 The Young's Literal Translation Online Bible (YLT)The Weymouth New Testament Online Bible (WEY)The World English Online Bible (WLD)
2nd-Peter 2:1And there did come also false prophets among the people, as also among you there shall be false teachers, who shall bring in besides destructive sects, and the Master who bought them denying, bringing to themselves quick destruction,But there were also false prophets among the people, as there will be teachers of falsehood among you also, who will cunningly introduce fatal divisions, disowning even the Sovereign Lord who has redeemed them, and bringing on themselves swift destruction.But there also arose false prophets among the people, as among you also there will be false teachers, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, denying even the Master who bought them, bringing on themselves swift destruction.
2nd-Peter 2:2and many shall follow out their destructive ways, because of whom the way of the truth shall be evil spoken of,And in their immoral ways they will have many eager disciples, through whom religion will be brought into disrepute.Many will follow their destructive ways, and as a result, the way of the truth will be maligned.
2nd-Peter 2:3and in covetousness, with moulded words, of you they shall make merchandise, whose judgment of old is not idle, and their destruction doth not slumber.Thirsting for riches, they will trade on you with their canting talk. From of old their judgement has been working itself out, and their destruction has not been slumbering.In covetousness will they exploit you with deceptive words: whose sentence now from of old doesn't linger, and their destruction will not slumber.
2nd-Peter 2:4For if God messengers who sinned did not spare, but with chains of thick gloom, having cast [them] down to Tartarus, did deliver [them] to judgment, having been reserved,For God did not spare angels when they had sinned, but hurling them down to Tartarus consigned them to caves of darkness, keeping them in readiness for judgement.For if God didn't spare angels when they sinned, but cast them down to Tartarus, and committed them to pits of darkness, to be reserved to judgment;
2nd-Peter 2:5and the old world did not spare, but the eighth person, Noah, of righteousness a preacher, did keep, a flood on the world of the impious having brought,And He did not spare the ancient world, although He preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a deluge on the world of the ungodly.and didn't spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah with seven others, a preacher of righteousness, when he brought a flood on the world of the ungodly;
2nd-Peter 2:6and the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah having turned to ashes, with an overthrow did condemn, an example to those about to be impious having set [them];He reduced to ashes the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, and condemned them to overthrow, making them an example to people who might in future be living godless lives.and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, having made them an example to those who would live ungodly;
2nd-Peter 2:7and righteous Lot, worn down by the conduct in lasciviousness of the impious, He did rescue,But when righteous Lot was sore distressed by the gross misconduct of immoral men He rescued him.and delivered righteous Lot, very distressed by the lustful life of the wicked
2nd-Peter 2:8for in seeing and hearing, the righteous man, dwelling among them, day by day the righteous soul with unlawful works was harassing.(For their lawless deeds were torture, day after day, to the pure soul of that righteous man all that he saw and heard whilst living in their midst.)(for that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, tormented his righteous soul from day to day with lawless deeds):
2nd-Peter 2:9The Lord hath known to rescue pious ones out of temptation, and unrighteous ones to a day of judgment, being punished, to keep,Since all this is so, the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from temptation, and on the other hand how to keep the unrighteous under punishment in readiness for the Day of Judgement,the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment to the day of judgment;
2nd-Peter 2:10and chiefly those going behind the flesh in desire of uncleanness, and lordship despising; presumptuous, self-complacent, dignities they are not afraid to speak evil of,and especially those who are abandoned to sensuality craving, as they do, for polluted things, and scorning control. Fool-hardy and self-willed, they do not tremble when speaking evil of glorious beings;but chiefly those who walk after the flesh in the lust of defilement, and despise authority. Daring, self-willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries;
2nd-Peter 2:11whereas messengers, in strength and power being greater, do not bear against them before the Lord an evil speaking judgment;while angels, though greater than they in might and power, do not bring any insulting accusation against such in the presence of the Lord.whereas angels, though greater in might and power, don't bring a railing judgment against them before the Lord.
2nd-Peter 2:12and these, as irrational natural beasts, made to be caught and destroyed in what things they are ignorant of, speaking evil in their destruction shall be destroyed,But these men, like brute beasts, created (with their natural instincts) only to be captured or destroyed, are abusive in matters of which they are ignorant, and in their corruption will perish,But these, as creatures without reason, born mere animals to be taken and destroyed, speaking evil in matters about which they are ignorant, will in their destroying surely be destroyed,
2nd-Peter 2:13about to receive a reward of unrighteousness, pleasures counting the luxury in the day, spots and blemishes, luxuriating in their deceits, feasting with you,being doomed to receive a requital for their guilt. They reckon it pleasure to feast daintily in broad daylight. They are spots and blemishes, while feeding luxuriously at their love-feasts, and banqueting with you.receiving the wages of unrighteousness; people who count it pleasure to revel in the day-time, spots and blemishes, reveling in their deceit while they feast with you;
2nd-Peter 2:14having eyes full of adultery, and unable to cease from sin, enticing unstable souls, having an heart exercised in covetousnesses, children of a curse,Their very eyes are full of adultery being eyes which never cease from sin. These men set traps to catch unstedfast souls, their own hearts being well trained in greed. They are fore-doomed to God's curse!having eyes full of adultery, and who can't cease from sin; enticing unsettled souls; having a heart trained in greed; children of cursing;
2nd-Peter 2:15having forsaken a right way, they did go astray, having followed in the way of Balaam the [son] of Bosor, who a reward of unrighteousness did love,Forsaking the straight road, they have gone astray, having eagerly followed in the steps of Balaam, the son of Beor, who was bent on securing the wages of unrighteousness.forsaking the right way, they went astray, having followed the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of wrong-doing;
2nd-Peter 2:16and had a rebuke of his own iniquity a dumb ass, in man`s voice having spoken, did forbid the madness of the prophet.But he was rebuked for his transgression: a dumb ass spoke with a human voice and checked the madness of the Prophet.but he was rebuked for his own disobedience. A mute donkey spoke with man's voice and stopped the madness of the prophet.
2nd-Peter 2:17These are wells without water, and clouds by a tempest driven, to whom the thick gloom of the darkness to the age hath been kept;These people are wells without water, mists driven along by a storm, men for whom the dense darkness has been reserved.These are wells without water, clouds driven by a storm; for whom the blackness of darkness has been reserved forever.
2nd-Peter 2:18for overswellings of vanity speaking, they do entice in desires of the flesh lasciviousnesses, those who had truly escaped from those conducting themselves in error,For, while they pour out their frivolous and arrogant talk, they use earthly cravings every kind of immorality as a bait to entrap men who are just escaping from the influence of those who live in error.For, uttering great swelling words of emptiness, they entice in the lusts of the flesh, by licentiousness, those who are indeed escaping from those who live in error;
2nd-Peter 2:19liberty to them promising, themselves being servants of the corruption, for by whom any one hath been overcome, to this one also he hath been brought to servitude,And they promise them freedom, although they are themselves the slaves of what is corrupt. For a man is the slave of any one by whom he has been worsted in fight.promising them liberty, while they themselves are bondservants of corruption; for by whom a man is overcome, by the same is he also brought into bondage.
2nd-Peter 2:20for, if having escaped from the pollutions of the world, in the acknowledging of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and by these again being entangled, they have been overcome, become to them hath the last things worse than the first,For if, after escaping from the pollutions of the world through a full knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, people are once more entangled in these pollutions and are overcome, their last state has become worse than their first.For if, after they have escaped the defilement of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein and overcome, the last state has become worse with them than the first.
2nd-Peter 2:21for it were better to them not to have acknowledged the way of the righteousness, than having acknowledged [it], to turn back from the holy command delivered to them,For it would have been better for them not to have fully known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandments in which they were instructed.For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them.
2nd-Peter 2:22and happened to them hath that of the true similitude; `A dog did turn back upon his own vomit,` and, `A sow having bathed herself to rolling in mire.`Their case is that described in the true proverb, "A dog returns to what he has vomited," and also in the other proverb, "The sow has washed itself and now goes back to roll in its filth."But it has happened to them according to the true proverb, "The dog turns to his own vomit again," and "the sow that had washed to wallowing in the mire."
