him Sarah his wife. |
Genesis 20:15 | and Abimelech saith, `Lo, my land [is] before thee, where it is good in thine eyes, dwell;` | | And Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee. |
Genesis 20:16 | and to Sarah he hath said, `Lo, I have given a thousand silverlings to thy brother; lo, it is to thee a covering of eyes, to all who are with thee;` and by all this she is reasoned with. | | And to Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver: behold, he is to thee a covering of the eyes, to all that are with thee, and with all other: thus she was reproved. |
Genesis 20:17 | And Abraham prayeth unto God, and God healeth Abimelech and his wife, and his handmaids, and they bear: | | So Abraham prayed to God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maid-servants, and they bore children. |
Genesis 20:18 | for Jehovah restraining had restrained every womb of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham`s wife. | | For the LORD had made barren all the females of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham's wife. |
