Acts 16:1And he came to Derbe and Lystra, and lo, a certain disciple was there, by name Timotheus son of a certain woman, a believing Jewess, but of a father, a Greek,He came to Derbe and Lystra: and behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewess who believed; but his father was a Greek.And he came to Derbe and Lystra. And behold, there was a certain disciple there named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman that believed; but his father was a Gentile.
Acts 16:2who was well testified to by the brethren in Lystra and Iconium;The brothers who were at Lystra and Iconium gave a good testimony about him.To this man the brethren that were in Lystra and Iconium, gave a good testimony.
Acts 16:3this one did Paul wish to go forth with him, and having taken [him], he circumcised him, because of the Jews who are in those places, for they all knew his father that he was a Greek.Paul wanted to have him go forth with him, and he took and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those parts; for they all knew that his father was a Greek.Him Paul would have to go along with him: and taking him he circumcised him, because of the Jews who were in those places. For they all knew that his father was a Gentile.
Acts 16:4And as they were going on through the cities, they were delivering to them the decrees to keep, that have been judged by the apostles and the elders who [are] in Jerusalem,As they went on their way through the cities, they delivered the decrees to them to keep which had been ordained by the apostles and elders who were at Jerusalem.And as they passed through the cities, they delivered unto them the decrees for to keep, that were decreed by the apostles and ancients who were at Jerusalem.
Acts 16:5then, indeed, were the assemblies established in the faith, and were abounding in number every day;So the assemblies were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily.And the churches were confirmed in faith, and increased in number daily.
Acts 16:6and having gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia,When they had gone through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia.And when they had passed through Phrygia, and the country of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia.
Acts 16:7having gone toward Mysia, they were trying to go on toward Bithynia, and the Spirit did not suffer them,When they had come opposite Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit didn't allow them.And when they were come into Mysia, they attempted to go into Bythynia, and the Spirit of Jesus suffered them not.
Acts 16:8and having passed by Mysia, they came down to Troas.Passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas.And when they had passed through Mysia, they went down to Troas.
Acts 16:9And a vision through the night appeared to Paul a certain man of Macedonia was standing, calling upon him, and saying, `Having passed through to Macedonia, help us;`A vision appeared to Paul in the night. There was a man of Macedonia standing, begging him, and saying, "Come over into Macedonia and help us."And a vision was shewed to Paul in the night, which was a man of Macedonia standing and beseeching him, and saying: Pass over into Macedonia, and help us.
Acts 16:10and when he saw the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go forth to Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord hath called us to preach good news to them,When he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go forth into Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to them.And as soon as he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go into Macedonia, being assured that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.
Acts 16:11having set sail, therefore, from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, on the morrow also to Neapolis,Setting sail therefore from Troas, we made a straight course to Samothrace, and the day following to Neapolis;And sailing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the day following to Neapolis;
Acts 16:12thence also to Philippi, which is a principal city of the part of Macedonia a colony. And we were in this city abiding certain days,and from there to Philippi, which is a city of Macedonia, the first of the district, a Roman colony. We were staying some days in this city.And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of part of Macedonia, a colony. And we were in this city some days conferring together.
Acts 16:13on the sabbath-day also we went forth outside of the city, by a river, where there used to be prayer, and having sat down, we were speaking to the women who came together,On the Sabbath day we went forth outside of the city by a riverside, where we supposed there was a place of prayer, and we sat down, and spoke to the women who had come together.And upon the sabbath day, we went forth without the gate by a river side, where it seemed that there was prayer; and sitting down, we spoke to the women that were assembled.
Acts 16:14and a certain woman, by name Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, worshipping God, was hearing, whose heart the Lord did open to attend to the things spoken by Paul;A certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, one who worshipped God, heard us; whose heart the Lord opened to listen to the things which were spoken by Paul.And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, one that worshipped God, did hear: whose heart the Lord opened to attend to those things which were said by Paul.
Acts 16:15and when she was baptized, and her household, she did call upon us, saying, `If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, having entered into my house, remain;` and she constrained us.When she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying, "If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and stay." She urged us.And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying: If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.
Acts 16:16And it came to pass in our going on to prayer, a certain maid, having a spirit of Python, did meet us, who brought much employment to her masters by soothsaying,It happened, as we were going to prayer, that a certain girl having a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much gain by fortune telling.And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain girl, having a pythonical spirit, met us, who brought to her masters much gain by divining.
Acts 16:17she having followed Paul and us, was crying, saying, `These men are servants of the Most High God, who declare to us a way of salvation;`The same, following after Paul and us, cried out, "These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation!"This same following Paul and us, cried out, saying: These men are the servants of the most high God, who preach unto you the way of salvation.
Acts 16:18and this she was doing for many days, but Paul having been grieved, and having turned, said to the spirit, `I command thee, in the name of Jesus Christ, to come forth from her;` and it came forth the same hour.This she did for many days. But Paul, becoming distressed, turned and said to the spirit, "I charge you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!" It came out that very hour.And this she did many days. But Paul being grieved, turned, and said to the spirit: I command thee, in the name of Jesus Christ, to go out from her. And he went out the same hour.
Acts 16:19And her masters having seen that the hope of their employment was gone, having caught Paul and Silas, drew [them] to the market-place, unto the rulers,But when her masters saw that the hope of their gain was gone, they laid hold on Paul and Silas, and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers.But her masters, seeing that the hope of their gain was gone, apprehending Paul and Silas, brought them into the marketplace to the rulers.
Acts 16:20and having brought them to the magistrates, they said, `These men do exceedingly trouble our city, being Jews;When they had brought them to the magistrates, they said, "These men, being Jews, are agitating our city,And presenting them to the magistrates, they said: These men disturb our city, being Jews;
Acts 16:21and they proclaim customs that are not lawful for us to receive nor to do, being Romans.`and set forth customs which it is not lawful for us to accept or to observe, being Romans."And preach a fashion which it is not lawful for us to receive nor observe, being Romans.
Acts 16:22And the multitude rose up together against them, and the magistrates having torn their garments from them, were commanding to beat [them] with rods,The multitude rose up together against them, and the magistrates tore their clothes off of them, and commanded them to be beaten with rods.And the people ran together against them; and the magistrates rending off their clothes, commanded them to be beaten with rods.
Acts 16:23many blows also having laid upon them, they cast them to prison, having given charge to the jailor to keep them safely,When they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, charging the jailer to keep them safely,And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the gaoler to keep them diligently.
Acts 16:24who such a charge having received, did put them to the inner prison, and their feet made fast in the stocks.who, having received such a charge, threw them into the inner prison, and secured their feet in the stocks.Who having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.
Acts 16:25And at midnight Paul and Silas praying, were singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were hearing them,But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.And at midnight, Paul and Silas praying, praised God. And they that were in prison, heard them.
Acts 16:26and suddenly a great earthquake came, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken, opened also presently were all the doors, and of all the bands were loosed;Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone's bonds were loosened.And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and the bands of all were loosed.
Acts 16:27and the jailor having come out of sleep, and having seen the doors of the prison open, having drawn a sword, was about to kill himself, supposing the prisoners to be fled,The jailer, being roused out of sleep and seeing the prison doors open, drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped.And the keeper of the prison, awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the doors of the prison open, drawing his sword, would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.
Acts 16:28and Paul cried out with a loud voice, saying, `Thou mayest not do thyself any harm, for we are all here.`But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, "Don't harm yourself, for we are all here!"But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying: Do thyself no harm, for we all are here.
Acts 16:29And, having asked for a light, he sprang in, and trembling he fell down before Paul and Silas,He called for lights and sprang in, and, fell down trembling before Paul and Silas,Then calling for a light, he went in, and trembling, fell down at the feet of Paul and Silas.
Acts 16:30and having brought them forth, said, `Sirs, what must I do that I may be saved?`and brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"And bringing them out, he said: Masters, what must I do, that I may be saved?
Acts 16:31and they said, `Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved thou and thy house;`They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your house."But they said: Believe in the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Acts 16:32and they spake to him the word of the Lord, and to all those in his household;They spoke the word of the Lord to him, and to all who were in his house.And they preached the word of the Lord to him and to all that were in his house.
Acts 16:33and having taken them, in that hour of the night, he did bathe [them] from the blows, and was baptized, himself and all his presently,He took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes, and was immediately baptized, he and all his household.And he, taking them the same hour of the night, washed their stripes, and himself was baptized, and all his house immediately.
Acts 16:34having brought them also into his house, he set food before [them], and was glad with all the household, he having believed in God.He brought them up into his house, and set food before them, and rejoiced greatly, with all his house, having believed in God.And when he had brought them into his own house, he laid the table for them, and rejoiced with all his house, believing God.
Acts 16:35And day having come, the magistrates sent the rod-bearers, saying, `Let those men go;`But when it was day, the magistrates sent the sergeants, saying, "Let those men go."And when the day was come, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.
Acts 16:36and the jailor told these words unto Paul `The magistrates have sent, that ye may be let go; now, therefore, having gone forth go on in peace;`The jailer reported these words to Paul, saying, "The magistrates have sent to let you go; now therefore come out, and go in peace."And the keeper of the prison told these words to Paul: The magistrates have sent to let you go; now therefore depart, and go in peace.
Acts 16:37and Paul said to them, `Having beaten us publicly uncondemned men, Romans being they did cast [us] to prison, and now privately do they cast us forth! why no! but having come themselves, let them bring us forth.`But Paul said to them, "They have beaten us publicly, without a trial, men who are Romans, and have cast us into prison! Do they now release us secretly? No, most assuredly, but let them come themselves and bring us out!"But Paul said to them: They have beaten us publicly, uncondemned, men that are Romans, and have cast us into prison: and now do they thrust us out privately? Not so; but let them come,
Acts 16:38And the rod-bearers told to the magistrates these sayings, and they were afraid, having heard that they are Romans,The sergeants reported these words to the magistrates, and they were afraid when they heard that they were Romans,And let us out themselves. And the serjeants told these words to the magistrates. And they were afraid, hearing that they were Romans.
Acts 16:39and having come, they besought them, and having brought [them] forth, they were asking [them] to go forth from the city;and they came and begged them. When they had brought them out, they asked them to depart from the city.And coming, they besought them; and bringing them out, they desired them to depart out of the city.
Acts 16:40and they, having gone forth out of the prison, entered into [the house of] Lydia, and having seen the brethren, they comforted them, and went forth.They went out of the prison, and entered into Lydia's house. When they had seen the brothers, they comforted them, and departed.And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia; and having seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.
