| Genesis 16:1 | And Sarai, Abram`s wife, hath not borne to him, and she hath an handmaid, an Egyptian, and her name [is] Hagar; | Now Sarai, Abram's wife, bore him no children. She had a handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar. | Now Sarai, Abram's wife, had given him no children; and she had a servant, a woman of Egypt whose name was Hagar. |
| Genesis 16:2 | and Sarai saith unto Abram, `Lo, I pray thee, Jehovah hath restrained me from bearing, go in, I pray thee, unto my handmaid; perhaps I am built up from her;` and Abram hearkeneth to the voice of Sarai. | Sarai said to Abram," See now, Yahweh has restrained me from bearing. Please go in to my handmaid. It may be that I will obtain children by her." Abram listened to the voice of Sarai. | And Sarai said to Abram, See, the Lord has not let me have children; go in to my servant, for I may get a family through her. And Abram did as Sarai said. |
| Genesis 16:3 | And Sarai, Abram`s wife, taketh Hagar the Egyptian, her handmaid, at the end of the tenth year of Abram`s dwelling in the land of Canaan, and giveth her to Abram her husband, to him for a wife, | Sarai, Abram's wife, took Hagar the Egyptian, her handmaid, after Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to Abram her husband to be his wife. | So after Abram had been living for ten years in the land of Canaan, Sarai took Hagar, her Egyptian servant, and gave her to Abram for his wife. |
| Genesis 16:4 | and he goeth in unto Hagar, and she conceiveth, and she seeth that she hath conceived, and her mistress is lightly esteemed in her eyes. | He went in to Hagar, and she conceived. When she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes. | And he went in to Hagar and she became with child, and when she saw that she was with child, she no longer had any respect for her master's wife. |
| Genesis 16:5 | And Sarai saith unto Abram, `My violence [is] for thee; I I have given mine handmaid into thy bosom, and she seeth that she hath conceived, and I am lightly esteemed in her eyes; Jehovah doth judge between me and thee.` | Sarai said to Abram, "This wrong is your fault. I gave my handmaid into your bosom, and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes. Yahweh judge between me and you." | And Sarai said to Abram, May my wrong be on you: I gave you my servant for your wife and when she saw that she was with child, she no longer had any respect for me: may the Lord be judge between you and me. |
| Genesis 16:6 | And Abram saith unto Sarai, `Lo, thine handmaid [is] in thine hand, do to her that which is good in thine eyes;` and Sarai afflicted her, and she fleeth from her presence. | But Abram said to Sarai, "Behold, your maid is in your hand. Do to her whatever is good in your eyes." Sarai dealt harshly with her, and she fled from her face. | And Abram said, The woman is in your power; do with her whatever seems good to you. And Sarai was cruel to her, so that she went running away from her. |
| Genesis 16:7 | And a messenger of Jehovah findeth her by the fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way [to] Shur, | The angel of Yahweh found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur. | And an angel of the Lord came to her by a fountain of water in the waste land, by the fountain on the way to Shur. |
| Genesis 16:8 | and he saith, `Hagar, Sarai`s handmaid, whence hast thou come, and whither dost thou go?` and she saith, `From the presence of Sarai, my mistress, I am fleeing.` | He said, "Hagar, Sarai's handmaid, where did you come from? Where are you going?" She said, "I am fleeing from the face of my mistress Sarai." | And he said, Hagar, Sarai's servant, where have you come from and where are you going? And she said, I am running away from Sarai, my master's wife. |
| Genesis 16:9 | And the messenger of Jehovah saith to her, `Turn back unto thy mistress, and humble thyself under her hands;` | The angel of Yahweh said to her, "Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hands." | And the angel said to her, Go back, and put yourself under her authority. |
| Genesis 16:10 | and the messenger of Jehovah saith to her, `Multiplying I multiply thy seed, and it is not numbered from multitude;` | The angel of Yahweh said to her, "I will greatly multiply your seed, that they will not be numbered for multitude." | And the angel of the Lord said, Your seed will be greatly increased so that it may not be numbered. |
| Genesis 16:11 | and the messenger of Jehovah saith to her, `Behold thou [art] conceiving, and bearing a son, and hast called his name Ishmael, for Jehovah hath hearkened unto thine affliction; | The angel of Yahweh said to her, "Behold, you are with child, and will bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, because Yahweh has heard your affliction. | And the angel of the Lord said, See, you are with child and will give birth to a son, to whom you will give the name Ishmael, because the ears of the Lord were open to your sorrow. |
| Genesis 16:12 | and he is a wild-ass man, his hand against every one, and every one`s hand against him and before the face of all his brethren he dwelleth.` | He will be like a wild donkey among men. His hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him. He will live opposite all of his brothers." | And he will be like a mountain ass among men; his hand will be against every man and every man's hand against him, and he will keep his place against all his brothers. |
| Genesis 16:13 | And she calleth the name of Jehovah who is speaking unto her, `Thou [art], O God, my beholder;` for she said, `Even here have I looked behind my beholder?` | She called the name of Yahweh who spoke to her, "You are a God who sees," for she said, "Have I even stayed alive after seeing him?" | And to the Lord who was talking with her she gave this name, You are a God who is seen; for she said, Have I not even here in the waste land had a vision of God and am still living? |
| Genesis 16:14 | therefore hath one called the well, `The well of the Living One, my beholder;` lo, between Kadesh and Bered. | Therefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi. Behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered. | So that fountain was named, Fountain of Life and Vision: it is between Kadesh and Bered. |
| Genesis 16:15 | And Hagar beareth to Abram a son; and Abram calleth the name of his son, whom Hagar hath borne, Ishmael; | Hagar bore a son for Abram. Abram called the name of his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael. | And Hagar gave birth to a child, the son of Abram, to whom Abram gave the name of Ishmael. |
| Genesis 16:16 | and Abram [is] a son of eighty and six years in Hagar`s bearing Ishmael to Abram. | Abram was eighty-six years old, when Hagar bore Ishmael to Abram. | Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar gave birth to Ishmael. |
